"Good boy, Cook. Just a little longer."
Gu Ning patted the little dog’s fur, checking it over. Some spots were still damp.
She held the whimpering little dog and soothed it in a low voice. Cook lingered in her arms for a moment, then shot a glance at the Beastman holding the blow-dryer before reluctantly shuffling over.
BANG BANG BANG!
Just then, a harsh knocking at the door drew everyone’s attention.
"WOOF!" Cook immediately retreated in front of Gu Ning, growling low at the door.
Gu Ning unconsciously pulled Cook closer as she edged toward Philinos. Philinos moved to partially shield her, his hand resting on the knife at his waist.
"Open up! Administrative inspection!"
Hearing the voice outside, the Beastman attendant’s expression changed slightly. He hurriedly pushed the three other Beastmen, saying, "Quick, hide!"
The sturdy Sea Clan Beastman said, "Why’d I gotta hide? I ain’t even done brushin’ the doggy’s fur yet."
The smaller one said, "I wanna... wanna sleep with Miemie... sleep..."
The third one was focused on cleaning dog fur off a comb, completely oblivious to the commotion around him.
The Beastman attendant was sweating with anxiety as he shoved them. "Sleep, my ass! All of you, over the wall and out..."
The word "out" had barely left his lips when the door was swiped open from the outside.
Gu Ning and the others looked over. A dense crowd of Beast Police stood at the door. At the very front were the front desk clerk, holding a room keycard with a miserable look on his face, and the same police officer Gu Ning’s group had just met at the station not long ago.
Seeing this familiar face, Gu Ning and the others froze.
The lead officer hadn’t expected to run into them here again, either. His eyes swept over Gu Ning, and he raised his eyebrows in slight surprise. A moment later, his expression turned serious as he pulled out his badge for everyone in the room to see. "Administrative inspection. Everyone, stand still and don’t move."
The Beastman attendant hurried forward, grabbing the doorframe to block them. He forced a smile. "Didn’t you already come by to inspect during the day? It’s very late now. You’ll disturb the honored female’s rest."
As he spoke, he shot a meaningful look at the front desk clerk.
The clerk returned the look, giving him a slight shake of his head.
The lead officer glanced past the Beastman attendant and said, "We received a report that you’ve been hiring staff improperly and are running an illicit operation."
The Beastman attendant retorted, "An illicit operation? Our hotel is one of the largest in the West District. Don’t your patrols come by almost every day? Have you ever found a problem?"
The lead officer said, "If there’s a report, we have to investigate. Obstruct me again, and that’s obstruction of justice, punishable by a minimum of ten days in detention."
With that, he pushed the Beastman attendant aside and led his men straight into the room.
"Miss Female, we meet again."
The lead officer walked up to Gu Ning and gave her a nod.
’This female’s scent has changed. That thick, suffocating stench of a male wolf has faded quite a bit. Her head is wrapped in a bath towel, so I still can’t see her face, but I know who she is from the Birdman and the Mixed Breed next to her, not to mention the guy with the black and blue face.’
Gu Ning cleared her throat and said in a lowered voice, "What a coincidence."
The lead officer chuckled. His gaze shifted to the three Beastmen being restrained by his officers, then flickered between them and the female, a knowing look in his eyes.
’When this female was at the station earlier, I guessed from her scent that she must be in heat.’
’Her two mates are still in custody at the station. Clearly, the other three males with her aren’t satisfying her.’
’One of the three is a mentally regressed Mixed Breed, and another is too weak. And the one with the most combat power looks so sullen and cold, he probably has zero charm.’

The officer’s eyes swept over the two Sea Clan Beastmen, then glanced at the Birdman standing there like an icicle.

"Identification. Work permits."
An officer demanded sternly from the three Beastmen.
"My terminal ain’t here," the sturdy Sea Clan Beastman said. "I turned it in. I can’t reveal client information."
The smaller one nodded. "Right, right."
The Beastman attendant ran over. "That’s right, that’s right, we can’t reveal client information. Officer, let’s talk outside. It’s not right for you to disturb our guests like this."
The lead officer ignored him and walked over to continue questioning the three men. "Show me your work permits."
The sturdy one said, "They ain’t given ’em to us yet."
The Beastman attendant moved to cover his mouth, but it was too late.
The officer shot a look at the Beastman attendant and the front desk clerk, who was wiping away sweat. "Have you signed employment contracts?"
The clerk chuckled nervously. "Signed..."
The sturdy one piped up, "We just got here. The boss said he’d have us sign after we finish trainin’ and pass the probation period."
The Beastman attendant quickly interjected, "We were just about to sign them..."
The officer said, "Excellent. Cuff them all."
The Beastman attendant blocked his path. "Officer, Officer, we were here to groom the dog, not as escorts!"
As he spoke, he looked at Gu Ning with pleading eyes.
Gu Ning nodded vigorously.
"Didn’t she call us here to be her escorts?" the Beastman who had been silent the whole time suddenly spoke up.
The other two Sea Clan Beastmen immediately slapped the sturdy one’s fleshy chest and chimed in, "Yeah! We’re here to sleep with Miemie!"
The front desk clerk covered his face while the Beastman attendant crossed his arms and sighed. ’How did we end up with these three idiots?’
The officer scoffed. "Cuff them!"
Gu Ning started to sweat as she saw the Beast Police cuffing the two Sea Clan Beastmen and the attendant with silver bracelets.
She tugged on Raphaelnos’s fingers and looked up at him. ’Didn’t you say it was legal?!’
Philinos frowned. "...I didn’t know they hadn’t even signed employment contracts."
"Miss Female," the officer said, returning to stand before Gu Ning with a smirk. "You’ll have to come with us."
Gu Ning: "..."
"She wasn’t the one who called for the escorts," Lanuo spoke up.
The officer paused. "Then who was?"
Gu Ning’s eyes flickered up, then quickly darted down again.
"I was," Philinos said.
Gu Ning grabbed the Little Fairy Bird’s wrist. ’Why did you say that?!’
"I called them," she said to the officer.
’She couldn’t bear the thought of Philinos being detained, too. The laws in this world were clearly much harsher on males.’
The officer looked at Gu Ning, then said to the bird, "Then you’ll come with us."
"Go on, go on," Lanuo said, waving at Philinos. "I can stay here and watch over her."
Gu Ning shot Lanuo a glare and grabbed Philinos’s wrist. "We’ll go together."
Philinos glanced down at the hand holding his. "It’s late. You should get some rest. I wasn’t aware of the circumstances. According to the 12th District’s regulations, I won’t be detained. I just have to go make a statement, and I’ll be back soon."
"Don’t worry, Ah Mo and his men are standing guard nearby. You and Cook will be perfectly safe," Philinos said in a low voice.
Lanuo said to Gu Ning, "Why would you go with them? If you run into Alex and he finds out you landed in the clinker for hiring escorts, I think he’d beat me to death."
Hearing that, Gu Ning immediately dropped the idea of going with Philinos. ’If she really ran into them at the station, she might as well just dig a hole on the spot and bury herself in it.’
She pressed her hands together at her lips, looking up at him with pleading eyes, and whispered, "Please, please."
