After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 512: Must Be Saved

Chapter 512: Chapter 512: Must Be Saved

After listening to Nia Quinn, Nina Jacobs felt she had a temporary grasp of the situation.

It looked like there was a high probability of a connection between The Aegis Conclave and Veridia.

It could be a partnership, or it could be a transaction.

"You can choose not to believe me, but if there’s a next time, I will kill you."

Nina Jacobs said.

"Alright."

When Nia Quinn heard this, a flicker of novelty appeared in her eyes.

This was the first time someone had spoken to her in such a tone.

And the first time someone had threatened to kill her.

It wasn’t false reassurance, nor was it a trick.

Nina Jacobs was serious when she said it.

"We’re heading to Riventon Base to stay the night. You can choose to stay there or leave on your own."

Nina Jacobs had Wayne Warner restart the car.

Originally, she hadn’t planned on going to Riventon Base.

After all, spending the night in a safe house was safer than anything.

But seeing the other woman crying like that, and with the bitter cold outside, she didn’t have the heart to leave her on the side of the road.

Nia Quinn’s eyes widened.

"You’re not going to have me make weapons for you?"

Nina Jacobs had just admitted herself that her Superconductive Hand Grenades were incredibly powerful.

But she saw Nina Jacobs shake her head.

"I have a friend who makes weapons. She’s very skilled, too."

Nina Jacobs thought of Chelsea Walsh.

Chelsea Walsh worked at the weapons research institute in City D. The "Liaoyuan Crystal," a project she had led, was also astonishingly powerful.

"A friend... who makes weapons?"

Nia Quinn’s eyes held a mix of confusion and envy.

The word "friend" was something she felt she had never experienced.

"It would be nice if someone called me a ’friend’ when they mentioned me to others..."

Nina Jacobs heard Nia Quinn muttering softly to herself at the side.

The biting cold air outside seemed to have grown even colder.

Zombies moved about with stiff limbs.

But Nina Jacobs knew this was only temporary. In about half a month, these zombies would be the first to adapt to the sudden cold.

After observing for a moment, Nina Jacobs noticed that Nia Quinn had fallen asleep, leaning against the seat.

So, not wanting to disturb her, Nina used her Superpower to continue nurturing the Divine Wood in the wooden box.

With Wayne Warner driving, she had been using her free time on the road to nurture the Divine Wood.

When Nia Quinn was suddenly startled awake, she found that only she and the big cat named Lexy were left in the car.

BOOM!

The sound of an explosion, accompanied by an intense flash of light, erupted outside. Like a startled bird, she ducked down inside the car, on high alert.

Nia Quinn peeked out the window and saw that it was Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner, killing the zombies outside.

There were many zombies outside, including several powerful Mutated Zombies.

A group of strangers was also fighting zombies, but it seemed some of them were injured and running low on Superpower energy.

The ground was already littered with zombie corpses. The arrival of Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner was clearly a great help to the other group.

—Meow.

Only then did Nia Quinn realize that she and the big cat were both crouched by the same window.

The big cat seemed a little displeased because she was crowding it.

She finally sat up straight and said, "Sorry, I crowded you."

"But it looks like she treats you pretty well. Did she rescue you, too?"

Nia Quinn was murmuring to herself when the car door suddenly opened.

Nina Jacobs saw that she was awake but didn’t say anything, simply looking down and pulling a bottle out of her backpack.

She then walked toward the group of people with it in hand.

"This is..."

Benjamin Wood stared in shock at the clear bottle Nina Jacobs was handing him.

’Could this be the legendary Holy Water?!’

Nina Jacobs nodded. "Use it on him. It might just save his life."

The man lying on the ground was a captain from the Riventon Base search and rescue team. His face had already turned a deathly purple.

Nina Jacobs didn’t recognize him, but just moments earlier, as they were driving, a long spike had erupted from the ground. He had been the one to rush forward and sever it in the nick of time.

He had been fighting zombies at the time and was consequently impaled from behind by a Mutated Zombie.

She felt she had a duty to save him.

"This... does this mean our captain can be saved?!"

A look of elation flashed across Benjamin Wood’s face. Without hesitation, he was about to give the potion in his hand to his captain.

But a vine suddenly shot out from the side.

The vine blocked Benjamin Wood’s path.

"What are you doing!

Our captain just saved you!"

Benjamin Wood demanded angrily. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, the precious Holy Water would have fallen to the ground.

A man in a gray coat walked over.

"Isn’t saving people the job of your search and rescue team? Don’t try to guilt-trip me with that morality nonsense."

Then he turned to Nina Jacobs and said, "I’ll buy it. Name your price in Crystal Cores or supplies. Or do you have more? I’ll take them all."

Hearing the man’s words, Nina Jacobs stepped forward and snatched the bottle from Benjamin Wood’s hand.

Benjamin Wood looked disappointed.

’Holy Water is incredibly expensive, enough to trade for a whole truck of supplies. Is our captain really beyond saving?’

To his surprise, however, Nina Jacobs didn’t say a word and poured the entire potion directly into the captain’s mouth.

CRACK.

The potion bottle was shattered by a burst of flame.

Nina Jacobs looked at the man in gray and said, "That was the last bottle. I never intended to sell it."

[Host’s action detected. This act will lead to the saving of 45 human lives in several days. "Selfless Savior" title triggered. Reward: 45 bottles of Healing Potion!]

’Looks like my judgment was sound. This captain on the ground was worth saving.’

"You... you just don’t know what’s good for you!"

The man in the gray coat said angrily.

"Captain! Captain, you’re awake?! This is great!"

Just then, Benjamin Wood and the surrounding search and rescue team members cried out in joyful surprise.

The man on the ground slowly came to, his deathly purple face having already returned to a healthy, ruddy color.

Seeing this, the people around them began to whisper in amazement.

"So that’s Holy Water. It really can save a life."

"What an idiot, giving something so good away to someone else."

"..."

Hearing the murmurs, the newly awakened Aurelius Marshall instantly understood what had happened to him.

He quickly stood up to thank Nina Jacobs.

"Don’t mention it. You saved us first."

Nina Jacobs said with a nod.

"It’s our duty to save people."

Aurelius Marshall’s heart still skipped a beat when he learned he had drunk an entire bottle of Holy Water.

After all, even the Base Commander of their own Riventon Base was willing to pay a fortune for such a miraculous medicine.

"See? He said it himself."

The man in the gray coat shrugged his shoulders as he spoke.

Nina Jacobs found this amusing. "A gentleman who can afford Holy Water... it seems your resources are quite substantial."

The moment she spoke, everyone’s attention immediately shifted to him.

"I was just talking nonsense!

Damn it, why does it feel even colder."

The man wrapped his gray coat tighter around himself, then scurried back into his car.

"Thank you for sticking up for us. I hear you two are heading to the base for the first time. We’ll lead the way."

Aurelius Marshall added.

"Yeah, everyone, get back in the cars. It’s too cold out here."

Benjamin Wood shivered.

White clouds of vapor formed in front of everyone as they spoke, instantly condensing into fine ice crystals with a faint, rustling sound.

Just opening one’s mouth to speak felt like it was draining all their body heat, leaving their lips stiff and numb.

Even without a thermometer, they could clearly feel the temperature drop again.

By the time Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner got back to the car, the temperature outside had already dropped to negative 28 degrees Celsius.
