Chapter 454: Chapter 454: New Bride, Have a Son Soon
"I’m not sure, either." JessicaLovesLife shook her head. "He’s never mentioned his ex-wife to me."
Renee Jennings asked curiously, "Well, has he told you the reason for the divorce?"
"I did ask him about that before we started dating," JessicaLovesLife said. "He said his ex-wife was the one who initiated the divorce. Apparently, she wanted to move to a different city for her career."
[That’s definitely a lie. I mean, what century are we in? Since when do you have to get divorced just to move to another city for your career?]
[Yeah, seriously. High-speed rail and planes are so convenient now; they could’ve seen each other whenever.]
[Either he’s lying to you, or his ex-wife was lying to him.]
"Teacher Jessica," Renee Jennings couldn’t figure it out either, so she asked directly, "how do you want me to help you?"
"My husband’s family has a dog, Goldie." JessicaLovesLife let out a soft sigh before continuing, "I’d like to ask the streamer to help me ask Goldie whose toys are those in the house."
As if remembering something, she added, "Actually, I tried asking my mother-in-law about it, but she just hemmed and hawed and couldn’t give me a straight answer."
Renee Jennings’s eyebrow arched slightly. "That just proves this matter isn’t simple."
[They’re definitely all ganging up to hide something from you.]
[Teacher Jessica, get out of there!]
"Honestly, my mind is a mess." JessicaLovesLife grew more anxious as she read the bullet comments. "I really didn’t know what else to do, so I called into the stream."
[You’re so lucky, you got through on your first try!]
[Well, you’ve definitely come to the right person~~~ The streamer is guaranteed to solve it~]
"Alright, stop teasing," Renee Jennings said with a sigh. "Let me emphasize again: I’m not that amazing. I’m just a regular person who has to eat, sleep, and go number two every day."
[HAHAHAHA, you’re so pretty, and you still have to go number two?]
[I don’t care, Renee, you’re my goddess /rose emoji/]
"No more bantering with you guys." Renee Jennings got back to the topic. "Teacher Jessica, please take us to see Goldie."
"Okay." JessicaLovesLife nodded in agreement.
She walked along the concrete path, beads of sweat trickling down her forehead.
After about a three-minute walk, JessicaLovesLife turned into an alley where the sunlight was finally less intense.
JessicaLovesLife raised a hand to wipe the sweat from her face. "It’s really so hot today."
Renee Jennings sympathized deeply. "It really is. My furry kids can’t stand being outside; they’ve all run in here to freeload off my AC."
As she spoke, she lifted her phone to show the viewers the furry kids behind her. "They’re all here, not a single one is missing."
Bella grinned. "Hehe, Renee, we’re here to keep you company while you work!"
Pudding spoke the truth: "Mainly, we want to use the AC and listen to the gossip."
"I don’t know what to do with you guys." Renee Jennings placed the phone back on its stand.
JessicaLovesLife wasn’t home yet, but from a distance, she could see her mother-in-law chatting with a few neighborhood women by the door.
She lowered her voice and asked, "Streamer, my mother-in-law is at the front door. Can you please not make a sound for a moment?"
Renee Jennings: "Of course."
When JessicaLovesLife reached her doorstep, the neighborhood women enthusiastically greeted her in their broken Mandarin.
"The new bride is back! Come, sit and chat with us."
"This new bride’s got some wide hips, looks like she’ll be good for child-bearing. Any kids yet?"
"New bride, you should have a son soon so your mother-in-law can hold a big, chubby grandson!"
JessicaLovesLife was quite intimidated by interacting with these elders and could only manage an awkward smile. "Aunties, I need to use the restroom. I’ll chat with you all later."
After speaking, she called out to her mother-in-law, "Mom."
The mother-in-law, fanning herself with a cattail fan, asked, "How come you came back alone?"
"I came back to use the restroom," JessicaLovesLife replied.
"Go on, then." The mother-in-law waved her cattail fan.
JessicaLovesLife entered the house and let out a long sigh of relief.
[Oh my god, that atmosphere is so suffocating.]
[Pushing for kids right after she got married. These people are so annoying.]
[Seriously, those gossipy neighbors are so obnoxious. What business is it of theirs whether she has kids or not? I can’t even.]
[These busybodies, I just want to shut them up!]
Seeing the bullet comments, JessicaLovesLife’s face lit up with surprised delight. "So it turns out nobody likes this kind of atmosphere. I thought it was just me."
"It’s not your problem," Renee Jennings said lightly. "Some people are just born to be nosy."
"This is the second thing that’s been bothering me since I joined this family," JessicaLovesLife said with a frown. "Everyone is pressuring me to have a child, but I have my own plans, and I don’t want them to mess up my timeline."
Renee Jennings: "In a situation like this, you should just be direct."
"I actually have, but everyone says that at my husband’s age, he can’t afford to wait." JessicaLovesLife was exasperated.
[He can’t afford to wait, yet he marries a young wife? He can’t have his cake and eat it too.]
[Girl, you’ve got a lot going for you. What were you thinking?]
[I get the feeling your mother-in-law isn’t easy to get along with either. Those neighbors were talking to you like that, and she didn’t say a damn thing.]
JessicaLovesLife’s feelings were complicated as she read these comments.
Renee Jennings gently changed the subject. "Jessica, is Goldie home?"
JessicaLovesLife: "Yes, I saw it playing with water in the yard when I came in."
"Is it convenient to talk in the yard?" Renee Jennings asked.
JessicaLovesLife thought for a moment. "I’d better lure it inside with some treats."
She was afraid the people at the door would hear.
Renee Jennings: "Okay."
JessicaLovesLife put down her phone, found some snacks, and successfully lured Goldie into the living room.
Getting a tasty treat, Goldie wagged its tail furiously. "Yummy, yummy! New bride, I want more!"
It stuck out its tongue, its puppy-dog eyes staring expectantly at JessicaLovesLife.
Renee Jennings chimed in at the right moment, "You can have more treats, but you have to answer a question."
"Answer what question?" Goldie tilted its head slightly. "I can’t answer if it’s too hard, woof!"
"Teacher Jessica, get Goldie in the frame," Renee Jennings reminded her.
"Okay!" JessicaLovesLife quickly complied.
Goldie stared curiously at the phone screen. "What’s this? Are you taking my picture? How come there’s a human in there?"
"It’s not a picture," Renee Jennings chuckled and explained. "This is a livestream. Ever heard of it?"
"Heard of it, heard of it." Goldie nodded furiously. "I’ve seen lots of humans watch livestreams. They say you can find anything on a livestream, and it’s really true! There’s even a human who can understand me!"
"The world is full of wonders," Renee Jennings said with a slight smile. "My name is Renee Jennings. What’s your name?"
"I don’t think I have a name," Goldie said. "Usually, when people call me, they just go ’psst-psst-psst.’ Is my name Psst-psst-psst?"
"Well, would you like a name?" Renee Jennings asked.
Goldie’s eyes suddenly lit up. "Yes! What could my name be?"
"Pick one: Goldie or Biscuit."
"Then I definitely want to be called Biscuit! Biscuits are so delicious!"
"Alright, then you’ll be Biscuit from now on." A flicker of a smile passed through Renee Jennings’s eyes. "Biscuit, does that make us friends now?"
Biscuit: "Definitely friends!"
