After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 434: A Father’s Battle

Chapter 434: Chapter 434: A Father’s Battle

[Your actions will save 36 human lives in a few days. "Selfless Savior" title triggered. Reward: 36 bottles of Healing Potion!]

[Your actions will save 21 human lives in a few days. "Selfless Savior" title triggered. Reward: 21 bottles of Healing Potion!]

...

The "Selfless Savior" title triggered nearly ten times in a row, surprising even Nina Jacobs.

’It looks like Zachary Sterling, Theseus York, and Dominic Sloan might all survive after all.’

She ran toward the source of the greatest commotion.

It was a courtyard between two buildings.

She quickly noticed the young man beside Drake Shaw.

The man was fighting a group of people, completely absorbed in the slaughter.

"No one is getting out of here today!"

The man unleashed a barrage of Wind Blades, throwing the scene into chaos.

Nina Jacobs recognized the voice.

It was Ambrose White, the man who had been speaking with Arcadia White earlier.

"Adjutant White, I’ve sealed the exits here. None of them can escape!"

Drake Shaw said from the side.

He also saw Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner behind her.

Both of them appeared to be unharmed.

SHLICK!

Ambrose White killed two more people before turning to Reinhard Caldwell, who was not far away.

"Director Caldwell, didn’t I tell you to take your men and keep an eye on the fighting arena?"

He seemed very displeased that Reinhard Caldwell had come here without authorization.

"Captain Lynn Lawson and a few others are over there, so Adjutant White has nothing to worry about for now."

Reinhard Caldwell said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

But Nina Jacobs noticed the flash of killing intent in his eyes.

"Brothers! Kill these officials! Let’s bust out of here together!"

Someone in the crowd yelled.

The cry was met with an overwhelming roar of approval.

Life in the Correctional Facility was brutal. Death could come at any moment. Once the spark of rebellion was lit, the fire was nearly impossible to extinguish.

The scene immediately descended into chaos.

Ambrose White summoned two Wind Dragon Vortexes and yelled to someone beside him,

"Reinforcements! Go get reinforcements!"

’Arcadia White was supposed to have sent plenty of people here. Why haven’t I seen any reinforcements?’

"Captain Jacobs, where are your people?!"

Drake Shaw shouted.

’Why have I only seen Nina Jacobs by herself this whole time?’

"They’re still outside. People are trying to break out, so I had my team guard the perimeter."

Nina Jacobs replied as she fought off her attackers.

At that moment, however, Reinhard Caldwell blocked the man who was about to go for reinforcements.

"Director Caldwell, what do you think you’re doing?"

Ambrose White demanded.

Reinhard Caldwell smiled. "It’s nothing. With you and me here, Adjutant White, we’re more than enough."

As soon as he finished speaking, Reinhard Caldwell conjured a barrage of Wind Blades and launched them at Ambrose White!

Many people on the scene noticed this.

Nina Jacobs realized something, too.

Harlan had told her that after the apocalypse, Reinhard Caldwell had protected his ten-year-old daughter on their arduous journey to Lornwood Base.

He had thought they would finally be safe at the base, but one day, his daughter was hit by a car and killed right there.

Harlan hadn’t told her who the culprit was, but now, it seemed she knew.

Reinhard Caldwell’s target for revenge was Ambrose White.

"Reinhard Caldwell! Are you blind?! What the hell are you doing?!"

Ambrose White roared.

"Ambrose White, you killed my daughter and still show no remorse. Today, you die!"

Reinhard Caldwell’s eyes were bloodshot, and his voice trembled.

He could never forget the horrific sight of his daughter’s crushed body.

"When did I..."

Ambrose White suddenly remembered something.

"Oh, sorry about that. I was drunk that day. Didn’t realize I’d actually killed someone."

He hadn’t even found out he’d hit someone until the next morning.

But his brother-in-law, Anselm Hughes, had just told him not to worry about it, so he had quickly forgotten.

"My wife gave her life for that child, and you think a simple ’sorry’ settles the matter?"

Reinhard Caldwell asked, his voice trembling.

That evening, an SUV had been tearing recklessly through the base, yet no one had dared to stop it.

