Chapter 593: It Was That #2 Fan Clinging to Me
Chapter 593: Chapter 593: It Was That #2 Fan Clinging to Me
Sawyer had Wendy Dawson sit down and said softly, "Did you know that Nancy Yules has a friend who’s an online streamer?"
"I’ve heard Nina mention her. I think her name is Joy." Wendy Dawson nodded. "The reason Nina came to Zenvia this time was that Joy kept inviting her."
"That girl, Joy, invited Nina to Zenvia with an ulterior motive."
"What kind of motive?"
"Veronica Young is a streamer who does entertainment content. Her income depends entirely on viewer donations. Some of her top fans wanted to have sex with her, but she wasn’t willing to do that, so she drugged Nancy Yules..."
Hearing this, Wendy Dawson’s face turned pale. She asked in horror, "Then does that mean Nina...?"
"Don’t worry, Ms. Dawson. Several of our colleagues arrived at the scene in time." Sawyer reassured her gently. "Nancy Yules only fell into a coma. She didn’t suffer any physical harm."
Wendy Dawson finally let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you!" she said, emotional. "Thank you so much for protecting Nina in time."
"That’s the gist of it, but the suspects probably won’t confess easily." Sawyer stood up. "Ms. Dawson, we’ll leave Nancy Yules in your care for now. We have to get back to the station. We’ll come pick her up for a statement tomorrow when she’s awake."
"Of course, of course." Wendy Dawson quickly agreed. "Thank you for your hard work, officers!"
At the station, Veronica Young, Emil Redmond, and Top Fan #2 were interrogated through the night.
It was as if Veronica Young and Emil Redmond had gotten their stories straight beforehand. They adamantly denied drugging Nancy Yules.
Veronica Young: "She got drowsy and fell asleep on her own. What does that have to do with me?"
Emil Redmond: "I honestly don’t know what happened. I didn’t even know Nancy Yules had gone to sleep."
As for Top Fan #2, he felt he’d been caught in an undeserved disaster.
"I don’t even know what’s going on. I just came to meet my online girlfriend and got arrested for no reason."
Kyle Morgan questioned him coldly, "You call that a meeting? What were you doing when I pushed the door open just now?"
Top Fan #2 grew agitated. "Well, when adult men date, it’s for pleasure, right? Isn’t it normal to sleep together?"
Levi Hollis frowned deeply. "Did you even get a good look? The girl in the bed wasn’t your online girlfriend!"
"Joy’s cousin opened the door and let me in, so I didn’t think much of it," Top Fan #2 explained. "Besides, I only ever video chatted with Joy online. I’d never met her in person, so I thought that’s what she really looked like. And at the time, I was so focused on her body that I didn’t pay much attention to her face..."
Top Fan #2 sighed, frustrated and aggrieved. "Officer, I was scammed too. I’m innocent!"
He even pulled out chat logs to prove he was indeed dating Joy.
Based on the current evidence, Top Fan #2 had indeed fallen into a scam, but he wasn’t entirely blameless.
"How’s the interrogation going?" Renee Jennings asked as soon as she and Sawyer got back to the office.
Kyle Morgan tilted his head back to put in eye drops. "We’re done with Top Fan #2," he replied. "Veronica Young and Emil Redmond are still refusing to talk."
"The chief said to let them stew for a night and continue in the morning," Zachary Conway said with a yawn, glancing at the clock on the wall. "It’s getting late. Everyone, pack up and go home. We have an early start tomorrow."
Sawyer looked at Renee Jennings and asked hesitantly, "Renee, it’s so late. Why don’t you crash at my place for the night?"
Renee Jennings nodded, flashing a set of perfect white teeth. "Okay."
「The next day.」
It started raining at six-thirty in the morning. Sawyer got up, went downstairs, and came back with breakfast and a new raincoat.
Renee Jennings was brushing her teeth in the bathroom. Hearing the noise, she came out. "Sawyer, it’s raining out. Why did you go out?"
"Renee, you’re up. I went to get breakfast." Sawyer put the food on the coffee table, then took the dripping umbrella to the balcony to dry.
"Wow, youtiao!" Renee Jennings loved youtiao. Rhea Dempsey used to make them for her occasionally, but now Glenn Zane did the cooking at home, so it had been a long time since she’d had any.
Sawyer smiled and said, "The Soy and eggs from downstairs are pretty good, too. You should try them."
"Okay." Renee Jennings sped up her brushing.
After breakfast, the rain was still coming down.
Sawyer thought for a moment, then picked up her phone. "I’ll call a car. The rain’s a bit heavy."
Renee Jennings noticed she had bought a raincoat when she went downstairs. "It’s not that bad," she said. "Not a downpour. Let’s just take the electric scooter, okay?"
"I’m worried we’ll get soaked."
"But we have raincoats, right? Besides, it’s hard to get a car when it’s raining, and the traffic will be bad."
As she spoke, Renee Jennings unwrapped the new raincoat on the table. "I actually really like this little yellow duck pattern. It reminds me of the duck Addie owns, Ducky."
So, Sawyer didn’t mention calling a car again.
It was only a fifteen-minute ride from her place to the police station on the electric scooter.
"Morning."
"Morning."
They started greeting people as soon as they entered the station.
Sawyer grabbed a mug and was about to head to the breakroom for coffee when someone called out to her.
"Sawyer."
Sawyer turned around and greeted him. "Morning, Director Lowell."
"No need to make any," Quentin Lowell said with a chuckle. "I’m treating everyone to coffee today. Just come to me for reimbursement after you buy it."
Kyle Morgan immediately popped out. "Director Lowell, you seem to be in a good mood today."
"I am." Quentin Lowell’s smile deepened as he pointed in Renee Jennings’ direction. "Kane is our lucky star."
With that, he walked upstairs with a spring in his step.
Kyle Morgan turned his head to look at Renee Jennings. "Then I’ll just consider today’s coffee a treat from Renee Jennings."
Renee Jennings blinked in confusion.
The coffee shop didn’t open until nine, so everyone had a cup of instant coffee first.
Zachary Conway drank his instant coffee with an artisan bread roll, munching on it as he said, "I’ll contact Top Fan #3 in a bit and have him come to the station this morning."
At nine o’clock sharp, they all filed into the conference room for a meeting.
Half an hour later, Kyle Morgan and Sawyer went into the interrogation room while Renee Jennings and the others watched from behind the one-way mirror.
"Veronica Young, have you thought it over?" Kyle Morgan stared at her with a serious expression. "I advise you to confess and be treated with leniency."
"Confess what?" Veronica Young said defiantly. "I haven’t done anything wrong. Once the twenty-four hours are up, I’m leaving."
"Veronica Young, why did you ask to meet Nancy Yules?" Sawyer asked.
Veronica Young scoffed. "Nancy Yules and I are good friends. Do good friends need a reason to meet up?"
Sawyer stared at her coldly. "Then why did you also arrange to meet Top Fan #2 on the same day you were meeting your ’good friend’?"
"Can’t I?" Veronica Young’s gaze flickered. "There’s no rule against meeting two people on the same day, is there?"
Kyle Morgan’s voice was grave. "What is your relationship with Emil Redmond?"
"He’s my boyfriend."
"If you have a boyfriend, why were you in a romantic relationship with Top Fan #2?"
"I wasn’t. That Top Fan #2 was pestering me."
"Pestering you?" Sawyer found that funny. She held up several A4 pages of printed chat logs. "From the looks of it, you were the one pestering him."
