Chapter 420: Inky’s Great Contribution
Chapter 420: Chapter 420: Inky’s Great Contribution
"Renee, come and see if this is the little swallow from this morning." Zachary Conway turned to look at her. "It looks just like it."
’A swallow?’
"Is that Inky?" Renee Jennings got up and walked over.
Zachary Conway stepped aside, and Inky immediately flew in through the crack in the window. "Renee!"
"It really is you." Renee Jennings’s expression softened, the grave look on her face finally giving way to a smile. "How did you know I was here?"
She held out her hand, and Inky folded its wings, landing on the web of her thumb.
"Robin went to your house to find you, but Blueberry said you weren’t home," Inky chirped, explaining. "Robin guessed you were probably here, and Robin was right!"
Inky was feeling quite pleased with itself.
"Did you need to find me for something urgent?" Renee Jennings asked, a smile playing on her lips.
"Yes!" Inky nodded emphatically and got down to business. "Robin asked the Prince of Vampire Bats for help finding that big villain, and we’ve already found him!"
At this, Renee Jennings’s eyes lit up, her voice a mixture of surprise and disbelief. "Inky, you found him?"
"We did!" Inky said. "And Robin deliberately pooped on his head!"
"Nicely done." Renee Jennings’s eyes crinkled into a smile as she gave it a thumbs-up. Then she turned to share the good news with the others. "Inky found his tracks."
Zachary Conway’s eyes widened. "It came all this way just to tell you that?"
"Yes," Renee Jennings nodded. "It went to my house to look for me, and when it heard I wasn’t there, it came here."
"That’s so smart!" Kyle Morgan exclaimed. "How did it know where this place was?"
Renee Jennings replied, "I’ve brought it here before."
"It’s seriously so clever." Sawyer was starting to admire the little swallow.
Henry Stark looked at Inky and also gave it a thumbs-up. "You did great. When the case is closed, we’ll throw a victory party for you."
"For who?" Renee Jennings asked uncertainly.
The man’s thin lips curved into a slight smile. "For Inky."
"Wow." Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow, then reached out and gently tapped Inky’s head. "Our little Inky is about to be a big hero."
She said with a smile, "Alright then, let’s have our great hero, Inky, lead the way to find that villain."
Inky grew a little bashful, saying quietly, "Renee, Robin isn’t a great hero. Robin just wants to help you catch the bad guy."
Hearing the little one’s words, Renee Jennings’s heart warmed, and she was deeply moved. "Thank you."
Inky replied, "You’re welcome. Robin will take you to him."
"Okay." Renee Jennings looked at Henry Stark. "Let’s go now."
The black SUV cut through the night as Inky stood on Renee Jennings’s shoulder, giving directions. "We’re almost there!"
Renee Jennings repeated softly, "Almost there."
"Got it," Sawyer replied.
"We’re here!" Inky cried out.
Renee Jennings rolled down the window, and the little bird immediately flew out to lead the way.
The SUV stopped at the entrance to the residential complex, and Renee Jennings opened her door, got out, and walked over to Inky.
Sawyer parked the car, and Henry Stark and Levi Hollis got out from the back.
The group followed Inky to the base of Building 6. Seeing them, Shadow and Shadow immediately flew over.
"Inky, Renee, you’re here."
Renee Jennings smiled. "Shadow and Shadow, thank you for your help."
"To be honest, we didn’t help much," one of the Shadows said truthfully.
The other Shadow added, "King was the one who helped this time."
A Noctus was also watching the scene, but he remained reserved and didn’t take the initiative to strike up a conversation.
"Okay." Renee Jennings nodded. "I understand. I’ll be sure to thank him."
Hearing this, the Noctus began to feel a quiet sense of anticipation.
"So, the person we’re looking for lives in this building?" Renee Jennings asked.
"Yes!" one of the Shadows answered quickly. "We’ve been watching. He hasn’t come out."
Inky added, "But Robin doesn’t know which floor he lives on. There were too many people around earlier."
"Understood." Renee Jennings glanced at Henry Stark and the other two men. "We’ll probably have to check the surveillance room to identify him."
"Right," Henry Stark said calmly. "Let’s go to the property management office."
The group headed to the property management office. When the balding, middle-aged manager saw their police IDs, he instantly grew nervous. "Officers, don’t tell me there’s been a murder in our complex?"
"No need to be nervous," Levi Hollis reassured him. "We’re just here looking for someone. We’ll need your cooperation."
"Of course, of course!" The balding manager nodded eagerly. "I understand. We will cooperate fully with the police. What do you need from us?"
Henry Stark said, "We need to see the elevator surveillance footage for Building 6."
"Right, right, the surveillance room is this way." The balding manager led them toward the room.
Renee Jennings turned her head to ask Inky, who was still on her shoulder, "Was it dark when you found him?"
"It was," Inky said. "It was already very dark."
"Okay." Renee Jennings thought for a moment, then said quietly, "Let’s start the search from seven-thirty."
Inky stared at the monitor until its little eyes grew tired. "Maybe Robin should go get Shadow and Shadow to help watch."
It was worried it might miss him.
Renee Jennings nodded. "Okay, I’ll go get them."
She called Shadow and Shadow over to help watch the monitor. They watched until 8:47, when the three little creatures cried out in unison.
"That’s him!"
"I see him!"
"There he is!"
Renee Jennings immediately said, "Pause."
Levi Hollis instantly clicked the mouse. "Is this him?"
He moved the cursor over a young man in a black T-shirt.
"Not him," Inky chirped, shaking its head. "It’s the male in the white clothes."
"This one?" Renee Jennings pointed to a man in a white shirt and metal-rimmed glasses. "Is that right?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" one of the Shadows said quickly. "That’s him!"
Levi Hollis immediately zoomed in on the man’s face, took a picture, and sent it to the squad.
"Manager Lawson, do you recognize this resident?" Henry Stark asked.
The balding manager had been staring curiously at the swallow and the bats. Startled by his name being called, he quickly snapped back to attention. "Ah, what was that? I didn’t quite catch it."
Henry Stark repeated the question.
The balding manager squinted at the man on the screen. "Yes, that’s one of our residents, Teacher Quinn."
"Teacher Quinn?" Sawyer asked in surprise. "He’s a teacher?"
"That’s right," the balding manager nodded. "I hear he’s a university professor, even. Pretty impressive for someone so young."
As he spoke, Henry Stark’s burner phone suddenly rang.
He looked at the unknown number on the screen, his dark brows furrowing slightly. "This might be him."
Renee Jennings looked at him. "Should Sawyer take it, or should I?"
Henry Stark thought for a moment. "You’d better take it. You were the one who spoke with him earlier."
The two of them stepped outside the surveillance room.
Renee Jennings took the phone, pressed the answer button, and sniffled before speaking. "Hello?"
A soft, eerie voice came from the earpiece. "Stella."
