’Basil Xavier?’
Stella Sterling was a little surprised to hear his name.
’Why would Basil Xavier be looking for me? And why didn’t Gordon Ford come instead?’
’He looked anxious, too. Could something have happened?’
She tapped her fingers, her expression unreadable. "Tell me everything. What exactly did he say to you?"
"Mr. Xavier came looking for you about 10 days ago. We let him in since he’s a friend of yours. He was desperate to see you, so I told him you were away and hadn’t returned. I asked if there was a problem, but he wouldn’t say. He just asked us to tell you to look for him when you got back, if you have the time. Or, we could just notify him that you’ve returned, and he would come to you."
Stella Sterling frowned. That was as good as saying nothing. ’I still have no idea what’s going on,’ she thought.
’But considering Basil Xavier’s abilities and the power he has backing him, what could possibly have happened to make even *him* anxious?’
’After all, he has both Crescentia Base and Meridia Base behind him. In this apocalypse, besides a natural disaster, very few things could be daunting enough to worry them.’
She mulled it over for a moment before saying to Stephen Lawrence, "I understand. You can go now."
Stephen Lawrence nodded, but hesitated before speaking again. "So, Miss, what should we do? Should we ignore it, or should I have someone let him know you’re back?"
’This man is the boss’s friend,’ he thought. ’And I can tell there’s something special between the boss and that Gordon Ford guy.’
’Basil Xavier and Gordon Ford are good friends, too, which is why I’m so concerned about this whole thing.’
’Still, I can never quite figure out what the boss is thinking.’
’As for the boss going to find Basil Xavier herself, the thought hadn’t even crossed my mind.’
’After all, it’s obvious he’s the one who needs a favor. It makes no sense for the boss to go to him.’
Stella Sterling resumed eating the meal she hadn’t finished. "Have someone tell him I’m back."
’I don’t know what Basil Xavier wants to talk to me about,’ she mused. ’But according to Stephen, he came looking for me 10 days ago. It’s been 10 days. If he were truly in a hurry, he would have come back at some point during that time.’
’But he didn’t. So the matter probably isn’t that urgent. He might have even solved it himself after he left.’
’Besides, even if it is urgent, it’s already been 10 days. Waiting a little longer won’t make a difference.’
’And right now, I need to get some rest.’
Stephen Lawrence wasn’t surprised in the least. He nodded and backed out of the room. "Alright, Miss, I’ll go make the arrangements. I won’t disturb you any further. I’ll go organize tonight’s gathering now!"
Stella waved him away and went back to her meal.
This time, however, her mood wasn’t as pleasant as before. She felt a growing sense of unease.
Her mind kept returning to Basil Xavier, wondering what he could possibly want from her.
A moment later, she stood up and headed for the door, deciding she should go and check things out after all.
’I’ve known Basil Xavier for several years, after all. He’s one of the few friends I have in this apocalypse.’
’If something really has happened to him, I should go check on him. Besides, for him to come looking for me... he must have run out of options.’
Just as she stepped out of her room, Stella saw Stephen Lawrence showing Zane Xavier and Andrew Shaw around Caeluna Base.
"Miss, where are you headed?"
Stephen Lawrence asked, confused by her hurried demeanor.
Without turning her head, Stella Sterling replied, "To find Basil Xavier. Did he say where I could find him?"
Stephen Lawrence was a little surprised, wondering why his boss had suddenly changed her mind. But he was tactful enough not to ask questions and answered directly, "Meridia Base. He said if you wanted to find him after you got back, you should go straight to Meridia Base."
Stella Sterling nodded and started to walk away. After a few steps, she stopped and turned to Zane Xavier. "You’re with me."
Zane Xavier nodded and fell in step behind Stella Sterling without a word.
Andrew wanted to come along, so he followed them too. Stella Sterling didn’t stop him.
Once outside Caeluna Base, Stella Sterling produced the airplane Zane Xavier had flown last time from her spatial inventory.
Seeing the aircraft materialize before them, Zane Xavier excitedly rushed forward and caressed its fuselage. "Old buddy, it’s so good to see you again!"
’Miss Sterling had said her people took the plane away, but now I see she just stored it herself.’
A flash of delight also crossed Andrew Shaw’s eyes when he saw the aircraft, but he gave Zane Xavier a confused look, not understanding his excitement.
’And he’s not the least bit surprised to see this woman pull something so huge out of thin air. It looks like he’s known her secret for a while.’
Andrew felt a pang of disappointment. He’d thought he was special to her, that she trusted him completely. He thought that was why she so casually revealed her secrets and abilities in front of him.
’But now I see I was just overthinking things.’
’It’s not like she only does this in front of me.’
’She doesn’t seem to be worried at all about other people knowing her secret.’
"Let’s go. Head for this location."
Stella gave him the coordinates, and the group boarded the aircraft, flying toward Meridia Base.
Meridia Base was not far from Mirefall, so it didn’t take long for them to arrive by plane. They found a spot to land near the base entrance.
While still in the air, Zane Xavier and Andrew Shaw saw the vast and magnificent Meridia Base nestled deep in the mountains.
Their eyes widened in profound shock.
The base below was spectacular, even more breathtaking than Caeluna Base or Sanctyr Base.
It was truly worthy of its title as the number one base.
Zane Xavier had heard of Meridia Base before; after all, Miles Sanctus had once attended The Apocalypse Summit here.
He grew excited at the thought that he was about to enter this very base.
Such a large aircraft landing naturally attracted the immediate attention of the people at Meridia Base.
The moment they disembarked, they were instantly surrounded.
"Who are you? This is Meridia Base territory. Leave at once!"
"Captain Young, it’s Stella Sterling. Long time no see!"
Stella Sterling looked at Ethan Young, a hint of a smile on her face.
