Gu Yeze’s eyes widened in horror and he hurriedly pulled out the mask that Wen Xiao had brought together with the pill and wore it. He ruffled his short hairs, which were usually styled backwards slantingly, allowing them to fall on and cover his forehead.
He looked at his wife who was still fast asleep and he just prayed that she would remain asleep atleast until they reached home. And then he could just remain away from her sight after he assured she is safe.
But it seemed as if God did not accept his prayers, as a few minutes later, a large truck passed by them honking loudly enough to wake Ning Mei up.
Ning Mei woke up groggily as she rubber her eyes. She squinted her eyes and looked forward on the road.
Ning Mei then turned towards Gu Yeze saying, " Hubby, you... Ahhh! Who are...!?! " She was suddenly taken aback by the person in the driver seat, whose face was completely covered with mask and hairs.
The next second, Gu Yeze turned to her hurriedly and clearified without wasting a moment, " It’s me. "
Ning Mei was so taken aback that she instinctively was about to punch the man. It was good, that Gu Yeze cleared before her fist could land on his face.
Ning Mei sat back comfortably on her seat, as she yawned, " Ohh, it’s you. " And now she looked at Gu Yeze more properly and asked, " But why are you wearing that mask? And what is wrong with your hairs? Why are they do messed up...? I cannot see your handsome face. "
Gu Yeze slightly froze as he heard her asking before he cleared his voice and said, " Uh? Oh it’s nothing. That.. this air in the road was irritating my nose, so I wore a mask. " Gu Yeze tried to sound more logical.
Ning Mei furrowed her eyebrows and narrowed her eyes in suspicion. She stared at Gu Yeze for a few seconds and asked again, " And what is it with the hairs? "
Gu Yeze continued looking straight ahead without even glancing at her once. He tried to think of an explanation but could not think of any logical reasoning right now. He just couldn’t say that, he suddenly felt like changing his hairstyle out of the blue, could he? Still Gu Yeze opened his mouth, in hopes of getting some words of excuse out of it, "That... " But he could say nothing.
Ning Mei stared at him for another few seconds, before saying, " Remove your mask, Hubby. "
Gu Yeze subtly stiffened on hearing her command. Remove the mask?
Ning Mei did not forget to take note how Gu Yeze’s hands that were holding on the steering, were slightly shivering. Also, she saw some light red patches near on his hands and also his eyes.
She knew it was not a simple case at all. This husband of her ese hiding something. Seeing him making no effort on removing the maskz Ning Mei consoled him again, " Hubby, listen to me. Remove it and let me see you face once. I think you are not well. "
Gu Yeze shook his head and said in a slight stiff voice, " I am fine, Ning Mei. Why are you being so stubborn? "
And now it really pissed Ning Mei, as her patience snapped. She sat straight and ordered, " Stop the car! "
Gu Yeze frowned and asked, " Why? We are in the middle of the road ! "
Ning Mei’s jaws tickled and she repeated again, " Yeze, I told you to stop the car, this instant! Or.. or if you don’t listen to me, I will jump out of this moving car, I say! "
Gu Yeze hurriedly stopped the car by the side of the road and looked at his wife with frustration, and asked, " What was that! Does anyone ask to stop the car like that?! "
Ning Mei did not answer him and leaned forward removing his mask from his face. Gu Yeze’s eyes widened and he did not really expect her to do it, as he was angry.
And as soon as, Ning Mei removed the mask, the own eyes widened in horror too. Gu Yeze’s face was swollen and red with rashes. His hairs covered his forehead, but the area near his eyes, nose and ears were all bloody red. And honestly, it wasn’t a good sight to look at all.
Gu Yeze sat there almost frozen as he looked at the changing expressions on his wife’s face the more she looked at him. And it broke his heart. For some reasons, his heart felt heavy and he swallowed a lump in the throat. Taking a breath, he raised his palms and rubbed his own face in frustration. The thing he wanted to avoid most has happened.
But the next moment, his own hands were slapped away from his face. And Gu Yeze looked at Ning Mei with confusion.
Ning Mei frowned as she looked at his face, then his hands and back to his face, and she said, " You must not touch your face with your hands right now. "
Gu Yeze chuckled a little sarcastically, and in a self mocking manner.
He knew, she must have been disgusted by the mere sight of his face. And he could understand her point of view. She had initially started liking him only for his face. And even now, she did not know much about him other than knowing his face properly.
It may seem as her being shallow. But he was happy and content with it, as long as she loved him, be it any reasons.
And now he felt fear creeping into him, thinking that she night start hating him. And he said, " What? You don’t have to worry. I am touching my own hideous and unseemly face. "
Ning Mei frowned very hard and she asked, " What are you talking about? "
Gu Yeze took a deep breath and said, " Mei, please listen to me. This is just an side effect reaction, of an anti- allergic pill. Please give me some time, alright. This gruesome sight will go away by tomorrow. Please don’t freak out. "
