Chapter 468: Afraid of Its Approach
Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Afraid of Its Approach
Bonnie’s eyes filled with surprise and anticipation at the praise. "Is it pretty? Is it really pretty?"
Renee Jennings opened the selfie mode on her phone and held it out to her. "It’s really pretty. See for yourself."
Bonnie stared at herself on the screen, raised a hand to touch the hair clip on her head, and her lips curved into a small smile. "I like it!"
"I’m glad you like it." Renee Jennings’s lips curved into a smile as she handed over a fuzzy pink flower purse. "It’s full of pretty hair clips. They’re for you."
Bonnie stroked the flower purse, unable to put it down. "Is it really for me?"
"Really." Renee Jennings patted her head, her heart aching for the little orangutan.
’She keeps asking if it’s real. It’s like she can’t believe she’d ever receive a gift. Why is that?’
Renee Jennings tilted her head to look at Hilary and voiced her confusion. "Why is Bonnie like this?"
"Well..." Hilary frowned in thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "I remember now! Some tourists who liked Sasha were messing with Bonnie before!"
"How did they mess with her?"
Hilary said, "Those tourists brought gifts for Sasha. I think their intention was probably to tease Sasha, to see her get all huffy, so they gave the gifts to Bonnie instead."
Renee Jennings’s slender eyebrows slowly furrowed. "And then they took the gifts back from Bonnie and gave them to Sasha?"
Hilary nodded. "Yes."
Renee Jennings: "They didn’t leave a single gift for Bonnie?"
"Not a single one."
Michelle Fuller was speechless. "Are they sick in the head? Who does things like that?"
Zachary Conway sighed. "God, I can’t even imagine how disappointed Bonnie must have been when they took the gifts away."
"Exactly!" Michelle Fuller clenched her fists. "I can’t believe it. How can people like that even exist!"
Bonnie still remembered the incident. Recalling it now, she still felt sad, her tone laced with grievance. "And Sasha kept laughing at me!"
"What did Sasha laugh at you for?" Renee Jennings asked.
Bonnie mumbled softly, "Sasha said I was shameless. That those humans were her fans, and how dare I take her fans’ gifts. She said if I ever dared to touch a gift from her fans again, she would break my hands."
"Sasha is definitely not well-behaved." Renee Jennings’s voice was grave. "Besides that, what else has Sasha said to you?"
Bonnie’s voice was choked with sobs. "Sasha and Layla always laugh at me. They say I’m ugly but think I’m beautiful. They won’t play with me, and they steal my food. They’re mean!"
"I see." Renee Jennings sighed, then said in a gentler tone, "Bonnie, let’s go find Sasha and Layla together, okay?"
"No." Bonnie’s head shook back and forth like a rattle drum. "I don’t want to see them at all!"
"Are you afraid they’ll bully you?" Renee Jennings asked.
Bonnie nodded forcefully. "Yes, they’re mean!"
"Don’t be afraid." Renee Jennings comforted her. "I’m here. If they dare to bully you, I will definitely protect you."
"Me too!" Michelle Fuller chimed in hurriedly. "I’ll protect you too!"
Zachary Conway raised his hand. "Count me in."
Bonnie’s gaze shifted between the three of them.
Renee Jennings said with a smile, "See, Bonnie? With so many people protecting you, you’re not so scared anymore, are you?"
Bonnie slowly nodded her head. "I’m not scared anymore."
"That’s great." Renee Jennings held out her arms to her. "Can I hold you?"
Bonnie proactively reached out and clung to her.
Renee Jennings’s lips curved slightly, a soft smile spreading in her eyes. "So cute."
"Yes, yes, so adorable!" Michelle Fuller nodded in agreement from the side, having already forgotten that she used to think orangutans were ugly.
Hilary contacted her colleague, Brother Gus, to ask where Sasha and Layla were.
She opened the photo Brother Gus had sent. "They’re at the man-made stream."
Hearing this, Bonnie told Renee Jennings, "I love playing in the water at the stream too. Wading is so much fun!"
"Oh, really?" Renee Jennings said with a laugh. "I think wading is fun too."
Bonnie rested her fuzzy head on Renee’s shoulder and sighed softly. "But Sasha and Layla won’t let me play. They always chase me away."
"I understand." Renee Jennings said softly. "I’ll handle it. You’ll be able to go wading every day from now on."
When Bonnie heard this, her eyes instantly lit up, and her gaze was filled with adoration. "You’re such an amazing human!"
Renee Jennings’s lips curved. "Thank you for the compliment."
From a distance, the group could hear the laughter of tourists.
"Wow, Sasha is so cute!"
"Sasha always puts so much effort into her performance! She tries so hard to make everyone happy!"
"Sasha, baby, look at the camera~~"
Sasha was very photogenic, seriously striking various poses and making the tourists laugh nonstop.
Some tourists, who had come after watching Renee Jennings’s livestream, stood a short distance away observing Sasha.
It was truly hard to believe that this lively, adorable orangutan would bully her own kind.
Sasha noticed this group of tourists too. Supporting herself on the knuckles of her forelimbs, she walked out of the shallow stream to interact with them.
She tilted her head and grinned at the tourists.
One of the tourists was a petite girl wearing a pearl headband. Sasha walked up to her, pointed at the girl, then pointed at her own head.
It was the petite girl’s first time seeing an orangutan. She didn’t understand what Sasha meant and was a little scared of her approaching, so she subconsciously stepped back.
The regular visitors who were familiar with Sasha started shouting at her.
"Sasha likes your headband!"
"Hey beautiful, why don’t you give your headband to Sasha? She really likes it."
"If I’d known, I would’ve worn a headband today too..."
Sasha didn’t seem to sense the petite girl’s reluctance and moved closer to her again, even reaching out to tug on her clothes.
"Ah..." the petite girl cried out in alarm.
Sasha was startled too. She shivered and found a place to hide.
Seeing this, those regular visitors started to blame the petite girl.
"What do you think you’re doing? You scared Sasha!"
"I’m speechless. If you’re so scared of her, why did you even come here?"
"If you scare Sasha so badly that something happens to her, can you even take responsibility?"
"..."
"I..." The petite girl’s face flushed red as she explained, "I’m sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose. I was just a little startled."
Even though she had already apologized, the regular visitors were relentless.
"What’s the use of apologizing?"
"Sasha likes your headband. Why won’t you give it to her?"
"I bet you don’t even like Sasha at all!"
The petite girl looked helpless. "But... this headband was a birthday present from my friend..."
A short-haired girl with dyed orange hair said aggressively, "See? She really doesn’t like Sasha. She explained about the headband, but she didn’t refute what I said about her not liking Sasha!"
Another girl with a ponytail chimed in, "If you don’t like Sasha, then you shouldn’t have come!"
The petite girl frowned. "Do I have to like a specific animal to be allowed to visit the zoo? You’re being completely unreasonable!"
