Chapter 699: Transferring the Hatred to Me?

Chapter 699: Chapter 699: Transferring the Hatred to Me?

The female doctor blinked, then answered Sylvia Brooks’s question. "They’re pretty easy for beginners to raise, but there are a few strict requirements when it comes to their environment and daily care."

"I see." Sylvia Brooks nodded. "Now, let’s get back to your strange mother-in-law."

"Alright." The female doctor gently stroked Bella’s head, her tone as soft as if she were coaxing a child. "Bella, this nice lady can understand what you’re saying. Why don’t you have a little chat with her, okay?"

Bella heard her owner’s words and looked in the direction she was pointing, her big eyes staring curiously at Renee Jennings.

"Baa? The nice lady can hear me talk, baa?"

A soft smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips. "Hello there, Bella. Do you like your owner?"

Bella blinked her big, round eyes, glanced at the female doctor, and bobbed her head enthusiastically. "Baa! I do!"

Renee Jennings’s lips curved, and she continued, "Are there two other people in your owner’s house?"

Bella: "Baa~ There’s the husband and the mom."

Renee: "And do you like them?"

Bella: "Baa baa~ I like the husband, but not the mom."

Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. "Bella, can you tell me why you don’t like the mom? Your owner would really like to know, too."

Bella tilted her little head, thinking for a moment. "Baa! Mom is bad!"

"Bad in what way?"

"Baa, baa, baa..." Bella recounted all the bad things the female doctor’s mother-in-law had done.

As the female doctor listened to Bella’s continuous bleating, her brow furrowed and her expression grew grave.

Although she couldn’t understand it, she had a feeling it was something serious.

After a while, Bella finally delivered her closing remark: "Baa! And that’s how it is!"

"I see." Renee Jennings nodded, a look of understanding on her face.

Seeing this, the female doctor quickly asked, "Miss Jennings, what did Bella say?"

Renee Jennings shifted her gaze to her and said slowly, "I know why your mother-in-law’s attitude toward you changed so drastically before and after the wedding."

Everyone stared at her, waiting for what she would say next.

Renee: "Because when you were meeting the parents before the wedding, she discovered that you’re the daughter of a love rival from her youth."

"The daughter of a love rival?" The female doctor looked baffled. After a moment’s thought, she asked, "But how come my mother never mentioned this? If she and my mother-in-law were rivals, my mom would’ve definitely told me."

Renee: "Your mother doesn’t know about it. And the man in question wasn’t your father."

She paused slightly before explaining, "From what I gathered from Bella, your mother-in-law confessed her feelings to someone she liked when she was young. He rejected her and told her that the person he actually liked was your mother."

The female doctor was stunned for a few seconds, her voice laced with disbelief. "Just because of that, she held a grudge against my mother? And then after finding out about my relationship with my mom, she transferred that hatred onto me?"

Sylvia Brooks clicked her tongue. "Your mother-in-law is as petty as they come."

"But she’s the one who got rejected. It had nothing to do with you or your mom, so why hate you both? Her way of thinking is seriously messed up!" Phoebe Sawyer complained.

"Yes." Renee Jennings looked at the female doctor and asked hesitantly, "That food your mother-in-law leaves for you... have you been eating it?"

The female doctor shook her head. "No, it always looked so unappetizing. I threw it out every time, and then I still had to clean the dish."

Renee Jennings couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. "It’s good you didn’t eat it. You know, Bella just told me that every time, after your mother-in-law finished her own meal, she spits in the plate and then stirs it all up."

Hearing this, the female doctor’s eyes widened in astonishment. A wave of nausea suddenly washed over her, and she couldn’t help but gag.

Sylvia Brooks and Phoebe Sawyer also felt a sense of revulsion.

That was just too disgusting, too outrageous.

What kind of person does something like that?

It was a good thing the female doctor hadn’t eaten it; otherwise, she would be losing her mind right now.

Even though she hadn’t eaten it, the female doctor was still furious. "How could she do that? I’ve never done anything to offend her!"

Renee Jennings looked at her with a hint of pity in her eyes. "That’s not all. Those clothes of yours with footprints on them? She stepped on them on purpose. It had nothing to do with Bella."

"What about my skincare products and makeup? Did she mess with those too?" the female doctor asked.

Renee Jennings gave a slight nod. "Yes. She siphoned off your skincare products into other bottles, and she deliberately ruined your makeup."

The female doctor: "..."

Her face flushed red as she said indignantly, "Actually, there’s one more thing I was too embarrassed to mention earlier..."

"Is it that she knocks on the door when you and your husband are in your room?" Renee Jennings asked, her expression calm.

A flash of surprise crossed the female doctor’s face. "How did you know? Did Bella tell you?"

Renee: "Bella said that when your door is closed, your mother-in-law is always pressing her ear against it to listen. And often, while listening, she’ll knock."

The female doctor was both furious and mortified. "Yes! Every time my husband and I are being intimate, she always knocks on the door halfway through... I suspected she was doing it on purpose, but I had no proof!"

Sylvia Brooks looked completely aghast. "Your mother-in-law... is sick in the head."

Phoebe Sawyer couldn’t help but curse as well, "That detestable old hag!"

Renee: "Bella also said that she’s always bad-mouthing you to your husband whenever you’re not home."

The female doctor clenched her fists. "She’s really gone too far!"

"You’ve only been married for three months and she already dares to act like this. It will only get worse from here." Although Renee Jennings was unmarried, she’d seen enough absurdity in her time to understand the situation clearly.

Phoebe Sawyer wasn’t usually one for many words, but at this moment, she also advised, "Unless your husband is something really special, I’d recommend you cut your losses."

Sylvia Brooks: "It might sound harsh, but that’s what I was thinking too."

"Okay, thank you all for the advice." The female doctor suppressed the anger on her face and said gratefully, "I’ll have a serious talk with my husband. If he insists on siding with his mother, I won’t hold on to any illusions. I’ll make a clean break when it’s time."

Phoebe Sawyer nodded emphatically. "You have to stay rational and be decisive about saying goodbye to people who drain you."

"I understand." The female doctor expressed her thanks once more, then took a pre-prepared red envelope from her desk drawer and handed it to Renee Jennings. "Miss Jennings, this is a small token of my appreciation. You must accept it."

"I appreciate the thought, but there’s no need for the envelope." Renee Jennings accepted the red envelope, then gently pushed it back toward her. "All I ask is that you continue to take good care of Inky."

Hearing this, the female doctor didn’t insist further and nodded briskly. "Alright, I won’t stand on ceremony then, Miss Jennings. Rest assured, I will take excellent care of Inky."

"Thank you." Renee Jennings took another sip of her coffee and stood up. "Well, we won’t disturb you any longer. Goodbye."

"Take care. See you next time." The female doctor watched the three of them get into their car, and the smile on her face vanished completely.

Her expression hardened as she pulled out her phone and made a call.
