"Wolf Team, you’re injured?"
Gu Ning’s gaze fell on Vine’s injured right arm. A fresh, red gash ran diagonally across nearly his entire right forearm. The flesh was torn open, looking like a wound from a wild beast’s claws, similar to the one on Philinos’s chest. Startled, she stood up and walked toward him.
The moment she stood, Vine paused his bandaging. He glanced up at her before lowering his head to continue wrapping the bandage, his movements slowing.
Gu Ning was stopped in her tracks by his cold gaze, which seemed to warn her away. She halted mid-stride.
At this moment, Wolf Team carried an air that pushed everyone away. Silent and stone-faced, he was even harder to approach than Philinos, who was quiet on a normal day.
’Wolf Team is probably still mad and doesn’t want to talk to me,’ she thought.
Gu Ning was already a little afraid of him; now, she was even more hesitant to get close.
Seeing that she couldn’t help, and that he clearly didn’t want her to, Gu Ning hesitated for a moment before turning to leave. ’Forget it. I’ll talk to him after he’s cooled down.’
After just two steps, Gu Ning sighed to herself and stopped again.
’If I don’t clear this up with Wolf Team now, it’ll only be harder later.’
Her period would be over by tomorrow at the latest. Wolf Team had told her he still had a mission in Zone 15, so he probably wouldn’t be following their group to Zone 5.
After all, that "team application" wasn’t really a team application. He wanted to leave with the group mostly because he thought she had accepted him as her mate.
Gu Ning turned slightly, sneaking a glance at Wolf Team while rehearsing what she would say in her head.
Cook saw that Gu Ning was awake, spat out the meat bone in his mouth, and started to pounce over to greet her, but Barto grabbed him by the scruff of his neck.
"Awooo..." Cook whined in dissatisfaction but obediently sat back down. He tilted his head, staring at Gu Ning and Vine, his expression as if he were deep in thought.
Barto watched Vine’s pathetic display and sneered inwardly. ’Because of Kaper, Cook feels a stronger sense of belonging to Vine’s Wolf Pack. But this alpha wolf is too dense to take advantage of it. Gu Ning’s personality is so direct; his straightforward approach will only scare her off. And acting like this now will just push her further away.’
Just then, as Gu Ning stood slightly behind Vine, wondering how to talk to him, she heard him say, "Come here. Help me with this bandage."
Vine tilted his head slightly. His voice was devoid of emotion, but his powerful presence made it sound like a command.
Gu Ning looked at his broad, straight back and felt a little intimidated.
After hesitating for a moment, Gu Ning walked to Vine’s side.
Vine had almost finished wrapping the wound; it just needed a knot to be tied.
Gu Ning reached for the bandage in his hand. She inevitably brushed against his warm fingers, and in an instant, Vine pulled his hand back.
Before Gu Ning could grab the bandage, he had let go. Half of the neatly wrapped dressing came loose, and she had to scramble to re-wrap it for him.
Vine watched her quietly. Neither of them spoke.
"There." Gu Ning tied a neat bow on his arm, then took a step back, escaping his somewhat oppressive aura.
Vine lowered his gaze to the knot on his arm and spoke slowly, "You’re good at bandaging."
After he spoke, silence fell between them again.
Gu Ning felt like she was back when she had first met Vine. No, this was even more uncomfortable.
’I should just hurry up and resolve this thing with Vine.’
With that thought, she began, "Wolf Team, about that team application..."
"Eat first," Vine interrupted, standing up. His tall frame loomed over Gu Ning like a wall.
Gu Ning’s gaze shifted from looking straight ahead to looking up at him. She still wanted to clear the air first, but before she could speak, Vine turned and walked away, looking like he had no intention of talking to her at all.

’He’s really angry.’
Watching Vine’s retreating back, Gu Ning felt a little discouraged. ’Why is this wolf so difficult?’
"Can’t handle him?"
Just then, Barto’s voice drawled out.
Gu Ning saw him sitting there, twirling his chopsticks like he was watching a show. His taunt stirred up her fighting spirit and competitive streak. She snatched the chopsticks from his hand, plopped down at the table, and said, "Who says I can’t handle him? Just you wait. I’m going to eat first!"
Seeing her spirits lift, Barto chuckled. He pushed a peeled egg toward her and pulled his chair closer, lazily draping an arm over the back of her chair. "Why bother explaining so much to him? After we leave Zone 15, you might never see him again. His residency isn’t in Zone 5."
Gu Ning picked up the egg and took a large bite. "Even if I don’t see him again," she said, her mouth full, "I have to clear it up. It’s a misunderstanding."
