Chapter 3786: Four Elemental Affinities
Chapter 3786: Four Elemental Affinities
The shock caused by Little Bull’s vitality assessment had yet to fade when he was escorted toward the next testing area.
Even after the shattered formation plate had been carried away and replaced, conversations continued throughout the assessment grounds. The elders seated on the upper observation levels were no longer paying attention to the other recruits.
Their eyes followed Little Bull wherever he went.
Many had initially dismissed him after seeing his rough clothes, simple speech, and complete lack of Qi compatibility. Now those same elders were discussing him with expressions ranging from curiosity to outright excitement.
Elder He Jian found himself surrounded as several elders who had barely acknowledged him before were now approaching one after another.
"Old He, where exactly did you find that boy?" one elder asked.
"Which clan does he belong to?" another questioned immediately.
"He must have some hidden lineage."
"Is he a descendant of a body cultivation family?"
"Perhaps a bloodline left behind by an ancient expert?"
Questions came from every direction while Elder He Jian stroked his beard helplessly.
"I’ve already said it several times." He sighed. "He’s a commoner."
The surrounding elders stared at him before a tall elder with bronze skin snorted. "A commoner? You expect us to believe that?"
He Jian shrugged.
"The village records and the villagers’ testimonies show he was found abandoned at the gates of Honey God Village as an infant."
This caused the elders to pause and one of them narrowed his eyes. "An orphan?"
"Yes." Elder He Jian nodded.
Another elder immediately leaned forward. "Then his parents are unknown?"
"Correct."
Hearing that, the discussion intensified immediately.
"If his origins are unknown, then there is every possibility."
"He might be the child of wandering experts."
"Or descendants of an ancient bloodline."
"Perhaps a hidden physique that was never discovered."
A white-haired elder stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Many powerful cultivators abandon their descendants for various reasons. Especially body cultivators. Some of their training methods are cruel enough that they leave children in mortal settlements to fend for themselves."
Several elders nodded as the possibility was entirely reasonable. After all, a physique capable of generating that level of vitality should not appear casually.
One of the body cultivation elders finally spoke. The man was enormous and even sitting down, he appeared larger than most people standing while his exposed arms looked like forged metal.
"I don’t care where he comes from." the elder stated bluntly. "If that vitality assessment wasn’t a mistake, then the boy’s body cultivation potential is absurd."
Several body cultivation elders nearby nodded in agreement.
A woman wearing crimson robes folded her arms. "I felt the vitality fluctuations myself. It wasn’t an illusion. The formation truly reached its limit."
Another elder added quietly. "And he is still a mortal."
Those words caused the group to fall silent briefly. That was the truly terrifying part. If Little Bull had already been a body cultivator, the result would have been extraordinary. And if he had already entered the Immortal Realm, it would have been impressive.
Yet Little Bull had no cultivation. None whatsoever. His body had achieved that level entirely through natural growth. That realization alone made many elders feel their hearts stir.
"He has potential."
"A lot of it."
"We should keep watching."
"He hasn’t been tested completely yet."
The elders gradually calmed themselves. Several body cultivation elders who had originally planned to leave the assessment early due to there being no suitable recruits now remained seated.
Their eyes followed Little Bull’s figure carefully and far below, the man remained completely unaware of the storm he had caused. Or at least that was what everyone believed. Lin Mu simply maintained the simple expression of an honest village youth while following the Junior Elder toward the next assessment area.
This section contained even more recruits than the previous one.
Rows of formation platforms were arranged neatly throughout the hall while disciples recorded results continuously. Unlike the vitality test, this assessment was familiar to almost every cultivator.
Elemental affinity testing.
Most recruits paid great attention to this stage. After all, elemental affinities often determined future cultivation paths.
Little Bull looked around curiously.
"What does this one do?" he asked.
The Junior Elder was far more patient with him now than before. "Elemental affinity assessment."
"Oh." Little Bull nodded.
A few nearby disciples listened quietly while the Junior Elder continued explaining. "It measures your affinity toward the elements."
"Why?"
"So we know what you are naturally suited for."
Little Bull scratched his head. "If I don’t know what that means, does it matter?"
Several disciples nearby couldn’t help but laugh.
The Junior Elder himself smiled. "It matters. Trust me."
Little Bull nodded obediently while the line moved steadily. One recruit stepped forward as a green light appeared. "Wood affinity."
Another produced blue. "Water affinity."
A third generated brown. "Earth affinity."
The process was simple and straightforward. Most people only possessed one natural affinity. Dual affinities appeared occasionally, while triple affinities were rare enough to attract attention.
The observers on the upper levels barely reacted to most results. They had seen countless assessments over the years, so only unusual talents truly interested them. Eventually Little Bull’s turn arrived.
The Junior Elder gestured toward the platform. "Place your hand there."
Little Bull obeyed and Lin Mu himself was curious. The result genuinely interested him as before forming his cores, he had possessed natural affinity toward Earth and Metal. Later he had completed Fire and Water cores as well.
The transformation had fundamentally altered his body and even Lin Mu did not know how the formation would interpret those changes. More importantly, he wasn’t sure how the Abyssal Horizon Veil Seal would affect the results. The seal hid Qi but elemental affinity was something entirely different.
Little Bull placed his hand upon the formation plate as the array activated and the runes illuminated. Energy circulated through the platform as everyone waited for the results. One second passed, then another but nothing happened.
The formation seemed to be analyzing him. Then suddenly, a yellow light appeared as several disciples nodded.
"Metal affinity."
It was perfectly normal.
Then a brown light emerged beside it as the room grew quieter.
"Dual affinity?"
Several observers looked over and before anyone could react further, a red light appeared. This time conversations stopped entirely.
’Triple affinity?’ A few people gasped as that alone was enough to attract attention.
Yet the formation wasn’t finished and a few moments later, a fourth light slowly emerged. Blue... Water affinity.
Four colors now shone simultaneously above the platform: Yellow, Brown, Red and Blue.
Metal, Earth, Fire and Water affinities showed their presence and the assessment hall fell silent. Every recruit stopped what they were doing while the disciples recording results froze.
