Chapter 492 - Do Not Expel Me
Chapter 492: Do Not Expel Me
“As everyone can see on the screen, Lin Fuxi was wearing a white baseball cap and dragging a pink suitcase with her into the Internet cafe. Now, I’m going to change into another camera,” Yu Hanxia said. “The one we saw just now was from the CCTV by the entrance. The next one will be above the cashier.”
With a single touch, the scene changed.
“From this angle, we can clearly see Lin Fuxi’s face,” Yu Hanxia said as she double-tapped her tablet to pause the video.
She then used her tablet pen to draw another red circle around Lin Fuxi’s face before zooming in by swiping her fingers out on the screen.
The zoom-in made it clearer for everyone to confirm the person on the tablet was indeed Lin Fuxi.
Those who were at the plaza saw it on the huge 4K screen while those that were still in class were watching the live stream on their phones.
Everyone could see what the screen at the plaza was showing, which was Lin Fuxi’s face.
“The time she entered the Internet cafe fits our time description,” Yu Hanxia explained. “However, it could be a coincidence. Perhaps she was there to surf the Internet, so we can’t simply come to a conclusion just based on our thoughts and this CCTV recording.”
Lin Fuxi was about to open her mouth to state that point, but Yu Hanxia was a step faster than her. The student had no choice but to shut her mouth back up.
“According to the recordings and data from the Internet cafe, we found out which computer Lin Fuxi was using there. Since the computers in the Internet cafe are for public use, they wipe all personal data of the previous user once the computer was shut down. However, we can restore the data with a program and get our hands on the website that she had been to. In the next scene, you will see her browsing history at the Internet cafe,” Yu Hanxia said and switched to the next scene. “According to the browsing history, Lin Fuxi logged onto Beijing University’s forum precisely at 3:41 p.m. Of course, we used certain programs to get our hands on Lin Fuxi’s login data. Since it’s wrong to pry into her password, we only got her login ID.”
Since the scene that Yu Hanxia had shown was a screen recording instead of a screenshot, it was impossible to photoshop it.
They weren’t giving Lin Fuxi any chance to counter their evidence.
Lin Fuxi was starting to get even more restless as she couldn’t find a way to clear her name.
She couldn’t even argue or prove them wrong.
The students from the Department of Computer Science started to talk about the programs that were mentioned by Yu Hanxia.
“I wonder what kind of programs they used. I’m really curious.”
“Well, I think we can do the same thing as well. I’m just wondering if the programs they mentioned are the same as the ones I’m thinking about now.”
“Hey, should we go and ask Tan Mo about it? Do you think she’ll help us to ask them about the programs?”
Back at Tan Mo and Lin Fuxi’s room, Yu Hanxia continued to explain, “However, we aren’t able to determine if Lin Fuxi set up a delay posting function for the photos to go online on the forum because there’s no monitoring software installed on the computer. Our programs aren’t able to determine if she did that or not. However, with all the evidence we have now, they are all pointing toward Lin Fuxi. I believe this is enough.”
“How can this be enough? There is barely any proof here!” Lin Fuxi was struggling.
“How can there be no proof? We don’t have evidence that you used the delay posting function, but we have proof that the ID who posted the photos belongs to you. That, my dear roommate, is the definitive proof we have.” Tan Mo sighed. “Didn’t I say this from the start? We are here to find out who the poster is. We don’t care if you had the delay posting function or not. Just the fact that you’re the poster is more than enough.”
“W-what if I say I’ve sold my ID to someone else?” Lin Fuxi still tried to lie her way out.
“There’s no fault with that. So, who did you sell your ID to?” Tan Mo asked with a smile.
“Heck! If you had really sold your ID, why did you keep it a secret? You could’ve just told us from the beginning,” Qin Muye scoffed. “You could’ve saved us all the time running around looking into this matter.”
“B-because I never thought the person who bought my ID would use it to do this to Tan Mo…”
This time, Lin Fuxi paid great attention to her choice of words.
Instead of using degrading terms, she decided to mention that the person was only targeting Tan Mo.
This would show that the poster only had some personal beef with Tan Mo.
“With how serious this became, I was afraid to say it…” Lin Fuxi lowered her head and spoke in a low voice. It was as if she was afraid of what was about to happen. “I was scared that you would blame me. Also, selling my ID isn’t something I’m proud of. I thought you guys would find out about the person who bought the ID instead of me…”
“I see.” Tan Mo nodded. “Well, now that everyone knows that you’ve sold your ID, why don’t you tell us who the person who bought it is?”
“I-I’ve never met her. All of our conversations were done online. There’s no need for us to meet for this…” Lin Fuxi suddenly realized that she might have found the perfect excuse for herself.
“Then, you must have the conversation to prove that, right?” Yu Hanxia coldly scoffed. “You better not say something like you’ve deleted the conversation.”
“My dear Lin Fuxi, I believe it’s time you stop lying.” Tan Mo shrugged. Even after all of Lin Fuxi’s efforts to persuade her, she didn’t buy her roommate’s story. “The nail in the coffin is the fact that you tried to delete the evidence from my laptop.”
“Lin Fuxi, even if you deny the fact that you are the poster, we still caught you red-handed trying to steal Tan Mo’s laptop,” Mr. Ji said in a cold tone.
“I didn’t!” Lin Fuxi shook her head but couldn’t find any more excuses.
The biggest reason was that everyone had heard her mumbles.
It was then Tan Mo cut the live feed off.
Her goal was to prove that Lin Fuxi was the one who posted the photos. The live stream was just a way to have more witnesses when Lin Fuxi confessed to it so that she could not pretend that she didn’t do anything later.
Now that Tan Mo had proved it, she didn’t want to show everyone what Lin Fuxi’s punishment would be.
She would, at the very least, let Lin Fuxi retain some of her dignity.
“We’ll discuss your punishment later,” Mr. Ji said. “You’ll hear from us tomorrow. You better be prepared for the worst.”
“No! Please! Don’t!” Lin Fuxi finally cried. “I wasn’t trying to steal Tan Mo’s laptop! I didn’t… Mr. Ji!”
No matter how much Lin Fuxi begged, all she got was the cold stare from everyone else.
She finally knew that she was doomed. “Please! I know I made a mistake! But please don’t expel me! I’m begging you!”
Lin Fuxi ran to Tan Mo and grabbed her hand. “Tan Mo. Please, you have to forgive me! I know I’ve done something I shouldn’t have! I promise you that I will never do it again!”