His daughter hadn’t been running around. She was just standing obediently under the eaves, waiting for him to get off work, when she was run over for no reason.

"Alright, let’s talk about this tomorrow. I’ll come and apologize to you personally, Director Caldwell."

Ambrose White tried to placate him.

But his casual reassurances only enraged Reinhard Caldwell further.

"Tomorrow?"

Reinhard Caldwell laughed.

"Then we’ll see if you live to see it!"

A vicious Wind Ball, accompanied by Wind Blades, shot straight toward Ambrose White’s vital points.

Seeing this, Drake Shaw silently retreated to the side.

They all knew that Reinhard Caldwell had been a captain of the guards; his strength was considerable. Ambrose White was isolated and helpless here. With so many people from the Correctional Facility rioting, something was bound to go wrong.

He had to at least find Mrs. White and call for reinforcements.

But just as he reached a deserted stairwell corner, Wayne Warner blocked his path.

Nina Jacobs was standing to the side, looking as if she had been waiting for him.

"Nina Jacobs, what is the meaning of this?"

Drake Shaw had always been one of General Hughes’s men. Even though Nina Jacobs was a captain of the transport corps, he had never given her a second thought.

"It’s nothing. I just think Director Caldwell has the right idea."

Nina Jacobs said with a faint, unreadable smile.

Everard Crowley and the others standing guard outside had already informed her of the situation elsewhere in the base.

Riots had broken out in other areas, not just the Correctional Facility.

Some people were even trying to blow up the Water Management Center to release the Water Element Superpower Users held inside.

Most of the base’s guards had been dispatched to the Water Management Center.

Drake Shaw was incredulous.

"You’re in league with him? Aren’t you afraid of what General Hughes will do when he finds out?"

Even General Hughes usually had to handle his brother-in-law, Ambrose White, with kid gloves.

"He won’t know for the time being. Not as long as you’re dead."

Nina Jacobs smiled, her tone as light as if she were telling a joke.

"I think you’re the one with a death wish!"

Drake Shaw was about to make a move when Wayne Warner kicked him in the knee.

A flicker of flame, fast as a bullet, shot through Drake Shaw’s forehead. He fell, his eyes wide with shock. Expressionless, Nina Jacobs kicked his body to the side.

The battle between Reinhard Caldwell and Ambrose White continued.

Reinhard Caldwell noticed Nina Jacobs’s return and immediately guessed what she had been doing.

In the darkness, while fending off Ambrose White’s men, he pointed in a certain direction.

Nina Jacobs nodded.

It wasn’t in the direction of the fighting arena, but toward Harlan’s workshop.

Reinhard Caldwell was telling her to go there.

She could tell Reinhard Caldwell’s power was likely greater than Ambrose White’s.

The people caught in the chaos seemed to quickly distinguish friend from foe, and they all chose to ally themselves with Reinhard Caldwell.

Noticing Nina Jacobs leaving again from the corner of his eye, Reinhard Caldwell adjusted his glasses. His expression turned grim as he faced the now-panting Ambrose White.

What came next was his fight as a father.

God only knew how long he had waited for this day.

Nina Jacobs ran in the direction Reinhard Caldwell had indicated.

In that moment, she was experiencing the convenience of her position.

Whether they came across base guards or the original inmates from the Correctional Facility, no one blocked her and Wayne Warner’s path.

With her Five Senses Enhancement, she could hear Ms. Carter shouting in the fighting arena.

"...Those who put on their shackles voluntarily will not be killed! Those who return to their cells willingly will not be killed! Anyone attempting to make trouble or incite a riot will be shot on sight!"

"Like hell! That woman is bad news! I saw her conspiring with that Montague with my own two eyes! She must be the one who ordered all those killings! Don’t trust her!"

"Yeah, we can’t trust her! We’re dead either way, so we can’t just hand our lives over to someone like that..."

’Looks like things in the fighting arena won’t end until one side is annihilated.’

Nina Jacobs refocused her attention, only to find that Harlan’s workshop was also being guarded.

"Well, well, if it isn’t Chief Jacobs?"

the man said.
