She hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly. She had just happened to run into Ethan Young, saving her the trouble of dealing with Simon Hilton.
Although she was well aware that since Basil Xavier had told her to come find him at Meridia Base, he would have certainly informed the people here, and she would have been able to get in regardless.
But seeing a familiar face now was naturally even better.
Ethan Young now saw Stella Sterling clearly, and his eyes lit up with surprise. He didn’t have time to be shocked, hurriedly saying to her, "Miss Sterling, it’s so good to see you! Quick, come with me!"
Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow. ’It looks like Ethan Young knows, too. Could Basil Xavier’s business involve the entire Meridia Base?’
Seeing his expression, Stella Sterling didn’t ask any more questions and followed behind him. "I need you to arrange for my two friends, and also this thing of mine. I need you all to help watch over it!"
This was the only plane she had right now, so it was quite precious.
"Look at me, I was in such a hurry I forgot. No problem!"
Ethan Young nodded, then gave a few orders to the subordinate beside him and quickly led Stella Sterling deeper into Meridia Base.
As they walked, Ethan Young said, "Basil Xavier sent for you, right? He said you had already left Caelian Base and he didn’t know where you’d gone. It’s great that you’re back now. Chief Ford can be saved!"
’Chief Ford... Gordon Ford’s father?’
Stella Sterling looked at Ethan Young. "What’s wrong with Chief Ford? Is he injured?"
"It’s a bit complicated. I don’t really know how to explain it all at once. Just come with me and see the situation for yourself. Miss Sterling, your medical skills are brilliant. You might have a solution."
Ethan Young’s tone was anxious, and since he’d said that, Stella Sterling didn’t feel it was right to press further.
’But she was still a little confused. If Gordon Ford’s father was in trouble, why wasn’t it Gordon who came to find her? Why was it Basil Xavier?’
’Logically, she was on better terms with Gordon than with Basil Xavier.’
’And where was Basil Xavier, anyway?’
But this wasn’t the time to ask about these things. She followed silently behind Ethan Young.
She had assumed he was taking her to Meridia Base’s medical center, but to her surprise, Ethan Young led her to the private residence of Gordon Ford’s father.
When Stella Sterling arrived, she found the outside was heavily guarded. Every person held a gun, their expressions vigilant as they scanned the surroundings.
Their base leader was in trouble, and now their tense demeanor made Stella Sterling realize the gravity of the situation.
Ethan Young went forward to confer with the men for a moment, after which they were let inside.
After seeing the scene inside the room, Stella Sterling’s pupils contracted. She was stunned.
The leader of Meridia Base was tied to an iron bed, his body bound with iron chains, unable to move.
And he was currently unconscious.
Beside him, Mr. Magnus was observing Chief Ford.
Seeing this, Stella Sterling was shocked. ’What in the world happened here?’
If Chief Ford was merely injured, there would be no reason to tie him up like this.
The way they had him now, it was as if they were preventing Chief Ford from suddenly hurting someone.
It seemed the situation was even more serious than she had imagined.
Hearing the commotion, Mr. Magnus’s displeased voice called out, "Didn’t I say no one was to disturb me unless that Ford kid is back? No one else is allowed in!"
Ethan Young stepped forward and said, "Mr. Magnus, I’ve brought Miss Sterling back. You’ve witnessed her medical skills before. Maybe she has a way!"
Hearing this, Mr. Magnus, who hadn’t looked up until now, finally reacted. He turned his head and saw Stella Sterling.
He walked over excitedly and grabbed Stella Sterling’s hand. "Sterling, you’re here! Quick, quick, come and see what on earth is going on with the Chief!"
Curious about what was happening, Stella Sterling quickly dashed to Chief Ford’s side. Mr. Magnus froze for a second, then hurried over as well.
Just as Stella arrived, Chief Ford’s eyes snapped open, revealing a pair of scarlet irises. His face twisted into a ferocious expression, and he began to struggle and roar wildly.
Stella Sterling stared in shock at the man before her. ’This condition... why does it look so much like...’

Just as Stella Sterling was reeling from shock, Mr. Magnus took a syringe and injected its contents into Chief Ford.

Mr. Magnus gave a bitter smile from the side. "Sterling, you see? This is the Chief’s condition right now. We have no idea what’s happened to him!"
Stella Sterling suppressed her shock and asked the two men beside her, "When did this condition start? Can you tell me the specifics?"
"Ethan Young, you tell her. Be detailed," Mr. Magnus said, waving his hand at Ethan Young. "Since we’re asking for her help, there’s no reason to hide anything. Besides, the more she understands the situation, the more useful she’ll be in treating him."
Ethan Young nodded, and holding nothing back, began to recount the course of events to Stella Sterling.
It turned out that half a month ago, Chief Ford had been out on business when he came across a woman trying to kill a child.
Elder Ford stopped her, intending to take the child into Meridia Base and cultivate him as a future prospect.
But who would have thought that as soon as Chief Ford got close, the child suddenly went berserk and bit him.
Because it was a child, he wasn’t on guard. The kid actually managed to bite Chief Ford’s arm. The people with him didn’t react in time, and although they shot the child dead immediately after, Chief Ford was already injured.
At first, they thought it was just a minor injury that would be fine after cleaning the wound, but they never expected the problem would stem from this.
Not long after he returned that same day, Chief Ford developed a fever. He grew agitated, and slowly devolved into the state Stella Sterling was now witnessing. On top of that, the bite wound on his arm has never healed.
Ethan Young himself seemed shaken as he recounted this part.
Mr. Magnus added in astonishment, "In all my years, this is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this. There’s a new type of virus rampaging through the Chief’s body. How could a single bite cause something like this? The Chief is completely delirious now, so we had no choice but to tie him up here to prevent him from hurting anyone. And that... that was his last order before he lost his consciousness!"
