Chapter 2799 Start Of The Chaos

2799  Start Of The Chaos

Most cultivators assumed the delays were normal. Since no one knew anyone else's schedule, there had been no reason to question it.

Had Lin Mu not informed them of the Order's intentions, they would have remained ignorant until it was too late.

They would have been caught completely unaware.

"This guy!" one of the cultivators wearing blue robes exclaimed upon seeing the deacon. "I've been wanting to bash this fucker's face in since the moment I saw him." Without hesitation, the man strode toward the deacon.

"You! What do you think—"

Before the deacon could even finish his sentence, a fist smashed into his face.

THUD

The deacon slammed into the wall and slid down, immediately knocked out from the sheer force of the blow. He was only equivalent to the Second Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm, while the man who had punched him was already a Fourth Tribulation Stage immortal.

SPIT

"Weak." The man sneered, looking down at the unconscious deacon and spitting on his face.

"Haha, nice punch!" another cultivator laughed, clearly satisfied with the sight.

"Let's go," Lin Mu said firmly, stepping out of the lodge.

Out in the street, dozens of other cultivators had already assembled. Several guards lay around them—either unconscious or very dead. Some were little more than pulpy heaps where they had landed.

None of the guards had been able to raise an alarm, thanks to the arrays having been quietly disabled earlier by Lin Mu.

"Cultivators!" Lin Mu called out loudly, his voice echoing through the still air. "It's time for us to leave this vile place!"

"YEAH!" a chorus of cheers erupted from the assembled crowd. Everyone had been yearning to leave for weeks, and now that moment had arrived.

Hundreds of cultivators filled the street. Oddly enough, no one from the Order had noticed yet. Or perhaps no one was left to notice—most of the Order's personnel were either unconscious or already dead.

"It's time to start," Lin Mu said, producing a small formation disc from his spatial ring. "Everyone get ready to fly to the teleportation gate."

With that, he pressed the disc.

SHUA

The formation disc released a pulse that shimmered briefly before vanishing into the atmosphere.

A moment later, the first eruption came.

BOOM!

About a kilometer away, a fiery explosion erupted as one of the churches was reduced to rubble.

But that was merely the beginning.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Three more explosions followed in rapid succession as additional churches detonated in pillars of fire and smoke. The people inside had no warning—there was no time to react. They were obliterated instantly.

WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH

The cultivators shot into the air, flying toward the teleportation gate. At the same time, the chaos began in earnest.

"Look!"

"Who's that?!"

"IT'S THE HERETICS!"

It didn't take long for the Order's remaining members to notice. After all, flight within the city was strictly forbidden. And now, hundreds of cultivators were breaking that rule all at once.

"Stop them!" a guard shouted, rushing forward in desperation.

SHING

Unfortunately for him, a sword slash cleaved him in half before he could even raise his weapon.

Lin Mu didn't spare him a glance. He slashed several more times, his sword flashing through the air.

SHING SHING SHING SHING

Each slash tore through the sky like thunder, killing dozens of guards and clergy who had rushed toward them in vain attempts to fight back. Their struggle was completely meaningless.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

As if that wasn't enough, more explosions shook the city. They struck without pattern or warning, catching others completely off guard.

Those who had intended to chase the fleeing cultivators were now forced to turn back and deal with the burning churches.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

The blasts continued—each one tearing apart another sacred structure. Every five to ten seconds, another explosion shook the foundations of the Order's stronghold. The randomness of it all prevented any coordinated response.

Communication was a disaster. Any informants sent to report back were eliminated before they could say a word. The chaos caused by the detonations provided the perfect cover.

Lin Mu and his vast army of cultivators moved swiftly through the city. In under twenty minutes, they had covered half the distance to the teleportation gate. In that time, nearly thirty churches had been reduced to rubble.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

BOOM BOOM BOOM

BOOM BOOM BOOM

Explosion after explosion rolled through the city, plunging it deeper into pandemonium. The core of the Order's power—its temples, churches, and cathedrals—was crumbling.

And they could do nothing.

Lin Mu and the cultivators slaughtered their way forward, steadily approaching the central teleportation tower. Within twenty minutes, they had reached its outer perimeter.

For the Order, those twenty minutes had been devastating.

By now, word had finally reached the fortress.

"It's the cultivators!"

"They're behind the explosions!"

"GET THEM!"

"I WANT THEIR HEADS!"

Several inquisitors began mobilizing. They stormed out of their fortress, ready to unleash their fury.

Unfortunately, they were far too slow.

KABOOM!

A massive explosion erupted within the fortress itself. Half the structure vanished into flames, engulfing everyone inside. Body parts rained from the sky, and only the strongest managed to survive.

"ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Screams of pain echoed through the city. Some Fourth Tribulation Stage inquisitors, along with a handful of Third Stage ones, emerged from the inferno—wounded but alive.

But they were far from unscathed.

"WHO DARES?!" a booming voice roared.

A bald man clad in shimmering armor flew out of the blaze, his body surrounded by turbulent energy. The very air trembled around him.

"Head Inquisitor!" someone shouted in recognition.

"What's happening?! Who's behind this?!" he demanded furiously.

"The heretics!" they answered.

"AHHHHHHHHH! I'll kill them all!" he screamed, blasting off toward the cultivators' Qi signatures.

Though they were still some distance away, he had no trouble locating them. His cultivation allowed him to sense such powerful Qi fluctuations—and none of the Order's regulars cultivated Qi like this.
