Chapter 441: Quarrel
Chapter 441: Chapter 441: Quarrel
It wasn’t until the afternoon of the next day that Nina Jacobs had a chance to meet with Valerius Lucas and Hartley.
It turned out that after hearing about the situation here two nights ago, they had decided to make a trip to Lornwood Base.
They were worried about the comrades who had once fought alongside them.
"We were worried those people would get desperate and try to destroy this place,"
Hartley said bluntly.
They were currently in the collective dormitory.
Cordelia believed that since the place had already been searched, no one else would be coming back for a while.
"Yeah, and even if they want to destroy this place,
we can’t just stand by and watch everyone go to their deaths."
Valerius Lucas had originally planned to bring more people, but Harlan and Reinhard Caldwell thought it wasn’t the right time for a direct confrontation.
That was why Felix Finch had come up with the idea for the two of them to disguise their identities and follow Genevieve into the base first.
As for the others, Felix Finch would have them lie in ambush near the base, ready to act on their signal at any moment.
Nina Jacobs nodded. "That’s the safest approach. Besides, we now know they have another main camp.
Their next move will probably be to search for the missing supplies."
Hartley was very perceptive; he must have guessed that the base leadership wouldn’t leave any escape route for the old guards.
With Valerius Lucas and Hartley here, they could use this opportunity to try and contact their old subordinates.
"Who on earth took the supplies from here?
If we find out, maybe we can even work with them."
Listening on the side, Genevieve felt a sense of vindication.
She had long felt that General Hughes and Mrs. White weren’t the people others made them out to be.
Everyone had originally focused their hatred on the brutal Evander Langdon.
But after seeing the real Evander Langdon yesterday, they realized that everything they had thought they knew was a lie.
"Most of the supplies are probably still at their main camp,"
Nina Jacobs replied.
"No matter who took the supplies, our next objective remains the same."
That was to transfer as many survivors from Lornwood Base to Tomorrow Base as possible.
"Nina Jacobs is right,"
Hartley said. "Captain Lucas and I think so too. Right now, Tomorrow Base is short on city defense soldiers. We want to bring over all the soldiers we can from here."
"If that’s the case, I have someone to recommend.
You can discuss it with him."
Nina Jacobs hadn’t seen Grim in the past two days.
But she knew General Hughes and his people hadn’t grown suspicious of him.
He was even put in charge of many of the search missions within the base.
After all, he was the one who found Ambrose White’s key on Director Palmer.
"Grim’s real name is Stowe Lynch. He used to be a friend of the old base commander... the old general. I never thought he’d be the one to stay behind and endure all this humiliation,"
Valerius Lucas said with emotion.
They had also heard about Grim from Harlan and Reinhard Caldwell.
It would be a lie to say they weren’t surprised, but more than that, they were moved.
Because Grim was walking a path where one wrong step meant losing everything.
Nina Jacobs hadn’t forgotten their main task either.
After learning that Genevieve had brought a few others back with her, she assigned tasks to each of them.
"The base doesn’t have many supplies, so the lockdown won’t last long. I estimate it will be lifted tomorrow.
You all need to be careful and stay safe."
Nina Jacobs didn’t stay for long.
That evening, however, Genevieve’s door was knocked on by someone she never expected.
It was Claire Warner.
"You..."
Genevieve stared at Claire Warner in astonishment.
"Nina Jacobs sent me to bring you something."
Claire Warner produced a case filled with all sorts of weapons and ammunition.
There were even smoke grenades and tear gas canisters—things specifically designed for use against people.
"Stay safe."
Claire Warner set the case down and left in a hurry.
Genevieve stared at the case of weapons, and then a possibility suddenly occurred to her.
If Claire Warner had also been in Lornwood Base all this time, could she be the one who took the rest of its supplies?
’After all, she’s Nina Jacobs’s hidden pawn here.’
At this thought, Genevieve covered her mouth.
Not out of worry, but out of excitement.
’If that’s really the case, then Tomorrow Base might not have to worry about a shortage of supplies anymore.’
Nina Jacobs knew Genevieve was a smart woman.
’Perhaps she’ll guess something.’
But she knew Genevieve wouldn’t betray them easily. Because besides Tomorrow Base, Keldorn had no other place that would give ordinary people a chance to survive...
Nina Jacobs was also very curious about General Hughes and Mrs. White’s next move.
But over the past few days, it seemed they had done nothing in the base besides kill people.
Arcadia White had killed nearly everyone who had followed Ambrose White.
General Hughes had also executed many people.
Unable to withstand the torture, Director Palmer had directly confessed his involvement in the plan.
General Hughes had wanted to question him further, but Arcadia White couldn’t resist killing Director Palmer first.
The couple had a huge fight over the matter.
The only reason Nina Jacobs knew all this was because she had overheard their argument using her "Five Senses Enhancement".
Her ears were also filled with the deafening cries of a child.
Nina Jacobs was about to deactivate her "Five Senses Enhancement," but the child was apparently taken away, and the couple’s voices became audible again.
"I’ll send you and the child back in the next day or two. The situation here is no longer suitable for you to stay."
Anselm Hughes rubbed his brow, suppressing his anger as he spoke.
"Then what about our previous plan? Without Evander Langdon, we’ll be easily exposed!"
Arcadia White said.
"You don’t need to worry about that. I have my ways."
’His own ways?’
Nina Jacobs listened with great interest. ’Could Anselm Hughes be planning to find Evander Langdon?’
"You’re not thinking of doing *that* again, are you?
The White Clan won’t agree to it, and neither will I!"
Arcadia White’s tone was agitated.
"I’m doing this for all of us. No one wanted things to turn out this way.
If the Mystic Sect is willing to help, we can definitely find the people who stole the supplies,"
Anselm Hughes said.
The loss of the supplies was his responsibility. If he didn’t find a way to get them back, it would be a stain on his life’s record.
He also wouldn’t be able to answer to the White Family.
"No! The White Family will never cooperate with the Mystic Sect. Don’t even think about it,"
Arcadia White said heatedly.
Anselm Hughes seemed to sigh at her words. After a long moment, he said,
"How about this: I’ll go back with you this time,
and we’ll discuss with The White Clan how to resolve this."
Arcadia White looked at him in disappointment. "You just refuse to listen to me.
I told you to kill Reinhard Caldwell, but you insisted the base was short-staffed and protected him.
I will never forgive you for my brother Ambrose White’s death!"
"Arcadia White! I’ve already shown you enough respect!
Who do you think you are? If my Hughes Family didn’t have to fulfill its marriage alliance with your White Family, do you think I would have married you?
If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have had to stay in Keldorn at all. I would have returned to the Hughes Family headquarters long ago!"
As the argument between General Hughes and Arcadia White continued, Nina Jacobs had a sudden realization.
’So Anselm Hughes is also from the main Hughes Family in City A.’
’Does that mean he and Tyson Hughes from City D Base are from the same family?’
’What a coincidence.’
No wonder this General Hughes was able to advance to the Intermediate level in Keldorn. His promotion was surely supported by the main Hughes Family headquarters.
’But what exactly did he mean by that?’
’By seeking help from the Mystic Sect, they can find the people who took the supplies?’
’It seems there’s a lot more to this mysterious Mystic Sect than she knew.’
