Chapter 398: Chapter 216: A Stone Spouting Water, How Strange
The zookeeper said angrily, "I’ve been reminding people and patrolling constantly, but I still couldn’t stop them. How can people be so awful!"
"This isn’t the time to be angry."
Yang Qi said with a serious expression, "Dr. Li, what’s the treatment? What equipment do we need? The facilities here aren’t sufficient, are they?"
"We have to get back to the Veterinary Station."
Dr. Li made a swift decision. "Xiaowang, go get the Transport Cage. Be careful. An An is very weak right now and can’t take any more stress. Xiao Yang, please help me hold him steady. I’m going to give An An a sedative and a cardiac stimulant to stabilize him for the journey."
"Okay."
Yang Qi immediately complied, soothing An An while gently holding its body steady to prevent it from struggling during the injection.
With practiced hands, Dr. Li quickly prepared the medication and administered the injection.
Soon, An An’s convulsions stopped. Its breathing, though still faint, was no longer erratic as it slipped into a medically induced light coma.
Just then, the zookeeper, Xiaowang, wheeled over the special animal Transport Cage, which was already lined with a soft cushion.
The three of them carefully moved An An into the cage.
"I’ll take him to the Veterinary Station," Dr. Li said, picking up his medical bag.
"I’ll go too," the zookeeper added.
"I’ll stay."
Yang Qi said with a serious expression, looking toward the elevated walkway. It was still bustling with voices, the crowd completely oblivious to the dangerous scene that had just unfolded below.
"The person who fed him might still be here. Besides, we need to tighten security in this area and do a thorough check to see if any of the other red pandas have eaten anything they shouldn’t have!"
"Alright, I’ll leave this to you." Dr. Li nodded. "Xiaowang, let’s go."
The two of them wheeled the Transport Cage away, quickly leaving through a staff-only path.
Yang Qi stood his ground and keyed his walkie-talkie.
"Control, this is Yang Qi. An An from the Panda Hall has been rushed to the Veterinary Station by Dr. Li and a zookeeper for emergency treatment. We found clear evidence of improper feeding on-site—suspected chocolate and raisins."
"Requesting immediate security reinforcement at the Panda Hall walkway to strictly prohibit any feeding! Also, notify the relevant personnel to conduct emergency health checks on all the red pandas."
"Copy that! Security has been dispatched as reinforcement, and we’ve notified the Panda Hall staff to conduct a full inspection."
After ending the call, Yang Qi didn’t leave.
He stood inside the enclosure, looking at the remaining red pandas.
Thankfully, while the others were a bit agitated, their behavior, breathing, and appetite were all mostly normal, with no obvious signs of poisoning.
Only then did Yang Qi leave the enclosure and walk up to the elevated path.
Two guards, having received the alert, had already run over, panting. They began loudly telling visitors to stop trying to feed the animals and set up a temporary barricade, warning them not to get close to the gaps in the railing.
Yang Qi walked along the path, meticulously inspecting it inch by inch.
In a gap in the railing directly above where An An had collapsed, his sharp eyes spotted half a wrapper stuck in the crevice. It bore the logo of a famous chocolate brand.
He immediately used a pair of tweezers to retrieve it and placed it in an evidence bag.
Nearby, he also found a few shriveled fruit bits that looked like raisins.
The evidence was undeniable.
Yang Qi keyed his walkie-talkie again. "Control, I’ve found the food that An An ingested. I recommend an immediate park-wide broadcast to reiterate the ban on feeding, and to inform the public that a red panda is currently undergoing emergency treatment after eating food fed by a visitor."
"Also, have temporary protective netting or additional warning signs installed immediately at all exhibits with elevated walkways or large gaps in the railings."
"Copy! I’ll report to the Zoo director immediately and get the emergency broadcast and temporary protective measures started."
「A few minutes later.」
The park-wide broadcast, which had been playing cheerful music and fun animal facts, suddenly went silent.
Then, a solemn voice echoed throughout the entire Zoo.
"Attention, all visitors! Attention, all visitors!"
"This is an emergency announcement: In the red panda exhibit, a red panda has been poisoned and is currently undergoing emergency treatment. This was caused by a visitor who illicitly fed the animal food containing items such as chocolate and raisins."
"We must once again issue a solemn reminder: For your safety, the safety of others, and most importantly, the health of our animals, please strictly adhere to park regulations. Do not feed any animal outside food or foreign objects."
"The Zoo has increased security patrols in the relevant areas. Any violations of the feeding ban will be handled with the utmost seriousness, and we reserve the right to pursue legal action."
"Please be a courteous visitor and respect life. Thank you for your cooperation."
The broadcast repeated three times.
The once-boisterous park fell quiet for a moment.
The smiles vanished from many visitors’ faces, replaced by looks of shock and astonishment.
On the walkway of the Panda Hall, a few children who had been secretly tossing snacks down were stopped and lectured by their parents.
In other exhibit areas, hands that had been itching to toss food were quietly withdrawn.
Yang Qi stood at the edge of the walkway, listening to the broadcast. He looked down at the remaining, unharmed red pandas in the enclosure below and let out a small sigh of relief.
...
A little after two in the afternoon, a message came over the walkie-talkie.
The Veterinary Station reported that after emergency induced vomiting, a stomach pump, an antidote injection, and IV fluids, An An was no longer in critical condition. However, his liver and kidney levels were still abnormal, and he would require close observation for at least a week.
Meanwhile, checks on the other red pandas revealed no signs of poisoning.

「The third day of the National Day holiday.」
The weather was still clear and sunny, but the heat seemed to have subsided a bit. The gentle breeze carried a faint, almost unnoticeable chill.
