Chapter 681: Her Eyes Look a Lot Like Yours
Chapter 681: Chapter 681: Her Eyes Look a Lot Like Yours
Phoebe Sawyer raised an eyebrow, surprised by her mother’s intense reaction.
Seeing how curious her mother was, she continued, "My friend said that her mother must really miss her biological daughter. She’s always just spacing out by herself..."
As she spoke, a thought suddenly struck Phoebe like an electric shock—
’Mom has been spacing out all by herself a lot lately, too. Who is she missing?’
"And then what?" Wendy Lowe pressed anxiously. "Did her mother go look for her biological daughter?"
"Not yet." Phoebe Sawyer shook her head. "But my friend is planning to help her mother find her biological daughter. She was worried the daughter wouldn’t want to acknowledge her mother, so she asked Sylvia and me what we thought."
"Would she?" Wendy Lowe stared at her, subconsciously gripping her arm. "Would the biological daughter really be unwilling to acknowledge her?"
"Sylvia and I both think that’s unlikely," Phoebe Sawyer explained. "Because the mother is innocent, and she really misses her biological daughter."
Hearing this, a relieved smile spread across Wendy Lowe’s face. "That’s good."
Phoebe Sawyer blinked, wanting to ask something but not knowing how to bring it up.
With the topic exhausted, the mother and daughter lapsed into silence.
Just then, Kitty started meowing. "Meow~"
Phoebe Sawyer poked its nose with her finger and said with a laugh, "What are you talking about? I can’t understand you, you know."

The moment she got home, Renee Jennings saw Rhea Dempsey sitting on the sofa, staring into space.
She waved a hand in front of her face. "Ms. Dempsey, wake up."
Rhea Dempsey snapped out of it and chided, "I wasn’t asleep."
"You were spacing out." Renee Jennings picked a preserved plum candy from the coffee table, sat down beside her, and asked while unwrapping it, "What’s on your mind?"
"Renee, I just got a text," Rhea Dempsey said, pulling out her phone and opening the message. "I don’t know who sent it. It’s so strange."
[From an unknown number: Your daughter, Phoebe Sawyer, has returned to the country.]
After Renee Jennings read the message, her slender brows slowly drew together.
’Who could have sent this?’
"Let me get that number." Renee Jennings memorized the sender’s number and messaged Sawyer on WeChat, asking him to find out who it belonged to.
"Renee, what do you think this person’s motive is?" Rhea Dempsey frowned. "That’s what I was just thinking about—why would a stranger send a message telling me this?"
"Mom, let’s not worry about them for now," Renee Jennings said softly. "I’m having someone look into it. We should know the results soon."
Rhea Dempsey nodded. "Okay. I’ll trust you on this."
A faint smile played on Renee Jennings’s lips. After a moment’s thought, she spoke up, "Mom, guess who Sylvia introduced me to today?"
Rhea Dempsey blinked and guessed, "Was it her boyfriend?"
"Nope. Guess again."
"Don’t tell me she was trying to set you up with a boyfriend?"
"She introduced me to a friend, but not a guy. It was a sweet and lovely girl."
Rhea Dempsey smiled. "Oh, really? Is she as sweet and lovely as you?"
"Yes." Renee Jennings nodded seriously. "You’ll definitely like her when you meet her. Her name is Phoebe Sawyer."
At those words, the smile on Rhea Dempsey’s face slowly froze. "Renee, don’t play this kind of joke on your mother."
"Mom, I’m not joking." Renee Jennings wrapped an arm around her shoulder, resting her head in the crook of her neck. "I really did meet Phoebe Sawyer. She’s Sylvia’s childhood friend and just got back from overseas."
"What a coincidence," Rhea Dempsey said, surprised. "She’s Sylvia’s childhood friend?"
Renee Jennings’s lips curled into a smile. "Yes, it’s a small world. You can run into the people you want to see at any time."
"It really is a small world..." Rhea Dempsey laid her hand on the back of Renee’s, her voice thick with emotion.
"Phoebe needs my help with something," Renee Jennings explained. "Her mother has been in low spirits lately, always hiding away to cry in secret."
Rhea Dempsey frowned. "What’s wrong?"
"Mom," Renee Jennings’s tone suddenly turned exceptionally serious. "Have you been hiding away to cry in secret?"
Rhea Dempsey froze for a moment, then she suddenly realized the implication in Renee’s words. Her expression grew solemn. "Wendy Lowe... she knows?"
"Yes." Renee Jennings sighed softly. "I communicated with their family’s kitten. It told me that Auntie Winnie is saying her daughter is missing."
Rhea Dempsey’s lips trembled, and she let out a heavy sigh. "It’s been so hard on her. How many people has Zoe Morgan ruined!"
"Mom, you still haven’t answered my question," Renee Jennings reminded her.
"What?"
"Have you been hiding away to cry in secret?"
"I..." Rhea Dempsey wanted to say no, but looking into those clear, bright eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to lie. "I wouldn’t say I hide away to cry. It’s just that sometimes, when I think about it late at night, when it’s quiet, I can’t help but feel sad."
"I understand." Renee Jennings gave her a hug. "I have something to show you."
"Something to show me?" Rhea Dempsey asked with an amused smile.
Renee Jennings took out her phone and opened her photo album. "This girl is Phoebe."
’She had specifically suggested they take a picture together that afternoon just so Rhea could see Phoebe. Sylvia probably thought she was acting a little strange today.’
Rhea Dempsey took the phone, staring transfixed at the girl on the screen, whose features were as lovely as a painting and whose smile was like a blooming flower.
A small smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips. "Mom, have you noticed? Phoebe’s eyes are a lot like yours."
"Are they?" A gentle smile bloomed in Rhea Dempsey’s eyes.
"Yes. They both look so gentle, with a sort of classic beauty to them."
"Are you lying to me? Everyone else says I have a fierce look in my eyes."
"They’re lying to you. Trust me, you’re not fierce at all."
Just then, Willow was passing by. Renee Jennings called out to her, "Willow, do you think Aunt Rae’s eyes look fierce?"
Hearing the question, Willow immediately shook her head like a rattle. "Not fierce, not at all! Aunt Rae is the sweetest!"
"Excellent. You can go back to your work now." Renee Jennings turned back to Rhea Dempsey and lifted her chin. "See? The sweetest!"
"Alright, alright." Rhea Dempsey was all smiles. "I heard you. The sweetest."
Renee Jennings began to massage her mother’s shoulders enthusiastically. "Mom, I completely support you and Phoebe acknowledging each other."
Hearing this, Rhea Dempsey’s eyes suddenly welled up. "You silly girl."
"I’m not silly at all." Renee Jennings hugged her and said playfully, "I’m very smart. A while ago, when Pippi had to go back, all the furry kids were very supportive of his decision."
"That’s not right."
"How is it not right?"
Rhea Dempsey raised an eyebrow, feigning irritation. "Are you indirectly calling me a puppy?"
"Huh?" Renee Jennings was floored. "I did not! I’ve been framed, Your Spicy-ness!"
"Speaking of spicy, I’m suddenly in the mood for malatang." Rhea Dempsey’s train of thought seemed to jump around. "Why don’t we go out for malatang tonight instead of cooking?"
Renee Jennings blinked. "We can do that."
Rhea Dempsey raised her voice and called out, "Zane! Young! Don’t worry about dinner! We’re not cooking tonight, we’re going out for malatang."
Her voice didn’t bring out Glenn Zane and Barbara Young, but it did bring the children down from upstairs.
