Chapter 550: War in the North
Chapter 550: War in the North
Lin Xuan Qi left the Sima Family mansion and headed for his inn.
He wanted to check if Old Feng the inn keeper had something new for him.
"Master Lin, long time no see." Old Feng was surprised to see him as he walked into the dining area of the inn.
There were lots of patrons seated and enjoying their food.
Winter was over so the inn didn’t need to provide food to the factories anymore and business had started to resume.
Lin Xuan Qi sat down at an empty table in the corner and he gestured for Old Feng to sit with him.
Old Feng did so and poured a cup of tea for him.
"Do you want anything to eat, Master Lin?"
Lin Xuan Qi shook his head and said, "No need for that. I just want to check if things are going well in the city."
He glanced at the dining area where the patrons were busy chitchatting.
Old Feng got his hint, leaned forward and whispered, "There are only two things that are noteworthy so far.
"One, the war in the north isn’t going too well against the Da Mang Dynasty.
"And also, the Qing Feng Sect is having many different events all over the Da Qian Dynasty for its sixty thousand years anniversary."
Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head at what Old Feng had said.
The war situation in the north might drag on or turn south at any moment. He wasn’t sure if Qian Shi or the emperor had any plans for it but he would need to be aware of it.
Food prices and labor might be affected if the emperor mobilized the peasants to fight in the war.
As for the Qing Feng Sect, he already knew about it but not what they wanted to do here in Hong Feng City.
He had a sip of the tea before he asked. "What are they planning here?"
Old Feng shook his head and said, "I’m not too sure. They only help in keeping the law and order so far and they are doing a very good job with it."
Lin Xuan Qi glanced out of the inn and the streets were calm and orderly; everyone was going on with their daily chores and they smiled when they saw the Qing Feng Sect disciples walking by.
It was surreal to him after what he had experienced in Spirit Valley.
Maybe they were planning something similar?
But so far, there wasn’t any news or discovery about a secret realm near Hong Feng City.
He could only think of the mountains but from what he knew, there were only Spirit Herbs up in the mountains.
Lin Xuan Qi sighed and thought that he might need to go sneaking around himself during the night to try and figure things out.
His cultivation level wasn’t the highest in Hong Feng City but it was already above that of the majority of the other cultivators, so it might be safe enough for him to do so.
And with the number of properties he had at the moment in the city, he could run to one of them to seek safety if anything bad happened to him.
"Thanks, Old Feng. Keep an eye on things and send me a message if you have anything new and important." Lin Xuan Qi put down his tea cup and stood up from the seat.
Old Feng cupped his hands at him and said, "Yes, Master Lin. Let me walk you to the entrance."
They walked to the entrance of the inn and Lin Xuan Qi left immediately.
...
When he returned to the mansion, Xue Cong and the others were in Yue Jie’s room, and he went over to look for them.
"Xuan Qi, which dress looks better on me?" Yue Xin had to stop herself from jumping around excitedly while she held two dresses by her sides to compare them.
One of the dresses was dark blue while the other was yellow.
Lin Xuan Qi’s eyebrows pulled together.
From where he came from, these types of questions required long deliberation if you wanted to have a good life ahead.
But thankfully, he was in the Da Qian Dynasty and he pointed to the dress that was yellow in color.
The color yellow fitted more with the bright and hopeful spring.
"Then, I will wear this on the outing." Yue Xin said happily and she put the blue dress aside to look at the yellow dress much more carefully.
And the more she looked, the more she liked it.
Yue Jie had gotten them new sets of clothes for spring and they were choosing which ones to wear for the spring outing.
He was glad to see them being happy and enthusiastic about it.
Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea from Liu Shi Shi after all. He thought and glanced over at Liu Shi Shi.
Liu Shi Shi, who was trying to see if the bright red dress she had in her hands fitted her, had her long and slender legs out.
She quickly hid them behind her dress and gave him a frown when she felt his gaze.
Lin Xuan Qi shook his head at her and gave her a smirk.
It’s not like I’ve never seen them before. He thought and glanced over at Xue Cong and Yue Jie.
Xue Cong had a white dress that had simple patterns stitched around the collar and sleeves of it.
It reminded him of how she looked when he first met her.
She had an aura around her now ever since she had been the Head Mistress of the Clan, but being demure and having that youthful look was how he would remember her to be.
But even so, he also liked her as she was right now.
The sense of seeing how she had changed and taken on more than she had ever imagined for him was something he appreciated.
Xue Cong saw his gaze and she pretended not to see it.
She tried to be as calm as she could but her reddened cheeks betrayed her.
Even though they were husband and wife, she still felt shy when he looked at her in such a manner.
