Chapter 659: Gave the Cub to Someone Else
Chapter 659: Chapter 659: Gave the Cub to Someone Else
"What’s wrong?" Diana walked over to Renee.
Renee Jennings said softly, "Sis, there are two Santa Clauses here for Zane and Jasmine."
"Huh?" Diana Jennings paused, turning her head to look at the small screen. "What’s going on?"
She frowned and asked through the screen, "Who sent you?"
One of the Santas at the door replied, "Sorry, we’re not sure ourselves. We just received an order to deliver gifts to Zane and Jasmine."
"You don’t know who placed the order?" Diana asked.
The Santa shook his head. "We can’t see the client’s information. Could you please open the door? We’ll bring the gifts inside."
"Yeah, it’s pretty cold out here," the other Santa chimed in.
Diana pursed her lips, hesitant. "Can you see what’s inside them?"
The Santa: "We can’t see."
An image suddenly flashed through Renee’s mind. She asked in a low voice, "Could it possibly be... Ju—"
"Him?" Diana’s brow furrowed.
The Santa urged them again, "Can you please accept the gifts soon? We still have to get back to our girlfriends for the holiday."
"Alright." Diana didn’t have the heart to make them freeze in the heavy snow. "I’m opening the door now."
The two Santas carried two enormous gift boxes to the main entrance and handed a delivery slip to Diana. "Please sign here."
Renee chimed in, "Can we check them first?"
The Santa: "Of course."
Diana undid the ribbon on one of the gift boxes and lifted the lid. Inside were several items: toys, snacks, stationery, and a hat.
She opened the other gift box. The contents were pretty much the same, except one was blue-themed and the other was pink-themed.
The Santa: "Can we get your signature now?"
"Yes." Diana signed her name. "Thank you for your trouble. Merry Christmas."
The Santas laughed. "Merry Christmas!"
Renee and Diana carried the boxes into the living room in two trips.
Michelle Fuller exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, Sister Bella, those gift boxes you bought are gorgeous!"
"I didn’t buy them," Diana said, not hiding the truth from the others. "And I don’t know who sent them to Zane and Jasmine."
Hearing this, everyone dropped the subject.
Late that night, Diana returned to her room. She lay in bed, tossing and turning. ’Who on earth sent those two gift boxes?’
’Renee said it was Julian Blackwood. Could it really be him?’
’Why would he send gifts to my children?’
She reached for the phone beside her, debating whether to message him and ask.
After a moment, Diana put the phone back down.
’Since the sender didn’t leave a name, I’ll just pretend I don’t know who it is.’
’That will save a lot of trouble.’
The next day, the villa echoed with the children’s surprised and delighted cheers.
Unfortunately, the villa’s soundproofing was too good for Renee and her friend to hear.
Christmas passed, and soon it was New Year’s Day, heralding the start of a new year.
Renee also managed to squeeze in her last livestream of the year before New Year’s.
As soon as the livestream began, viewers started flooding the screen with comments.
[Ms. Jennings, I thought you wouldn’t be streaming because of the holidays!]
[Renee, Happy New Year in advance~]
[New year, new beginnings! Can we switch up how we do the call-ins today?]
Renee watched the comments and raised an eyebrow. "It’s not New Year’s yet. How do you want to change the call-ins?"
[How about by screenshot~ Everyone spams the same phrase, you take a screenshot, and the first person in the shot gets to call in.]
[That method sounds pretty good~]
[I’m for it! Let’s start the call-ins!]
Seeing that everyone liked the idea, Renee smiled and agreed. "Alright, let’s do the call-ins that way today."
[What should we type?]
[So excited! I have a feeling it’s going to be me today!]
[I feel like I’ve got a shot today too! Let’s go!]
Renee thought for a moment. "Okay, type ’Happy New Year’."
The words had barely left her mouth when viewers flooded the chat.
In an instant, the screen was filled with the three words, "Happy New Year."
Renee leaned closer to the screen, her lips curving into a smile. "Are you ready? I’m taking the screenshot now... Three, two, one!"
CLICK—
Renee took the screenshot and called out the ID: "Calorie."
[Damn, is it too late for me to change my name to Calorie?]
[SOB SOB SOB... Another loss. I’m quietly letting go of the little demon I was holding for good luck!]
[Calorie’s not here.]
[Here, here, I’m here!]
[Who says I’m not here? I’m here, Host.]
"Okay." Renee smiled and sent her a call-in invitation.
In the next second, her phone’s interface smoothly switched to a two-way split screen.
The other screen showed a dimly lit room. A woman with her hair down was leaning against a headboard, her smile serene. "Hello, Host."
Renee smiled back. "Hello, Calorie. What can I help you with?"
"Yes," Calorie nodded, her voice still very soft. "I recently gave birth, and ever since I came home with the baby, our tabby cat has gotten a really bad temper. It hisses at us whenever it sees us. I want to know what’s wrong with him."
[That’s an easy one. Let me answer for you. Tabbies are very possessive. It saw you come home with a baby and got jealous!]
[I also think the tabby is just jealous.]
[Cats are such cunning little things these days.]
[Why even have a cat when you have a kid? I really don’t get it.]
[If you don’t get it, then just keep quiet!]
Renee glanced at the comments, then looked back at Calorie. "Where’s your tabby cat? Let me ask him for you."
"Okay, hold on a second, Host. I’ll go find him now." As she spoke, Calorie threw back the covers and got out of bed.
She left the room, looked around, and found the tabby cat on the service balcony. "Kaka, come to Mommy."
She turned the camera to face him.
The tabby cat, Kaka, glanced back at her. A flicker of dissatisfaction crossed his amber eyes before he looked away, ignoring her completely.
Calorie said helplessly, "He’s been like this ever since I gave birth. He stopped being affectionate when I got pregnant, and now he treats us like complete strangers."
Just as Renee was about to say something, she heard the meow of the tabby cat, Kaka, through the phone.
"MEOW MEOW MEOW! It’s all your fault, you horrible humans! It’s because of you that Little One is gone!"
Her brow furrowed slightly, her expression turning inquisitive.
Seeing her expression, Calorie quickly asked, "Host, did you hear what Kaka said?"
"Don’t be anxious just yet," Renee said softly. "Kaka, can you tell me who Little One is?"
The tabby cat Kaka froze for a second, then narrowed his eyes at Calorie’s phone. "MEOW MEOW MEOW! Mommy must have given Little One away to someone else! Bad! I hate them!"
Hearing this, Renee thought for a few seconds before asking, "Why do you think Little One was given away?"
The tabby cat Kaka let out a dangerous growl from deep in his throat. "MEOW MEOW MEOW! Mommy and the others sold Little One and only brought one little one back! Cat is angry! Very angry!"
Renee: "When you say ’Little One,’ whose little one do you mean? Yours, or your mommy’s?"
