Chapter 2198 - 2199: The Cousin Is a Capitalist’s Daughter 18
Chapter 2198: Chapter 2199: The Cousin Is a Capitalist’s Daughter 18
When Zhang Yu got off the tractor, it felt like an out-of-body experience. He knew this road was difficult, truly bumpy in all kinds of ways, but never imagined it could be this rough.
Zhang Hui’s face was also pale, "It’s really bumpy."
While traveling by car earlier, they knew this stretch was bumpy, but at least cars have shock absorbers. The tractor didn’t, and while the small potholes were manageable, the large ones almost forced everyone to detach from the tractor.
It was truly a sensation of flying up and then dropping down. The only consolation was that the driver was aware of the bad road conditions and drove with caution. Even so, those sitting outside the tractor could accidentally fall off if not careful.
It frightened many of the intellectual youth, as falling off the tractor could easily lead to accidents.
Everyone preferred to squeeze together, even if it meant being hot, at least it was better than falling off.
Not only were the intellectual youth frightened, even the driver was scared too; if an intellectual youth really got into an accident, they wouldn’t get away with it. So even though they were in a hurry, they still drove more gently.
Fortunately, the youth who fell off was quite lucky and didn’t get hurt; otherwise, it would have been a big issue.
Once all the passengers had disembarked, the tractor driver immediately started the vehicle and sped away.
"Just left like that?" Despite people grumbling about the bumpy tractor ride, seeing the ox carts not far away made them feel reluctant to see the tractor speed off.
"The tractor driver said, that we were lucky to get a tractor ride; when we arrive at the village, there might not be any tractors."
"Exactly, the driver of my tractor said the same. I was thinking how is that possible?"
Everyone thought the driver’s words were just scare tactics. If a breakdown happened midway, the commune wouldn’t quickly stop so many tractors. Yes, it was just a scare tactic.
Zhang Yu didn’t listen to their chatter and after informing the other intellectual youth going to the same village, he took Zhang Hui and headed towards the post office.
Zhang Hui had just recovered and was being dragged along, "Where are we going?"
"To the post office. Aren’t we supposed to receive our stuff here?" Knowing it was impossible to prepare quilts and winter clothes thoroughly, Zhang Yu decisively arranged for everything to be mailed to the post office by the end of August.
As for the things prepared for Zhang Hui, he packed and mailed them all, feeling grateful throughout the journey that they had been mailed ahead – otherwise, the hardships of the original sender would be repeated.
"While there’s a vehicle to take us back to the village, we might as well take everything with us." Zhang Yu said swiftly.
"While they’re still resting, let’s collect our things first." Zhang Yu increased his pace towards the post office.
Zhang Hui responded with an "Oh," recalling the three large packages they had mailed earlier, feeling almost overwhelmed, "There’s so much."
"Yes, so much, and this is just part of what was mailed." Zhang Yu looked puzzled at Zhang Hui, "Did you really not know anything about your clothes?"
"But the clothes Zhang Tao and the rest of us have are not as many as yours."
"Your winter clothes, even if they aren’t made new each year, at least the cotton is redone annually and the clothes altered. Mine were never a good fit, that winter jacket was altered and given to me by mom, I’ve worn it for many years, and it’s gotten quite stiff."
"Forget it, there’s no point in telling you, you wouldn’t understand anyhow, you wouldn’t know." Zhang Yu waved it off, "The point is, you’re really fortunate."
"Sis, do you really think I’m fortunate?" Zhang Hui moved her mouth and softly asked.
Fortunate? Zhang Yu looked at Zhang Hui too; indeed, no one could remain composed after discovering their true identity, "The life you live is the one I’ve always yearned for, even having half of what you have would make me happy."
"But of course, I am young, my horizon is limited, and my experiences are few; perhaps some live well, others not so much."
"It’s like the stories of landlords and wealthy people, how they lived, the reality I don’t know and don’t want to know; it’s not my life." Zhang Yu walked leisurely forward.
Zhang Hui followed behind, her lips tightly pursed. Naturally, Zhang Yu could say such things; once she was the child of servants, she’d always be a servant. Didn’t you see how adeptly she worked?
But Zhang Hui was undoubtedly the young lady whose life was wonderfully comfortable. She truly didn’t understand. Clearly, they were all the children of their parents. Why did she have to live such a life, while her siblings could live lives without worry?
Oh, they have even less to worry about, being sent to the countryside to work on farms; now she had to become a farmer, and heavens, how could it be like this, the more Zhang Hui thought, the angrier she became.
The discontent in her heart grew again. She certainly wouldn’t blame the Ge family, knowing her parents had no choice but to go on a long journey taking her, a child; it was truly difficult.
She resented the Zhang Family, especially Xue Lei. Upon later investigation, she found the person she called Grandma was her biological mother’s nanny. Xue Lei and her mother grew up together and must have had a good relationship; otherwise, she wouldn’t have entrusted her with her child.
Though Zhang Hui didn’t know what her parents had left for the Zhang Family, it must have been enough for a good life, yet when the time came for sending children to the countryside, they pushed her forward. Did they really honor their promises to her parents?
They took the money but didn’t fulfill their agreements, outrageous, truly outrageous. When her parents come looking, she must tell them about the Zhang Family’s attitude towards her.
And Zhang Yu, don’t think that just because she took care of her here in the Northeast, she didn’t profit from it. Yes, it was exactly that.
Busy heading to the post office to pick up parcels, Zhang Yu wasn’t aware someone had already planned to make sure her parents wouldn’t reward the Zhang Family, even if she was aware she wouldn’t care, better to focus on her endeavors than to eye the recompenses of the Ge Family.
She rushed into the post office, "Hello, I’m here to collect Zhang Hui’s packages." She glanced back at the dawdling Zhang Hui, sighed helplessly, "You really should hurry; we still need to go to the village."
Zhang Hui responded with an "Oh," remembering they still had work to be done. From her backpack, she retrieved her ID and handed it to the clerk, who after checking it thoroughly, said, "Your luggage has arrived."
From the warehouse behind, three large parcels were brought out, "These are your two’s belongings, right?" Being the New Intellectual Youth from the South, worrying about the cold in the Northeast, prepared more luggage was normal.
"No," Zhang Yu laughed and shook her head, pointing at the smallest parcel, "This is my package, the remaining two belong to my sister."
Zhang Yu gestured towards Zhang Hui, stunning everyone. Despite being two people’s luggage, her sister’s belongings were too much, "Your family didn’t prepare quilts and winter clothes for you?"
"Mine weren’t prepared in time, and need to be mailed later." Zhang Yu helped Zhang Hui move the largest package together, "You wait over there; I’ll move the rest."
