Chapter 461: Chapter 461: What Does Zoe Morgan Want to Do?
As soon as Renee Jennings finished translating, she saw Cokie raise a hand and give Oreo a hard smack.
Oreo instantly let out a pitiful yelp. "ARF—Mom, why’d you hit me? Didn’t you promise you wouldn’t hit your dog?"
Once Renee Jennings finished translating, the livestream audience exploded with laughter in the comments.
[AHAHAHA I’m gonna laugh myself to death]
[Such a naive doggo hahaha]
[Cokie: I said I wouldn’t hit you *then*, not that I wouldn’t hit you *now*]
[To be fair, Oreo really had it coming. Betraying his owner like that! Sleeping all day and then pretending to be a stray at night.]
As Oreo tried to hide, Cokie reacted in a flash and pinned him down.
"You little traitor! You’ve got some nerve, huh?"
Oreo was pinned to the sofa. He didn’t dare struggle. Instead, knowing what was good for him, he begged for mercy. "Mom, I wouldn’t dare! I was wrong! Please don’t hit me!"
Cokie was so exasperated she had to laugh. "Oh, so you know you’re wrong? Tell me, what did you do wrong?"
Oreo: "I won’t get any more funny ideas!"
Hearing this, Cokie knew he hadn’t truly realized his mistake. She feigned annoyance and swatted his head. "Wrong. Say it again!"
[LOL, I usually hate seeing people discipline their pets, but I’m finding this strangely entertaining.]
[Oreo, face the wind!]
Oreo’s fluffy face scrunched up as he struggled to figure out what he had done wrong to deserve this.
"Figured it out yet?" Cokie asked.
Oreo gave her a furtive look and shook his head guiltily. "Mom, I can’t think of it. Can you just tell me?"
Cokie waited for Renee Jennings to finish translating, then said earnestly, "Oreo, you were wrong not to eat or go for your walk properly during the day, and then to sneak out at night without my permission! What if you’d run into a dognapper?"
[It’s like she’s scolding a child! So sweet!]
[Yeah, raising a pet is like raising a child. You’d be just as frantic if your pet went missing as if your child did.]
"What’s a dognapper?" Oreo’s eyes were filled with confusion.
Renee Jennings explained what a dognapper was. "Sneaking out to play by yourself, especially at night, is very dangerous."
Oreo had never even considered that such things as dognappers existed in the world.
He began to tremble, yelping with belated fear, "Mom, I won’t do it again! I really know I was wrong now! Never again!"
"Oh, really?" Cokie released him, half-amused and half-annoyed. "Then what about your Crystal? She’ll be scared running alone at night."
"Oh, right!" Sorrow was written all over Oreo’s doggy face. "Could Crystal get taken by dognappers?"
"No, dognappers only take dogs," Renee Jennings said. "But there are kidnappers who take people."
"Ah!" Oreo grew even more worried. "That’s terrible! I have to go warn Crystal not to run so late at night anymore! It would be a disaster if I got taken by dognappers and Crystal got taken by kidnappers!"
He leaped into Cokie’s arms, barking and pleading, "Mom, can you go with me to warn Crystal? If she’s waiting for me tonight and I don’t show up, she’ll think I was taken by dognappers! She’ll worry about me!"
Hearing this, Cokie’s anger, which had just subsided, flared up again. She gently patted his head. "You’re afraid Crystal will worry, but you’re not afraid I’ll worry? Aren’t you afraid that I’ll wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, find you missing, and run out to look for you?"
Oreo replied with utter conviction, "Mom, you sleep like a log every night. Why would you get up to use the bathroom?"
Cokie: "..."
’I’m furious! Absolutely furious!’
[Oreo is hilarious.]
[I have a dog too. I’d love to know what we look like from our dog’s perspective.]
[He’s her son, alright.]
"Yeah, he’s my son, so what can I do but spoil him." Cokie patted Oreo’s head again and switched to her front-facing camera. "Ms. Jennings, I think I’ll still go out with Oreo tonight and find this Crystal. I need to tell her that Oreo isn’t a stray and can’t join her for night runs anymore."
Renee Jennings nodded. "That sounds like a good idea."
’That was the right thing to do. After all, Crystal didn’t know Oreo had a home. She would definitely be worried if he suddenly stopped showing up.’
"Thanks, Ms. Jennings! I won’t take up any more of your time." Cokie waved, disconnected from the call, and sent a Bright Stars gift.
Renee Jennings stretched and glanced at the time. She had already been streaming for four hours.
She raised a hand to knead her shoulder. "I’ve been sitting here for so long. It’s almost time for dinner."
[You’ve worked hard, Renee! I wish I could reach through the screen and give you a massage.]
[If I’m not mistaken, the streamer is about to sign off.]
Renee Jennings’s lips curved into a slight smile. "You’re smart. You’re not mistaken."
She was indeed getting ready to end the stream and have dinner.
Although a few people were clamoring for her to stay on, most were understanding that she’d been sitting in front of the camera for so long.
[You’ve worked hard, streamer!]
[Go sign off and get some rest.]
[When’s the next stream?]
"Hard to say," Renee Jennings said, putting down her water glass. "I’ll post a notice before my next stream. Thanks for all your support. Goodbye."
She waved and ended the stream.
The phone screen went dark, and her fur babies immediately swarmed her.
Bella yapped proudly. "Renee, I’ve been a very good girl! I would never sneak out to play like Oreo!"
Renee Jennings laughed and ruffled her snowy, fluffy head. "Yes, my Bella is the best-behaved girl."
The other dogs also vied for attention, boasting about themselves, their fur flying through the air.
A little while later, Zane and Jasmine came up to call her for dinner.
Renee Jennings sat down at the dining table and noticed Diana Jennings wasn’t there. "Huh? My sister isn’t back yet?"
"Diana sent a message. She said she’s working overtime at the company," Rhea Dempsey replied while ladling soup.
"Overtime?" Renee Jennings frowned slightly. ’Diana just said a few days ago that work has been really chill. Why would she need to work overtime?’
She hesitated for a few seconds before picking up her phone to message Diana.
When she opened the app, she saw a red notification badge on her contacts list.
After messaging Diana, Renee Jennings tapped on her contacts and saw a new friend request.
’Zoe Morgan again!’
’What on earth does she want?’
Renee Jennings’s eyes narrowed. She tapped the screen and accepted the friend request.
"Renee, what’s wrong?" Rhea Dempsey asked with concern, noticing her serious expression.
Renee Jennings put down her phone and smiled. "It’s nothing. I’ll tell you once I figure it out."
"Alright," Rhea Dempsey nodded.
After dinner, Renee Jennings checked her phone. Diana hadn’t replied to her message.
Her fine brows furrowed. Feeling a little uneasy, she took Zane and Jasmine out for a walk and gave her sister a call.
The phone rang for a long time. Just as Renee Jennings thought Diana wouldn’t pick up, her sister’s deliberately hushed voice came through the receiver. "Renee."
"Sis, are you working overtime?" Renee Jennings asked.
