Chapter 242: Chapter 229: First Encounter
Su Rende rode through the main street with his personal guards, when suddenly a figure dashed out from the side.
The person spread their arms, blocking Su Rende’s path.
Su Rende quickly tightened the reins, sharply looking at the young girl in front of him: "Young girl, do you know how dangerous it is to rush out like that?"
"May I ask if you are the National Guardian General?" Su Yaoguang looked at the man in front of her with admiration in her eyes.
The man before her was tall and imposing, with well-defined features and a righteous demeanor. He was clad in armor, with a large sword slung at his waist, exuding an awe-inspiring presence.
"I am." Su Rende softened his tone upon seeing the young girl’s sweet and gentle appearance, her eyes looking at him with innocence and purity.
Su Yaoguang knelt down and said to Su Rende, "Please, General, punish me for my offense!"
Su Rende was puzzled: "What crime have you committed? Even if you are guilty, you should go to the Capital City Government, why come to me?"
"The offense I committed was against the General Mansion." Su Yaoguang said, gesturing to Cui Hongxiu beside her.
Cui Hongxiu came forward.
Su Yaoguang removed the veil from Cui Hongxiu’s face, revealing a red and swollen face.
"Hiss... what happened to this young girl’s face?"
"Was she beaten? Who could be so cruel to beat a young girl’s face like this? If it’s disfigured, how will she get married?"
The surrounding people began to chatter.
Su Rende was even more confused.
"Young girl, just say what this woman’s face has to do with the General Mansion." A servant behind him couldn’t hold back and asked directly for the reason.
Su Yaoguang looked around, hesitating: "General, how about we talk somewhere else?"
"No need, say it right here, make things clear in front of everyone." Su Rende said.
"I am the owner of Taoyao Square, and yesterday..." Su Yaoguang started from the previous day, detailing everything. Each sentence admitted their lack of discernment, failing to recognize important people, offending the servants of the General Mansion, and afterwards they failed to serve the ladies of the General Mansion properly. With every sentence she admitted fault, blaming Taoyao Square, but anyone could hear that it was the General Mansion abusing their power.
"Young girl, do you dare to follow me to the General Mansion and confront them?" Su Rende asked coldly.
"General, it’s alright. You’ve fought enemies at the border, bringing us peace and prosperity. It’s normal for the ladies at the General Mansion to have a temper. We are just ordinary people, getting slapped a few times, being disfigured, it’s alright." Su Yaoguang’s eyes reddened.
"I fight enemies to serve the country, that’s my duty. I will not allow anyone from my mansion to oppress the people. If what you say today is true, I will give you an explanation. Come, follow me to the General Mansion." Su Rende said.
"The General is wise." Su Yaoguang pulled Cui Hongxiu forward.
Su Rende looked at Su Yaoguang in front of him: "Do you know how to ride a horse?"
Su Yaoguang nodded: "A little bit."
"Li Dali, give your horse to this young girl to ride, you walk back."
"Yes."
Su Yaoguang rode the horse following behind Su Rende.
For some reason, Su Rende found the young girl quite pleasing to the eye, very kind-hearted.
This young girl accused the General Mansion of oppressing people on the street, he should be angry, but he wasn’t at all.
As the Great General, he had been fighting on the border for years and returned to the capital only six months ago. He had seen all kinds of plots and schemes, if he couldn’t see through a young girl’s little maneuver, he would have died at the hands of enemy troops long ago.
However, despite knowing the young girl deliberately set him up, and even though he hated those with deep scheming minds, he didn’t dislike her at all.
He even found her quite adorable.
"Aren’t you afraid that I might get angry and cut you down for accusing the General Mansion of abusing power on the street?" Su Rende asked.
"The General isn’t someone who kills the innocent. I am just an ordinary person, if the General wanted to kill me, it would be as simple as crushing an ant, but you wouldn’t."
"Why do you think I will serve justice for you?"
"The General is a fair person. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so beloved by your soldiers."
Su Rende felt comforted by the compliment.
As they spoke, they reached the General Mansion.
Su Rende led Su Yaoguang and Cui Hongxiu directly into the inner courtyard.
"Is the Madam here?" Su Rende asked.
The servant nervously replied, "The Madam is entertaining some ladies in the backyard."
"Tell her that I, the General, need to see her for something, so have her come over." Su Rende said, "Also, bring that Tang Pozi over as well."
