Chapter 536: Chapter 249: Amazing, My Junior Brother (Part 2)

The soil around the hole’s opening had fresh, distinct marks from being stepped on and brushed by clothing.

A cool draft, a mix of soil, must, and a faint, indescribable chemical smell, emanated from within the hole.

"I’ll go down first!"

Xiaoliu volunteered. His build was relatively slim and agile.

He put on a headlamp and gloves, took out a high-powered flashlight, and checked the gear on his belt.

"Be careful. Stay safe. Bai Wan, you go down with him. If there’s anything, signal us immediately."

Yang Qi patted Bai Wan’s back.

Bai Wan let out a low "whuff" in understanding.

Xiaoliu took a deep breath, got down on his stomach, and carefully lowered his feet into the opening.

After landing, he turned on his high-powered flashlight and cautiously scanned his surroundings.

"It’s clear. The hole isn’t big, looks man-made, and it’s dry inside."

Xiaoliu’s voice echoed up from below.

"Bai Wan, go," Yang Qi gestured.

Without any hesitation, Bai Wan leaped lightly into the hole, landing silently.

Immediately after, short, excited barks from Bai Wan came from inside the hole.

That was followed by Xiaoliu’s joyous, irrepressible shout, "Captain Hong, I found it! There’s really something here, hidden in an earthen niche at the very back, wrapped in several layers of plastic bags."

"That’s great!"

Outside the hole, Hong Jianfei and Lao Zhang were overjoyed.

Soon, Xiaoliu and Bai Wan climbed out of the hole one after the other.

Xiaoliu was carefully holding an irregularly shaped package wrapped in a thick black plastic bag and covered in yellow waterproof tape.

The package wasn’t large, but it looked heavy.

The group found a relatively flat rock outside the hole. Hong Jianfei put on gloves and unwrapped the many layers.

Finally, he revealed the contents: white, crystalline substances in both rock and powder form, separated into clear, sealed bags.

Although they still needed to take it back for professional analysis, with Hong Jianfei’s years of experience in narcotics enforcement, he could tell with a single glance that this was most likely methamphetamine.

And based on the amount, it was definitely not a small haul—a conservative estimate would be over three hundred grams.

A gleam shot through Hong Jianfei’s eyes. He looked at Yang Qi, then at Bai Wan, who was squatting beside them with his head held high, chest puffed out, and bright eyes. His gaze filled with admiration and gratitude.

"Good boy, Bai Wan, you’re such a good boy!"

Hong Jianfei, Lao Zhang, and Xiaoliu couldn’t help but crouch down, taking turns vigorously ruffling Bai Wan’s head and patting his back, lavishing him with praise.

"We owe it all to Bai Wan this time. Not only did he find the suspect, he led us right to the hiding spot!"

Lao Zhang was full of praise for Bai Wan’s performance. "That sense of smell, that tracking ability, the accuracy of his alerts... he’s just as good as the drug-sniffing dogs in our unit. No, he’s even better!"

Bai Wan panted happily, his tail wagging so fast it looked like a small fan.

Yang Qi also smiled and patted his head.

Hong Jianfei carefully re-wrapped the drugs, applied evidence seals, placed it in a special evidence bag, and then said to Yang Qi with great solemnity.

"Advisor Yang, rest assured, Bai Wan performed a great service this time. I will report this to my superiors and request a commendation for him. He will receive all the accolades and rewards he deserves; not a single one will be missed!"

"You’re too kind, Captain Hong. He was just doing his duty."

Yang Qi smiled, then his tone shifted, calm but pointed. "By the way, Captain Hong, Jiang Fugui was caught red-handed with the goods. There’s basically no way he can get away."

"His son, Jiang Dafu, who brought people to my house to cause trouble today, threatening and intimidating us—his actions were also vile."

"A punk like that is probably not a decent person in the local community. I’m sure he’s been involved in plenty of fights, brawls, stirring up trouble, and maybe even more serious things."

"I was wondering if you could ask the Public Security Division to take this opportunity to dig into him? Maybe it could lead to other cases and rid society of a menace."

Hearing this, a sharp glint flashed in Hong Jianfei’s eyes. He understood what Yang Qi meant.

This was about completely crushing Jiang Dafu, leaving him no chance to recover or retaliate later.

He nodded readily, his tone laced with a hint of coldness.

"Jiang Dafu’s behavior today—gathering a mob to cause trouble and threatening the safety of others—is already under suspicion. Our Narcotics Division will communicate fully with the Public Security Division to dig up everything on him from over the years!"

"It would be a miracle if a local hoodlum like him, who terrorizes the countryside, had a clean record. As long as we dig deep, we’ll find enough to put him away for a few years!"

"Then I’ll have to trouble you, Captain Hong."

Yang Qi smiled in thanks, the depths of his eyes completely calm.

Jiang Fugui hid drugs; he got what he deserved.

Jiang Dafu came to his home to humiliate his grandmother and threatened to beat Bai Wan to death. He had to pay a price for that as well.

’I’m not a vengeful person, but when someone crosses my line, I show no mercy.’

...

...

The police cars carrying Jiang Dafu and his cronies sped away with sirens wailing. The red and blue lights vanished at the end of the village road, but the discussions they left behind, the ripples they stirred up, did not fade for a long time.

New Year’s Eve was just around the corner, and most of the young adults who worked elsewhere had returned home to celebrate.

The village, usually somewhat deserted, was much livelier with the return of the young people.

Many people weren’t aware of the changes in Yang Qi over the past six months or so.

The scene just now—police cars entering the village, arresting people in public, and the deputy captain of the Narcotics Division personally making a house call—was simply too stunning.

In front of the small store at the village entrance, and in the courtyards of every household, voices rose and fell in a chorus of discussion, full of astonishment and speculation.

"Several police cars, what a scene! That bastard Jiang Dafu really picked a fight with the wrong person this time!"

"Isn’t that the truth! I saw it with my own eyes. They slapped the cuffs on him and hauled him away. His wife was so scared her legs went weak."

"That Yang Qi kid, he’s that powerful now? He can summon the cops with a single phone call?"

"Hah, you guys just got back, so you don’t know. That Qi kid has been something else these past six months!"

"Something else how? Isn’t he working in the city? I seem to remember he was a programmer or something?"
