Chapter 539: "A Human Brought You Here?
Chapter 539: Chapter 539: "A Human Brought You Here?
"What’s that sound?" Michelle Fuller stood before the sink, a piercing scream suddenly reaching her ears. She furrowed her brows in suspicion. ’Why does that sound so much like Sean’s voice?’
She quickly turned off the faucet, ran to the men’s restroom door, and shouted, "Sean, was that you screaming just now?"
"Sis... Sis!" Sean Fuller’s voice trembled as he cried out. "WAAAAH, Sis... Go get Renee to save me! There’s a snake in the bathroom..."
"Ah!" The color drained from Michelle Fuller’s face. "Sean, don’t be scared," she said nervously. "I’ll go get Renee right now."
"O-Okay, q-quick... go quickly..."
Michelle Fuller was wearing stilettos, but she ran as if she were in sneakers.
She sprinted, shouting as she went, "Renee! Renee, help!"
Unfortunately, the theater was too well soundproofed, and Renee Jennings didn’t hear her cries.
Michelle Fuller charged to the theater door, shoved the solid wood door open, and yelled in a panic, "Renee, hurry and save Sean!"
Renee Jennings turned off the sound system and frowned. "Michelle, what happened?"
"Renee, save Sean! There’s a snake in the bathroom!" Michelle Fuller was sweating profusely from anxiety, her voice on the verge of tears.
Charles Lockwood frowned. "How could there be a snake here?"
Renee Jennings was already on her feet and heading for the door.
Sylvia Brooks quickly followed her out.
"Should I call the fire department?" Charles Lockwood asked as he walked.
He knew Renee Jennings was an animal streamer, but he wasn’t sure if she could handle a snake.
Renee Jennings strode ahead and replied, "Not for now."
"Okay." Charles Lockwood put his phone down.
The group arrived at the men’s restroom. As soon as they entered, they saw Sean Fuller with his hands raised in surrender.
Looking down, they saw a grayish-brown snake in an attack posture.
’What kind of snake is this?’
System 009’s voice chimed in at the perfect moment: [Miss Jennings, this is a Black Mamba, commonly known as "black lightning." A bitten victim can die within an hour, or even just a few minutes.]
"A venomous snake." Renee Jennings frowned, a grave expression appearing on her fair face.
Charles Lockwood’s expression was just as grim. He was completely baffled.
’How could a venomous snake appear in a private theater?’
Michelle Fuller was so worried that tears started to well up. She choked out, "Sean, did it bite you?"
"No..." Sean Fuller’s entire body was rigid. He didn’t even dare to breathe too deeply.
He was so glad he’d only spotted the snake after he finished peeing. Otherwise, he probably would have wet his pants by now.
Hearing he wasn’t bitten, Michelle Fuller let out a small sigh of relief.
The Black Mamba was originally facing Sean Fuller. Hearing the noise, its body slowly turned toward the door, warily eyeing the humans who had suddenly appeared.
It seemed to catch a peculiar scent, and its gaze fixed on Renee Jennings, a flash of confusion in its round, brownish eyes.
’This human... why does she smell like one of us?’
Renee Jennings met the Black Mamba’s gaze and raised an eyebrow. "Hi, little snake. Are you a boy or a girl?"
"HISS~" The Black Mamba didn’t quite understand. "What is a boy or a girl?"
Renee Jennings chuckled. "Are you male or female?"
"HISS~ Female."
"What a coincidence. Me too."
The Black Mamba’s eyes grew even more confused. "HISS? Then why don’t you look much like a snake?"
Renee Jennings: "Maybe I grew up crooked."
"HISS~ How pitiful." The Black Mamba looked at her sympathetically.
"It is," Renee Jennings said. "Will you look down on me? Will you refuse to play with me because I’m crooked?"
"HISS~ Of course not." The Black Mamba shook its head.
Renee Jennings smiled faintly. "Thanks, you’re so nice."
’Looks like this is a gentle venomous snake.’
"Can you tell me why you’re here?" she asked.
Black Mamba: "HISS~ Snake wants to know that too. Why did that male human bring Snake here?"
It had been perfectly happy at home when a male human suddenly grabbed it.
Renee Jennings’s eyes flickered. "A human brought you here?"
Black Mamba: "HISS~ Yes. Can you help Snake find that human?"
"You’re looking for him?"
"HISS~ Yes. I want him to take me home. Snake has been wandering around this godforsaken place for half the day and just can’t find a way out."
"I understand," Renee Jennings said gently. "I can help you. Do you trust me?"
Black Mamba: "HISS~ Of course. We’re the same kind. Who else would I trust?"
"I’m glad you’re willing to trust me." Renee Jennings tentatively took a step toward it.
Charles Lockwood was incredibly nervous, cold sweat trickling down his back, terrified that Renee Jennings would be bitten.
After all, if something happened on his property, he would bear a heavy responsibility.
Seeing that the Black Mamba showed no signs of attacking, Renee Jennings continued to close the distance between them.
She carefully extended a finger and gently tapped its head. "So, are we friends now?"
"HISS, of course~" As soon as the Black Mamba finished speaking, its long, slender body voluntarily coiled around her arm.
The hearts of everyone else present leaped into their throats.
Renee Jennings was actually a little nervous herself. The last time she faced a cobra, she had exchanged for the "Soul of Ten Thousand Beasts" and "Hundred Times Animal Affinity."
This time, she hadn’t done anything but simply communicate.
Thankfully, this Black Mamba was easy to get along with.
Seeing the Black Mamba wrapped around Renee Jennings, Sean Fuller’s tense body suddenly went slack. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.
"PHEW—"
Sean Fuller let out a long breath and burst out crying with a "WAAAAH."
"WAAAAH, WAAAAH."
"I was scared to death, WAAAAH."
"I thought I was going to die here today."
Michelle Fuller quickly rushed to his side, comforting him in a tearful voice, "It’s okay now, Sean. Don’t be scared, don’t be scared."
"Sis..." Sean Fuller hugged her, his voice full of grievance. "I was really scared to death just now."
For once, Michelle Fuller was acting like a proper older sister. She patted his back gently and soothed, "Go on and cry. You’ll feel better if you let it all out."
Ten minutes later, the group returned to the theater.
Renee Jennings sat on the sofa with the Black Mamba still coiled around her. Michelle Fuller and the other three stood behind the small bar.
Sean Fuller looked at Renee Jennings with immense gratitude, his voice nasal from crying and full of emotion. "Renee, from this day on, you’re not my sister, you’re my savior! You’ve given me a new lease on life!"
Hearing this, Michelle Fuller’s brow furrowed in confusion. "Then from now on, won’t you have to call Renee ’Dad’ or ’Mom’?"
Renee Jennings: "..."
Renee thought she was going to die laughing at Michelle Fuller.
’How does this girl manage to miss the point every single time?’
Sean Fuller was successfully led astray. He asked with a completely serious face, "Renee, tell me, would you prefer I call you Dad or Mom? Whatever you say, I’ll call you that!"
Renee Jennings: "..."
’Like brother, like sister.’
She sighed helplessly. "Just keep calling me Renee from now on. Calling me ’Dad’ or ’Mom’ is too weird."
"I think it’s a little weird too." Michelle Fuller nodded in agreement. "Then just stick to calling her Renee."
"Okay, Renee." Sean Fuller obediently agreed.
Charles Lockwood looked at Renee Jennings, his eyes filled with sincere gratitude. "Renee, thank you so much for today."
