Chapter 534 - 248: Scared Pissless

Chapter 534: Chapter 248: Scared Pissless

His wife, "Red-beaked Gull," was touching up her makeup to the side, muttering filthy curses about Yang Qi and that damned dog.

Suddenly, the wail of police sirens echoed from the end of the village road.

Not just one, but several.

WAIL—WAIL—

Three blue-and-white police cruisers, their red and blue lights flashing, came tearing down the road. They kicked up a cloud of dust before screeching to a halt right outside the gate to Yang Qi’s courtyard.

The doors flew open and seven or eight officers filed out. Their movements were crisp and their expressions were grim.

Jiang Dafu and his crew were stunned. They stood there, dumbfounded, the brutish scowls on their faces frozen solid.

’What’s going on?’

’Why are the police here?’

’And why so many of them?’

A man in plainclothes got out of the passenger seat of one of the cars. It was none other than Luo Kaifeng, a captain from the Forest Police.

As soon as he was out of the car, his gaze swept over Jiang Dafu’s gang, and his smile tightened. He nodded to the officer in charge, a stern-looking man with a darker complexion who had just stepped out of another car.

The lead officer’s gaze was electric, instantly locking onto Jiang Dafu, who stood dazed in his flashy clothes. With a wave of his hand, the officer bellowed.

"Restrain them!"

Several officers immediately descended on Jiang Dafu and his cronies like tigers pouncing on their prey.

Jiang Dafu finally snapped out of it and stumbled back in fear. He recognized the lead officer—a deputy captain from the county’s public security division, surnamed Chen.

As if grasping at straws, he quickly yelled, "Captain Chen, Captain Chen! It’s me, Dafu! This is a misunderstanding, a total misunderstanding! We’re just here to settle a dispute over a dog bite. We weren’t causing any trouble, Captain Chen!"

However, Captain Chen’s face was like ice. Without sparing him so much as a glance, he said sharply.

"Jiang Dafu! You are under suspicion of unlawful assembly, making criminal threats, and disturbing the public order! Take him away!"

Before the captain had even finished speaking, two officers had already grabbed Jiang Dafu’s arms, one on each side, while a third deftly slapped a pair of handcuffs on him.

"Red-beaked Gull" let out a terrified shriek. The compact mirror in her hand fell to the ground with a SMASH, shattering into pieces.

A few of Jiang Dafu’s henchmen spun around and tried to bolt down the village’s narrow alleyways.

"Stop! Run again and you’ll be charged with obstructing an officer!"

Captain Chen bellowed, signaling the other officers to give chase.

The scene descended into chaos, but it was over quickly. Aside from two fast-footed punks who managed to disappear down an alley, Jiang Dafu, his wife, and three other henchmen who failed to escape were all restrained.

As he was being marched to the police car, Jiang Dafu was still shouting indignantly.

"I’ve been wronged! Captain Chen, I’m innocent! I just came to get money for medical bills!"

"Yang, you son of a bitch, you set me up!"

But his shouts were futile against the cold, hard steel of the handcuffs.

Luo Kaifeng watched Jiang Dafu get shoved into the car and shook his head. After a quick gesture to Captain Chen, he walked over to Yang Qi’s courtyard gate, accompanied by another man in plainclothes. This man was in his forties, with lean, sharp features and piercing eyes. Luo Kaifeng knocked gently on the gate.

The gate opened to reveal Yang Qi standing just inside, his expression calm.

"Advisor Yang."

Luo Kaifeng greeted him with a smile, then stepped aside to make the introduction. "This is the deputy head of our county’s narcotics division, Hong Jianfei. Captain Hong."

The sharp-featured man stepped forward, a broad smile spreading across his face as he eagerly extended both hands. "Advisor Yang, a pleasure, a real pleasure. I’ve heard so much about you! Xiao Jun was singing your praises to the high heavens on the phone. It’s great to finally meet the man himself."

He grasped Yang Qi’s hand firmly with both of his own, his manner both enthusiastic and sincere.

Yang Qi smiled as well and shook his hand.

"Captain Hong, hello. Sorry to trouble you all to come out here. Captain Luo, thanks for your hard work as well."

"No trouble, no trouble at all."

Hong Jianfei waved his hands dismissively, his smile vanishing as his expression turned serious. "Advisor Yang, the tip you provided was absolutely critical. Our division’s drug-sniffing dog got a positive hit for methamphetamine residue on Jiang Fugui. A strong one, at that."

"Our people have him in custody now and are interrogating him. Furthermore, based on your tip and his son’s behavior, we’ve already started investigating Jiang Dafu’s social network and are preparing to search his home for any potential stash locations."

"We might just be able to dig something big up this time!"

His eyes shone with a sharp, excited light—the signature look of a detective who’s just stumbled upon a major lead.

"Of course. Bai Wan is professionally trained. His alerts are never wrong."

Yang Qi said calmly, his voice filled with absolute confidence in Bai Wan.

"Haha, that’s for sure. Xiao Jun mentioned on the phone that your Bai Wan, Xiaojiu, and Qi Zai are all ’special comrades-in-arms’ who have rendered distinguished service. He’s done it again this time! Once we make progress on the case, I’ll be sure to request an official commendation for him from my superiors!"

Hong Jianfei laughed, then lowered his voice.

"Aside from thanking you, Advisor Yang, there’s another reason I came. I was hoping to ask Bai Wan to lead us into the back hills. We want to see if he can find where Jiang Fugui stashed the drugs!"
