Chapter 455 - 466: We’ll Meet Again
Chapter 455: Chapter 466: We’ll Meet Again
In his heart, River Larkin had little respect for Miles Sanctus.
He only saw him as a temporary leader.
But Miles was stronger than him right now, so he had no choice but to submit.
If he ever got the chance, he wouldn’t mind grinding him under his heel.
Of course, if that chance never came, he was pragmatic enough to live his life depending on him.
That had always been his attitude toward Miles Sanctus. But after what happened today, he now hated the man.
But since Miles was stronger, he had no choice but to swallow his hatred for now.
Selene Larkin was different. She and Miles were sworn siblings, and they shared a life-and-death bond.
Selene had great respect for him, her sworn big brother.
In the past, River had casually mentioned some of Miles’s flaws to her, but she always chided him for it.
’Even though Selene loves me dearly now, if she knew what I was really thinking, she would never let me off the hook.’ he thought.
’She might not kill me, but she would definitely hold it against me.’
’So I can’t say any of this to Selene.’
When Selene Larkin saw River Larkin agree with her, she smiled with satisfaction.
A stark contrast to her previous gloom, Selene seemed to have regained her usual confidence.
She exuded an air of ease.
’Now that I’ve figured it out, I won’t dwell on it anymore,’ she thought. ’Besides, that Stella Sterling will just end up being used by our leader anyway.’
’She’s a pitiful person, when you think about it!’
’Too bad I don’t feel a shred of sympathy for her. The more arrogant she is now, the more tragic her end will be!’
Walking ahead of them, Stella Sterling wore a peculiar expression.
They were speaking very quietly, but her hearing was exceptionally sharp, and she had caught every word.
She heard every last syllable of their analysis and discussion.
She looked up at the sky. ’Do I really look like some love-struck fool?’
’As if I could be won over just because a man tricks me a little?’
’Ridiculous. Forget about whether I’d fall for a man over such a trivial benefit.’
’Even if I, Stella Sterling, were to fall for someone, I would never let love go to my head, abandon the power in my hands for a man, and recklessly entrust everything to him.’
’I’ve always understood one principle: what you hold in your own hands is what’s truly yours.’
’That’s true even for the people closest to me.’
’So those two are really overthinking things. If they want to see me in a pathetic state, they’ll have to wait for the next life.’
’They probably won’t live to see it!’
’And as for that River Larkin... if I didn’t need to keep up appearances and maintain a delicate balance with Sanctyr Base for now...’
’...he’d already be dead!’
’And he still has the nerve to be scheming about me?’
’But no matter. I’m just letting him live a little longer. It won’t be for much longer!’
With that thought, she clasped her hands behind her head and strode away. They had now reached the exit of Sanctyr Base.
They were standing on the edge of a cliff.
When Stella Sterling was captured and brought here, she had been conscious. This was not the path they had taken.
’Looks like they’ve changed the route,’ she mused.
Without special transportation, an ordinary person could never get up here.
"Sanctyr Base has unique terrain. This is the only way to leave," Miles Sanctus said.
If Stella Sterling hadn’t taken a different route before, she might have almost believed him.
’I think they have more than just these two exits,’ she thought.
’After all, for a base this large to only have two exits... if some accident happened, everyone would be trapped and wiped out here.’
’There are probably secret passages or something.’
’But I’m an outsider, so of course they wouldn’t tell me.’
As Stella Sterling was thinking this, Miles Sanctus spoke again. "Miss Sterling, normally we leave by rappelling down with ropes. But you are my esteemed guest, and that method is far too dangerous. So, I’ve already arranged for a helicopter to take you from here. I hope you don’t mind waiting just a moment."
Miles Sanctus said with a wide grin.
Stella Sterling nodded. "Well, thank you very much!"
’I have to admit, this Miles Sanctus has really gone to great lengths to curry favor with me,’ she thought.
’He’s been incredibly thorough in all his preparations.’
"Don’t mention it. What time will you arrive tomorrow? I can have someone pick you up, or I can come get you myself."
Miles Sanctus looked at Stella Sterling’s smiling eyes, feeling increasingly pleased.
’I can tell this Stella Sterling is genuinely happy,’ he thought. ’That’s good. The happier she is, the better my chances.’
’When I was at Meridia Base, Miss Sterling rejected me so decisively, even using that whole speech to drive me away.’
’It seems now that all of that was just because we hadn’t spent any time together. She didn’t have any feelings for me, so her rejection was absolute.’
’But now that we’ve spent some time together, she’s bound to be moved by me.’
’In that case, I really ought to thank the people who kidnapped Stella Sterling and brought her here. If not for their actions, I never would have had the chance to show her all of this.’
’Otherwise, finding an opportunity to impress her would have taken a lot more time and effort!’
’I would have needed to find a special opening!’
’But now, this couple has provided me with the perfect opportunity.’
’Looking at it this way, maybe I was a bit hasty in killing that couple.’
’But at the time, it was to make Stella Sterling happy, so I suppose they died for a good cause.’
’Besides, they were my people. They were supposed to serve me.’
’Sacrificing the two of them for my future grand ambitions was simply what they should have done.’
’After all, how many people in this base are willing to die for me!’
’Considering they did perform a service for me, I’ll have someone give that couple a proper burial later.’
As Miles Sanctus thought this, the smile on his face grew wider.
Stella looked at him and nodded. "Alright."
’Once I leave Sanctyr Base, I can just slip into my space. How could he possibly know where I’ve gone?’ she thought.
’For now, I’m just playing along to get rid of him!’
’As for Sanctyr Base, I will indeed be back. But not tomorrow. I’ll wait until Black Swan and the others arrive!’
’I will definitely pay another... grand visit!’
’I just wonder if Miles Sanctus will still be able to smile like he is now when that time comes.’
Stella Sterling glanced back at them one last time. Just then, the helicopter arrived, and she climbed inside.
"Wait for it," she said. "We’ll be seeing each other again very soon."
