Chapter 384: Kaiser’s Revenge?
Chapter 384: Chapter 384: Kaiser’s Revenge?
Renee Jennings tilted her head and looked at Sawyer. "It really is a Kaiser."
"Then why didn’t he go to the hospital for emergency treatment right away?" Sawyer found it strange. "He’s an adult. He should know what a Kaiser is, right?"
"It is strange." Renee’s slender brows furrowed slightly as she looked at the crows again. "Did you see what happened?"
"What do you mean?" a crow asked, confused.
Renee: "I mean, did you see that snake bite the man?"
"Yes!" said a crow. "We saw it very clearly!"
Renee’s eyes lit up. "Then can you tell me what happened?"
"Of course!" the crow agreed readily. "When that Kaiser showed up, all the rats and cockroaches in the room got scared and ran away."
"So that’s what happened." Renee nodded. "No wonder I couldn’t find any animals in the house."
"Yep!" the crow said. "Actually, we were a little scared too, but the snake didn’t attack us, so we didn’t leave."
Renee: "So what did you see? Can you give me the details?"
"Sure. I saw that snake slither into this house while the male human was still asleep."
"Right, the male human didn’t notice the snake had arrived."
"Oh, and that snake really hated the male human. I heard it cursing him the whole time, saying how despicable he was!"
"Exactly! The snake said the male human killed its wife and children, and it wanted him dead."
A look of confusion appeared in Renee’s eyes. "The male human killed its wife and children?"
The crow: "That’s what the snake said."
"Did the man wake up after it bit him?" Renee asked.
"Yes." The crow nodded. "The snake bit the human, and he woke up with a start. When he saw the snake, he was terrified and started screaming."
"Yeah, when he saw his hand was bitten, he probably wanted to get help, but the snake wrapped its tail around him so he couldn’t move."
Renee was utterly astonished by what she was hearing.
’Is this Kaiser here specifically to take a life?’
"Was the human still moving when the snake left?"
The crow shook its head. "No. The human collapsed on the floor and didn’t move at all."
"Okay." Renee looked at the crows, her eyes curving into a slight smile. "Thank you for the information."
She and Sawyer turned around and saw Mrs. Yardley standing not far away, talking on the phone with a sweet smile on her face.
The two exchanged a look and walked over.
"Mrs. Yardley," Sawyer called out.
Mrs. Yardley hastily hung up the phone. "Officer, is something wrong?"
Renee eyed her coolly. "Did your husband ever mention a Kaiser to you?"
"A Kaiser?" Mrs. Yardley thought for a moment, then said, "I think so. He went hiking with his friends last Friday night and said they ran into a Kaiser and almost got bitten."
"Did he say anything else?" Sawyer asked.
Mrs. Yardley shook her head. "No, I was busy at the time, so I didn’t ask for details."
"Alright." Sawyer and Renee went back into the house and told Henry Stark and the others what they’d learned.
After listening, everyone was silent for a few seconds before leaving Elias Yardley’s house.
On the way back to the station, Kyle Morgan couldn’t help but exclaim, "What is this situation? Revenge of the Kaiser?"
Levi Hollis frowned. "Is it because Elias Yardley killed the Kaiser’s wife and kids?"
"This just gets weirder and weirder!" Zachary Conway clicked his tongue in amazement. "That snake even knew to use its tail to stop Elias Yardley from getting help. That’s too smart..."

「Eastgate Villa.」
It was already one in the morning by the time Renee got home and washed up.
Lying in bed, she couldn’t stop thinking about the Kaiser.
’The system mission "Soothe The Snake King" must be referring to this Kaiser.’
’Where could it be now?’
Renee drifted off into a hazy sleep. Unexpectedly, her phone’s ringtone suddenly blared around five in the morning.
Thinking it was her alarm, she fumbled for the phone on her nightstand and squinted at the screen.
It wasn’t the alarm.
It was a call from Henry Stark.
Renee’s drowsiness vanished instantly. She threw off the covers, sat up, cleared her throat, and answered the phone. "Henry, do we have a case?"
"Yes." Henry Stark’s voice carried a hint of apology. "Sorry for waking you."
"Don’t be." Renee immediately turned on the light and got out of bed. "Are you guys coming to pick me up?"
"Yes. Take a minute and get ready."
"I don’t need a minute. I’m going to wash up now."
After hanging up, Renee went into the bathroom.
When she went downstairs, she saw the lights on and Glenn Zane, wearing an apron, mopping the floor.
"Zane." Renee walked over to her, her tone filled with its usual helplessness. "It’s only a little after five. Why are you up?"
"Renee, why are you up so early?" Glenn Zane wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand and said with a smile, "I got enough sleep, so I got up to work."
"The house isn’t that dirty, really. You don’t have to mop every day," Renee said. "Every other day is fine too."
Before Glenn Zane started working here, they only mopped every three to five days.
"Oh, I can’t do that. No way." Glenn Zane felt that since Renee paid her so well, she had to do more work to earn it.
"Just listen to me." Renee patted her on the shoulder. "Alright, Zane, I have to go out now."
"But you haven’t had breakfast!" Glenn Zane slapped her forehead, flustered. "I was planning to cook in a little while... Oh, what do I do now!"
"It’s okay, don’t worry." Renee smiled. "I’ll just grab a bite to eat outside."
Glenn Zane: "How about I make you a bowl of noodles right now? It’ll be quick!"
"I’m afraid there’s no time." Renee walked toward the entryway and called out, "It’s fine, Zane! You go get some more sleep. I’m leaving!"
She changed her shoes and walked out of the villa.
The cats and dogs heard her and all got up, crowding around her and chattering their good mornings all at once.
"Good morning, Renee!"
"Renee, you’re up so early today!"
"Morning, Renee!"
"..."
"Morning, everyone." Renee crouched down and ruffled each of their heads. "I have to work today."
"You work so hard," Blueberry said with concern. "It seems like you didn’t get much sleep last night! Aren’t you tired?"
Just then, Renee yawned. "A little, but work is work."
She could vaguely see a car pull up outside the villa’s main gate. "I have to go now. You all be good, and no fighting."
Blueberry watched her leave, meowing with a sigh. "Renee works so hard, having to go to her job this early."
"Why does Renee have to work?" Blossom asked, confused.
Pudding explained, "To earn money to support us! A big family like ours costs a lot to feed every day!"
Blossom’s furry face scrunched up. "Then I’ll eat a little less from now on."
"No, you can’t do that," Blueberry disagreed. "Eating too little makes you sick, and vet visits cost even more money! You have to eat well, take care of yourself, and try not to cause any trouble for Renee!"
Hearing this, the crowd of furry friends all nodded seriously in agreement.
