Chapter 438: An Intentional Introduction
Chapter 438: Chapter 438: An Intentional Introduction
Aside from the drivers, even the "decoys" had all gotten their stories straight.
It seemed that during the time she was in the warehouse, the drivers and decoys had already agreed on a story.
"Commander Langdon was kidnapped? By whom?"
Wyatt Holden asked in shock.
No wonder they couldn’t find Evander Langdon anywhere in the Correctional Facility earlier.
"It was Seraphina Chase!
One of General Hughes’s people."
one of the drivers answered.
"Did you get a clear look at where they came from?"
’It was actually Seraphina Chase?’
Wyatt Holden immediately called someone over. "Quick, go report this to General Hughes."
"Yes, sir!"
Elwood Stone knew the gravity of the situation and hurried toward the exit.
The moment he stepped outside and was about to close the door, he clearly felt something block it for an instant.
He was a bit puzzled. He gave the door behind him another hard pull, and seeing that it closed successfully this time, he dismissed the strange feeling and ran off in a certain direction.
Nina Jacobs successfully scaled the side gate’s wall under the cover of darkness.
The moment she landed, the Invisibility Potion wore off.
But she didn’t stop, instead using her Speed Element Superpower to vanish on the spot.
The Lornwood Base gate was already under lockdown.
Fortunately, it was a "no exit" lockdown. After Nina Jacobs found Wayne Warner waiting outside the base, she entered directly through the main gate with him.
She had covered the several-kilometer distance from the side gate to the main gate in less than two minutes.
"Captain Jacobs? Why are you coming back from outside?"
Cecily Wells was in charge of the inspection at the sealed-off gate.
She asked in surprise upon seeing Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner.
"Don’t ask. Where’s General Hughes? I have something to report,"
Nina Jacobs said, feigning exhaustion.
"The General and Mrs. White are furious right now. General Hughes has gone to the underground tunnels, though.
I’d advise you to think carefully about your explanation."
Cecily Wells looked at Nina Jacobs with a hint of schadenfreude.
Mrs. White had sent Nina Jacobs to the Correctional Facility for backup, but Ambrose White ended up dead at Reinhard Caldwell’s hands.
Someone saw Nina Jacobs appear inside the Correctional Facility but not immediately go to help Ambrose White, so Mrs. White had just been looking for her everywhere.
"I was deceived by Seraphina Chase and Drake Shaw, too,"
Nina Jacobs said.
"The two of them must be the moles from the valley."
"What did you say?
How could Seraphina and Drake Shaw..."
Before Cecily Wells could figure out what was going on, Nina Jacobs had already left with Wayne Warner.
After returning to the base, Nina Jacobs wasn’t nervous at all anymore.
She took a leisurely stroll around the area, then paid a visit to the communal dormitories.
However, she didn’t see any sign of Theseus York or the others from Team 1.
’Have they already left?’
Nina Jacobs muttered to herself.
Just then, Wayne Warner tugged on the corner of her shirt, as if reminding her of something.
"Yeah, I know. Let him follow,"
Nina Jacobs said in a low voice.
Ever since entering the base, she had noticed someone following her and Wayne Warner.
Originally, she could have stepped into the shadows and eliminated them, but then she had another idea.
The base was currently crawling with guards on search duty.
The doors to the Correctional Facility were wide open.
When Montague Goldman saw Nina Jacobs go inside, he hesitated for a moment before following her in.
Rhonda Rowan had said that Nina Jacobs must have had other reasons for coming to the base.
Director Palmer had already spread the news about the Hydrokinetic Cat for his sake. The goal was to make the base’s survivors fight over it and blow the situation out of proportion.
The base had always forbidden Water Element Superpowers, so when the time came, they might just execute her on the spot.
He just hadn’t expected something like this to happen tonight.
Since Nina Jacobs had killed his only relative, Corin, Montague Goldman was determined to make her pay. By following her, he might even find proof that she was secretly keeping the Hydrokinetic Cat.
But after entering the Correctional Facility, he quickly lost sight of Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner.
Not only that, but the stench of blood was overwhelming, and bodies littered the roadside.
Montague Goldman was a Superpower User himself, so he wasn’t afraid of the corpses.
Suddenly, he seemed to spot Wayne Warner’s figure and immediately gave chase.
But after running around in circles a few times, he realized he was lost.
Just then, he heard voices from not too far away.
Montague Goldman hid in a panic, even though he didn’t know why he was hiding.
"Search everywhere!
Someone might still be hiding in here!"
Blood trickled from the corner of Wyatt Holden’s mouth. He’d been hit by General Hughes.
He had just discovered traces of a Superpower being used above the tunnel, and directly above was the area outside the Correctional Facility’s store.
In other words, the person who entered the tunnel had gotten in from the Correctional Facility.
General Hughes had flown into a rage upon seeing the completely empty warehouse and had even wanted to kill him right then and there.
And now he had to find something, or he worried he wouldn’t live another two days.
After all, with so many supplies lost, he simply couldn’t bear the consequences.
"Who’s there?!"
A Spiritual Element Superpower User had already detected Montague Goldman hiding in the shadows.
Montague Goldman was immediately dragged out.
"I-I didn’t do anything! I just came in to take a look."
Seeing himself quickly surrounded by a group of people, Montague Goldman was instantly terrified, his voice trembling.
But the more he acted this way, the more suspicious he seemed.
"Who exactly are you?
I’ve never seen you in the Correctional Facility before."
Wyatt Holden eyed him with suspicion. As the supervisor of Team 5, he had seen all the inmates in the Correctional Facility.
But this Montague Goldman was clearly an outsider.
"I was following Nina Jacobs!"
Montague Goldman admitted outright.
"Why were you following her?"
Wyatt Holden asked immediately.
The ground outside the store had previously been broken open by Nina Jacobs using her Earth Element Superpower.
That was why his first suspect had been Nina Jacobs.
But the timeline didn’t seem to add up.
"She just got back from outside the base, and I was following behind her.
I-I just wanted to see what she was up to..."
"Are you saying you followed me in here?
Do you think anyone will believe such a lame excuse?"
Nina Jacobs’s appearance cut Montague Goldman off.
"I did follow the two of you in here,
you just didn’t notice me."
Montague Goldman wasn’t stupid. He could tell he shouldn’t have come in here.
"Even if Wayne Warner and I didn’t notice,"
Nina Jacobs retorted.
"how could the guards at the entrance have possibly let you in?"
"Or is it that you just haven’t had a chance to escape from here yet?"
Hearing this, Wyatt Holden’s suspicious gaze fell on Montague Goldman once more.
"Nonsense! There were clearly no guards just now!"
Montague Goldman argued.
"What’s your Superpower?" Wyatt Holden suddenly asked.
"I... I have an Earth Element Superpower,"
Montague Goldman replied, not understanding the reason for the question.
After hearing about this Superpower, a cold glint flashed in Wyatt Holden’s eyes.
"Tie him up! Take him away!"
There were always guards on duty outside the facility; the man was clearly lying.
"On what grounds are you arresting me?
I didn’t do anything!"
Montague Goldman shouted.
Wyatt Holden said, looking at Nina Jacobs, "Captain Jacobs, I think you also owe us an explanation for what happened tonight."
Nina Jacobs nodded. "I want to report directly to General Hughes. Where is he?"
When she saw Anselm Hughes again, she found him standing in an empty interrogation room, his face ashen.
The interrogation room was thick with the smell of blood.
"General Hughes, Nina Jacobs is back,"
Zinnia Wells reminded him from the side.
"Nina Jacobs, do you know Commander Langdon?"
Anselm Hughes asked directly.
