The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 331: That Person Is a Murderer

Chapter 331: Chapter 331: That Person Is a Murderer

PorkCongee saw the comments in the chat and reached out to pat the dog’s head. "What do you mean, ugly? He’s clearly very cute."

Hearing this, Beanie immediately barked warily, "Who are you calling ugly?"

Seeing his reaction, PorkCongee curiously asked Renee Jennings, "Renee, what’s Beanie saying?"

Renee: "He’s asking who you’re calling ugly."

PorkCongee blinked, secretly relieved that she hadn’t said anything bad about Beanie.

’So this little guy can actually understand people.’

"Joey, let me talk to him for a second," Renee Jennings said softly.

"Okay." PorkCongee switched to the front-facing camera, disconnected her Bluetooth earbuds, and held the phone screen in front of Beanie. Patting his head, she said, "Beanie, a lady wants to have a little chat with you."

Beanie stared at Renee Jennings on the phone and started barking, "You want to chat with me? Fine, let’s chat. I’ll agree to it, but it’s a shame you can’t understand what I’m saying."

"A moment ago, did you say that something felt ’off’?" Renee Jennings asked, her expression serious.

[Did the host figure something out?]

[Something’s definitely fishy!]

The long-time fans knew this was important.

Beanie was surprised for a moment. After recovering, his whole doggy face moved closer to the phone. "Wow, you’re amazing. You actually heard me."

"You’re very smart too." Renee Jennings smiled. "Can you tell me why you said things felt ’off’ just now?"

"Sure," Beanie agreed readily. "Because that man didn’t just come back from abroad."

Renee Jennings: "Then what?"

Beanie: "I heard them say that this two-legged male they’re introducing to the pretty lady as a boyfriend didn’t just get back from overseas. He just got out of prison."

Beanie didn’t understand what "prison" meant and let out a curious bark: "What does ’prison’ mean?"

Renee: "It means you did something bad and got locked up."

[Wha???]

[Locked up by who?]

PorkCongee was also completely bewildered. "Renee, who are you saying did something bad and got locked up?"

’Don’t tell me she’s talking about my blind date.’

Renee Jennings hadn’t figured out the whole story yet, so she didn’t say anything right away. "Joey, wait a moment. I’ll tell you after I get a clear picture."

"Okay." PorkCongee nodded emphatically. "Sorry to trouble you."

"It’s no trouble." Renee Jennings then continued chatting with Beanie.

At one point, someone called for PorkCongee to come eat barbecue. She raised her voice and said, "You guys go ahead and eat! I’m on the phone with a friend."

Another five minutes passed. Renee Jennings’s slender brows were tightly knitted, her fair face showing a grave expression.

"Renee, are you guys done talking?" PorkCongee asked nervously.

Renee Jennings said softly, "I’ve got the full story. This blind date of yours is no good."

[Why not?]

[Is he a bad guy?]

"He’s not a rich heir who just got back from overseas at all," Renee Jennings explained. "He just got out of prison."

"Huh?" PorkCongee gasped, her eyes widening in utter disbelief. "But..."

[Oh my god, lying about being overseas when he was in prison... I can’t even!]

[That also explains why he was so focused on the phone! It’s because he’s new to this kind of smartphone!]

[Smartphones have been common for a long time, right? If he’s never used one, doesn’t that mean he’s been in prison for a very long time?]

[Went abroad in middle school = went to prison in middle school?]

Seeing the color suddenly drain from PorkCongee’s face, Renee Jennings asked in a gentle voice, "Joey, did you come here alone, or are you with family and friends?"

"I..." PorkCongee couldn’t help but shiver. Goosebumps broke out on her arms. She pursed her lips and said, "I didn’t come alone. My friend’s older sister and her husband brought me."

"Besides your friend’s sister and brother-in-law?" Renee Jennings asked. "Is it just you?"

PorkCongee nodded. "Yes."

Renee Jennings frowned. "Send me your location. I’ll call the police for you. Officers will come to get you shortly. In the meantime, don’t eat anything they give you, understand?"

Hearing this, PorkCongee grew even more flustered and uneasy. "I-I understand, but... can you tell me why?"

"Your friend’s sister and brother-in-law are using you." Renee Jennings’s expression was grave. "The guy you’re on a blind date with is the younger brother of your friend’s brother-in-law’s boss. He went to prison over ten years ago for murder."

[Holy crap, he’s actually a murderer!]

[It’s not what I think it is, is it? Trying to get a promotion??]

[Using PorkCongee to suck up to the boss?]

PorkCongee saw the comments but still found it hard to believe. "They knew he was a murderer and they still set me up with him?"

Beanie had been listening to Renee Jennings and PorkCongee’s conversation the whole time when he suddenly heard footsteps approaching from a short distance away.

He turned his head and saw the man walking over with a few skewers of grilled meat.

"WOOF~ Smells so good~" Beanie could already smell the aroma.

Renee Jennings, suddenly on alert, lowered her voice. "Joey, I think that man is coming over."

Hearing this, PorkCongee looked back and, sure enough, saw the man with the flat-top haircut, wearing a white shirt and black trousers, walking toward her.

Her heart clenched. Fear enveloped her, and she was frantic. In a trembling voice, she asked, "What do I do? What should I do?"

Renee Jennings calmly reminded her, "Put your earbud back in first."

"Okay." PorkCongee obediently did as she was told, but she was so nervous that she dropped a wireless earbud on the grass.

She hurriedly bent down to look for it, but the flat-top man had already reached her side.

"Melody."

"Ah?" PorkCongee felt the earbud on the grass and forced herself to look up. "Y-Yes? What is it?"

The flat-top man squatted down in front of her and held out the skewers. "They told me to bring you something to eat."

Knowing the man before her was a former murderer, PorkCongee could only try her best to stay calm. She clutched her phone and gave a strained laugh. "Th-Thanks. That’s very thoughtful."

"Then eat." This time, the flat-top man pushed a skewer directly toward her mouth.

"I-I’ll eat it in a bit." PorkCongee shifted away slightly and pointed out, "I’m still on the phone with my friend."

"Don’t you have to hold the phone to your ear to talk?" the flat-top man asked curiously.

With a trembling hand, PorkCongee held up the wireless earbud. "N-No, you can use an earbud."

"How amazing." The flat-top man stared at the earbud in her hand and remarked with a sigh, "It’s really high-tech."

"It is," PorkCongee said with a hollow laugh. "Why-Why don’t you go sit over there first? I’ll come over after I’m done talking with my friend."

"Aren’t you going to eat the skewer?" the flat-top man asked.

PorkCongee had no choice but to reach out and take one of the skewers—chicken gristle. "Thank you."

The flat-top man remained where he was, not leaving. He stared at her and asked, "Aren’t you going to eat it?"

PorkCongee met his slightly displeased gaze and suddenly felt her skin crawl.
