Chapter 180 - : When Did I Lie to You?
Chapter 180: When Did I Lie to You?
If he had known that Tan Mo was a genius like that, he would never have looked down on her.
“Guo, you sure have kept your ace up your sleeve, huh?” Professor Liu sighed.
“Kept my ace up my sleeve?” Professor Guo laughed. “Do I look like a person who would do that? It’s true that she’s my student, but there’s no need for me to go introduce her around, is there? I mean, you never asked, so why should I tell you?”
HMPH! Professor Liu turned his head the other way.
Fortunately, Huang Mingshun’s mental strength was better than Tai Anjing’s and he did not break down because of the question.
He was determined to press the button first, whether he knew the answer or not.
However, despite his determination, he never pressed the buzzer first successfully once.
When the round ended, Tan Mo had a smirk on her face.
Tan Mo had been cultivating for 1,000 years, and there was no way that a mere mortal could actually be faster than she was. If they had been, then all her training would’ve gone to waste.
Of course, her immortality and cultivation that she’d accumulated for 1,000 years had not followed her to this incarnation, but she had already regained her healing ability, photographic memory, and fast reactions.
Both Huang Mingshun and Zhang Xiaosheng thought they were fast with their hands, but they were basically moving like a snail in Tan Mo’s eyes.
It was basically impossible for them to have a faster reaction time than she did.
Tan Mo was still a baby when she discovered that she still had her healing ability.
When she was in primary school, she found out that she had retained her photographic memory.
Now, she had regained her reflexes during this competition. After she realized what the Tsinghua University participants were trying to do and decided to completely focus on pressing the buzzer, her power had returned to her.
The moment she focused all her attention on pressing the buzzer, she realized the others were moving in slow motion, and she could see their movements clearly.
In the end, it was as if the others had almost stopped moving.
Tan Mo wondered if she’d regained her ability during the competition or had already awoken it a long time ago, but she had just never realized it. All she knew was that when she was completely focused on something, which was rare for her, everything would slow down from her perspective.
Her hyper-reaction was one of the abilities she had gained through hundreds of years of cultivation as a little snow fairy.
Now that she’d reincarnated, her abilities were slowly returning one by one.
She wondered if she would continue to rediscover her powers as life went on, but, at the moment, the three abilities she currently had were enough.
After being completely outplayed by Tan Mo for four straight rounds, the participants from Tsinghua University had completely lost their will to continue.
They didn’t even want to fight back anymore.
The same scenario kept repeating for the next four rounds.
After the tenth round had ended, the host was talking to someone through her earpiece.
After a while, the host finally announced, “According to the scoreboard, Beijing University is leading by a huge margin.”
Everyone in the hall had the same reaction when they heard that.
Um…a huge margin? Isn’t it more like the other teams haven’t gained a single point yet?
“Also, the first participant from Beijing University has won every round up until the tenth round,” the host continued. “Since the other teams don’t have any members to join the match anymore, we have decided to forfeit the rest of the match.”
They had no choice but to make such a decision as the other universities had no more members to send onto the stage.
Even if Tsinghua University still had members left, they wouldn’t want to participate any more after being embarrassed by Tan Mo throughout the whole competition.
“Now, let us have a look at the total score for this season of the Ancient Text Competition!” The host pointed at the main screen.
Despite knowing the results, everyone still turned their gazes toward the screen.
First place: Beijing University with 99 points.
Second place: Shuang University with 0 points.
Second place: Nan University with 0 points.
Second place: Tong University with 0 points.
Second place: Jiang University with 0 points.
Sixth place: Tsinghua University with -1 points.
Part of the audience burst into cheers immediately.
Most of the cheers were done by the participants and audience from Beijing University.
Since the hall was big and was mostly filled with students from Tsinghua University, their cheers were relatively quiet.
However, it didn’t affect the excitement.
They had achieved a complete victory.
Tsinghua University had been the victors for the past few years. However, they would only win by a small margin, with the remaining five universities just lacking a few points.
This year, Tsinghua University had placed in the last place with a -one score.
After being annoyed by the Tsinghua University for the past few years, Beijing University finally had the chance to emerge victoriously.
“Wherever Tan Mo goes, the enemies perish!”
“Wherever Tan Mo goes, the enemies perish!”
The crowd began to chant the slogan once again.
The chant got louder and louder every time until the hall was filled with it.
Students from Tsinghua University could not believe that Beijing University would actually show off on the former’s own campus.
As for Tan Mo, she was staring at the crowd dumbfoundedly.
Seriously, can you guys change the slogan?
That marked the end of the Ancient Text Competition.
There were no spectators from Shuang University, Nan University, Jiang University, and Tong University. The only students from those universities were the participants.
The participants from these universities were staring at the results with mixed feelings.
They’d gotten second place, which was already better than the past few years.
Usually, the first place would go to Tsinghua University and the second place to Beijing University.
The rest would take up the third to sixth places, with Jiang University coming last in the previous year.
Getting second place was a huge improvement for these universities, yet, achieving second place with zero points wasn’t actually something to be excited about.
Just as they had problems coming to terms with the result, they turned around and found that the members of the Tsinghua University team had lowered their heads in embarrassment.
When the members of the other four universities saw that, they finally felt relieved.
In the end, they were better than Tsinghua University. At least they had zero points when compared to Tsinghua University, which had -one points.
At least they were in second place while Tsinghua University came in last place.
When they realized that, all the discomforts they were feeling before were gone instantly. Whenever they would feel bad about getting second place despite having zero points, all they had to do was to turn to look at the depressing situation the members of the Tsinghua University team were in.
The members of the Tsinghua University team could feel the stares of their competitors, but there was nothing they could do about it.
They had been utterly humiliated and had no way to vent their anger, and now, the other teams had been able to turn them into some sort of comforting drugs to make themselves feel better.
They did realize the changes in expression of the members of the other four universities after glancing at them.
It was basically a situation where the students from Shuang University, Nan University, Tong University, and Jiang University were finding solace in another’s misfortune.
“Liu, that was a good match.” Professor Guo smiled as he reached his hand out to shake Professor Liu’s.
“Guo, now that the competition is over isn’t it time you tell me the truth?” Professor Liu forced a smile.
“What are you talking about? When did I lie to you?” Professor Guo put on an innocent face.
“That Tan Mo, she’s the ace of your school, right? It’s understandable that you never told me about her, or else we would’ve thought of a way to prevent this from happening.”
