Chapter 440: Establishing The Commercial Law ( 5 )
Hearing her husband’s words, Xue Ya’er nodded. "I will inform her. For now, all we can do is wait."
"The military report should have reached the Capital. If the Emperor knows what’s good for him, he won’t delay the matter of appointing the new Prefect," Lu Qianxuan said.
"I hope he won’t scheme against us anymore," Xue Ya’er sighed.
Lu Qianxuan said nothing when he heard his wife’s words. It was impossible for the Emperor to let them go now that they had managed to fulfill the Imperial Edict and gained more prestige among the commoners.
With his current military power and reputation, it was possible for him to overthrow the Emperor and eliminate the Imperial family.
But without a righteous reason, even if he obtained the throne, he wouldn’t be able to sit in that position securely. What’s more, those princes and noble families wouldn’t stand by and do nothing if he really attacked the Capital.
This matter couldn’t be rushed, and he needed to plan more carefully.
Xue Ya’er stayed inside her husband’s tent for 2 hours before leaving with Ah Jun.
Not long after, Lu Qianxuan summoned Gao Yan and handed him a stack of papers. "Battalion Commander Gao, I need you to go to the city and find the Chief Clerk."
"Tell him to announce these trading laws and regulations to the people. Also, send 2 trusted people to supervise him. If he dares to accept bribes or play favorites, throw him into the dungeon and teach him a lesson."
Gao Yan accepted the papers and cupped his fists. "This subordinate understands."
After sending him away, Lu Qianxuan summoned Wen Liyan to discuss their next plan.
Now that the food and water shortages were temporarily resolved, they needed to find more materials to rebuild the city. Their flour supply was limited, and rebuilding the city walls consumed a great deal of it.
If they could find other materials to replace flour as a binding agent, it would save them a lot of money and trouble.
Yao Zhi finished her sword practice inside the shared manor while they were racking their brains. After wiping the sweat from her forehead, she stored her longsword in her system’s storage.
She went to take a shower and then sat on the couch. Opening her system panel, she checked on the system grassland. There, a huge pile of rock salt sat in an area far from the horse-breeding grounds.
Although she had spent a huge amount of merit points recently, the results were worth it.
The salt mine was already being mined automatically by the system. The jade mine at home could also be developed as soon as she returned to the village.
Once the plantation in Northeast City was established, the city would no longer have to worry about food shortages.
As she thought about the countless tasks waiting for her, she couldn’t help rubbing her temples.
"System, how much rock salt has been mined so far?" she asked.
A blue screen immediately appeared before her.
"Host, approximately 30 tons of rock salt have been extracted and stored in the designated area."
Yao Zhi was stunned. "The system has mined so much in just 3 days?"
"Host, this is only the beginning. The mining efficiency will increase as the spiritual energy in the area increases," the system replied with a matter-of-fact tone.
Looking at the numbers displayed on the screen, Yao Zhi finally understood why the system had charged her 1.5 million merit points for this feature.
If ordinary people were tasked with mining such a massive deposit, it would likely take generations to achieve the same result.
"System, how much natural gas has been collected?"
"Host, the gas storage tanks currently contain enough natural gas to supply tens of thousands of households for several years."
Yao Zhi’s eyes brightened the moment she heard this. Compared to rock salt, she felt that the natural gas was even more valuable.
If she could find a safe way to utilize it in the future, it would become an important source of energy. Unfortunately, the current era lacks the technology needed to make full use of it.
Just as she was thinking about future plans, a familiar voice sounded behind her.
"Wife."
Yao Zhi turned around and saw Fu Chen’an walking toward her. A smile immediately appeared on her face. "Husband, are you done with your work?"
Fu Chen’an nodded and sat beside her. "The General and the military advisors are discussing the city’s reconstruction plans. There is nothing for me to do at the moment."
After a brief pause, he asked, "Wife, are you worried about something?"
Yao Zhi leaned on her husband’s shoulder and sighed.
"There are too many things that need to be done. The plantation, the salt workshop, the jade mine, the city reconstruction, and future development plans. Sometimes I feel as though there aren’t enough hours in the day."
Fu Chen’an chuckled softly at his wife’s words. His wife was probably the only person he knew who worried about having too many opportunities.
He reached out and gently held her hand. "Wife, no matter how important these matters are, they can’t all be completed in a single day. Take your time. Besides, you don’t have to carry everything by yourself."
Yao Zhi looked at him and smiled. "I know."
After they chatted for a while, Fu Chen’an went to take a shower while Yao Zhi went to cook. They had consumed a lot of the food she had prepared beforehand, and she needed to restock it.
While she spent a leisurely time with her husband inside the shared manor, the news of the trading regulations being established spread throughout Northeast City.
The merchants who had been worrying about where to start and whom to visit finally received some direction.
Without a Prefect, they had thought they would need to visit the General to discuss their business permits. But to visit the General, they would have to go to the military camp.
The military camp was an important place, so not everyone could enter. If they couldn’t even enter the camp, how could they visit the General?
