After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 440: Stolen Clean

Chapter 440: Chapter 440: Stolen Clean

That night, almost no one in Lornwood Base slept.

Nina Jacobs, however, returned to her residence after midnight.

She took a careful inventory of the supplies she had acquired that night.

The supplies in the underground warehouse were far more abundant than she had imagined, filling nearly all of her thirty-plus remaining storage slots.

Fortunately, the system had just been upgraded, and the capacity of her storage slots had expanded again.

She merged some of her previous slots, ultimately freeing up over twenty empty ones.

Her current reserve of supplies was now quite substantial.

The supplies she had gathered tonight alone were probably enough to sustain a base of ten thousand people for more than two years.

’The White Family’s supply stash must be even larger than this.’

Nina Jacobs lay on her bed, gazing at the wooden key in her hand, which she had already cleaned.

’I’ve probably collected almost all of Lornwood Base’s supplies. It seems there’s no longer any need to stay here.’

But the whereabouts of the supplies that had been transported away earlier were still unknown.

’The White Family is one of the Ancient Martial Clans... do they have any connection to the Mystic Sect?’

Other than Tristan Lynch and his group from before, it seemed the Aegis Conclave hadn’t gotten its hands on this place yet.

However, she knew it was only a matter of time. The disappearance of Magnus York and the others would most likely be discovered soon.

She had to secure all the supplies before anyone from the Aegis Conclave arrived.

For the next two days, Lornwood Base was under complete lockdown—entry was permitted, but no one could leave.

Every day, numerous people were dragged into the Correction Chambers for interrogation, and a sense of panic gripped the base.

"The Aid Association was taken down too. I heard Montague Goldman is dead, but I have no idea what happened to Director Palmer."

When Cordelia and Reginald Sutton returned, they brought the sweltering heat in with them.

Nina Jacobs had somehow acquired several air cooler fans.

Although high-power appliances like air conditioners couldn’t be used in the base, the fans, constantly blowing air cooled by water that Lexy condensed, made the room surprisingly cool.

"How are things at the collective dorms?"

Nina Jacobs was watching Lexy crunch loudly on her cat food.

The loud, crunchy sounds were incredibly stress-relieving for her.

"Those people you mentioned aren’t there. I asked Jenna, and she just said she didn’t know."

After speaking, Cordelia took a glass of water from Reginald Sutton and gulped it down.

Nina had asked them to inquire about the people who had escaped from the Correction Chambers, but there seemed to be no trace of them within the base.

"If they’re not in the base, they must have escaped to the outside," Nina Jacobs said.

Theseus York and his group weren’t among the new people who had been thrown into the Correction Chambers either.

"Anyway, it’s terrifying out there right now. You can get grabbed for questioning just by walking down the street. All the managers at the Aid Association were arrested. Not a single one was left. It looks like they really value that Commander Langdon."

Cordelia only knew that Evander Langdon had been rescued by a group of people and had most likely gone to their Tomorrow Base.

"It’s not because of that. The supplies in the warehouses are gone," Nina Jacobs finally explained.

"For real? The supplies were stolen? All of them?" Cordelia’s eyes went wide as she sat down next to Nina and asked.

"Yes, all of them," Nina Jacobs confirmed with certainty.

’The One-Click Collection feature is always thorough, never leaving behind a single grain of rice. That’s how I know I took it all.’

"Whoa, what kind of organization is that powerful? They must have a lot of Space Superpower Users, right? And the base didn’t even notice..." Cordelia marveled.

"Miss Jacobs, the thieves must be good people who couldn’t stand them," Zoraida, upon hearing this, looked excited instead.

"Zoraida is right. Those supplies didn’t belong to anyone in the first place. Maybe the people who took them can make better use of them," Reginald Sutton agreed.

Cordelia agreed with them as well, but still said worriedly, "We still shouldn’t say this outside. I heard General Hughes has killed a lot of people. Nina, you be careful too. Don’t get implicated by anyone."

"He probably won’t kill me for the time being," Nina Jacobs said with a smile.

’Because only Wayne Warner and I have seen what the rescuers looked like.’

"It’s a good thing Killian Hayes and Cassian Lynch already left for Tomorrow Base the day before. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to leave now."

Cordelia was very happy to learn that Killian and the others had left.

She believed that anyone who went to Tomorrow Base would regret not going sooner.

That afternoon, a battered car pulled up outside Lornwood Base.

After discovering that the occupants were just a few ordinary people without Superpowers, the guards in charge of inspections waved them right in.

"Oh, it’s you guys. No need to register, just go on in."

The gate guard recognized Genevieve and her group.

Genevieve and her crew were just ordinary, powerless people from the base.

They used to take any job they could to survive, so the guards at the gate all knew them.

"Thanks, Vesper. But what’s going on here?" Genevieve asked.

Lornwood Base had sealed its main gates, leaving only a small side gate open for entry.

"Don’t even ask. You guys were out scavenging for supplies, right? Well, someone came to the base to ’find’ supplies, and they found them and took them all."

The man called Vesper treated it like some kind of cosmic joke.

The others around him chimed in nonchalantly.

It didn’t matter to them whether the base’s supplies were gone or not.

The pitiful amount of supplies they used was still stored in the barracks, and there was no telling how long that would even last.

"No way. I can’t believe something like that happened."

Genevieve and Dean Coleman feigned shock.

After they entered the base, Vesper noticed that his companion, Crispin Jarrett, had tears welling up in his eyes for some reason.

"What’s wrong with you?" Vesper asked the gaunt Crispin Jarrett.

"It’s nothing. Just got some sand in my eye."

Crispin Jarrett wiped the corner of his eye as he watched the group’s retreating figures.

He had just seen two familiar figures among them.

One of them was General Lucas, the man who had saved his life.

He was sure he hadn’t been mistaken. Although General Lucas was in disguise, he would never fail to recognize him.

Crispin Jarrett decided to pretend he hadn’t seen anything, because he knew what it would mean for the general if his identity was exposed here.

Nina Jacobs learned of Genevieve’s return from Zoraida.

"Miss Jacobs! Miss Jacobs! Let me tell you something! Let me tell you!"

Zoraida came running back, bouncing with joy. Seeing her mysterious expression, Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but ask with an amused smile, "What’s got you so happy?"

Zoraida pulled her into the room before taking out a cell phone.

"Naomi gave this to me! She’s safe now! This is great!"

Zoraida danced with joy, as if she were the one who had reached safety.

’Naomi gave it to Zoraida?’

A thought then struck Nina Jacobs. And sure enough, it wasn’t long before Cordelia and Reginald Sutton returned as well.

"Genevieve is back with a letter. And Valerius Lucas and Hartley came with her," Reginald Sutton said.

Nina Jacobs took the letter. It was from Felix Finch, and it detailed the events of the past few days.

It included the news that Harlan had already brought Evander Langdon to Tomorrow Base.

Nina also saw Theseus York’s name in the letter. It turned out that after they escaped the Correction Chambers, they had run into Grim by chance.

Grim had arranged for them to leave the base first.

In the letter, Felix Finch also mentioned that they had encountered General Hughes a few days ago and seriously wounded him, and that they had found a large number of Crystal Core Cars at the location Nina had provided.

"Looks like they’ve been busy these past few days, too," Nina Jacobs said with a laugh.

She conjured a flame at her fingertips and instantly turned the letter in her hand to ash.
