Chapter 1618: No Chance of Meeting Again
Early the next morning, Chunhui Hall.
“Madam, the Commandery Princess has come to pay her respects to you.” Chun Fen’s voice was somewhat subdued.
Song Ci looked up and saw Niu Pan’er dressed in riding attire, her long black hair styled into a man’s bun, suitable for travel.
She came not only to pay respects but also to bid farewell.
As she leaves, who knows when they will meet again.
So everyone gathered at Chunhui Hall, red-eyed as they looked at Niu Pan’er.
Niu Pan’er also felt reluctant to part, and she knelt before Song Ci, pulling her robe aside, and respectfully bowed three times.
“I wish mother health and longevity as eternal as the southern mountains, and may you be safe year after year.”
Song Ci personally helped her up, touched her face, and with a smile, said, “Mother also wishes you safe travels, that all your wishes come true, and that your path is smooth.”
Niu Pan’er’s eyes reddened, tears fell down.
Song Ci’s wrinkled hands gently wiped her tears away with a handkerchief and smilingly said, “Don’t cry. You must take care, protect yourself, and if you can’t bear it, find a strong support, find a sturdy leg to hold onto.”
Niu Pan’er laughed upon hearing that.
She looked towards Madam Song and the others, choking up as she said, “Elder, second, and third sisters-in-law, with me leaving, who knows when we’ll meet again. I won’t be able to serve mother, so I’ll have to rely on you to fulfill that duty.”
Madam Song said with red eyes, “Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of mother here. As for yourself, in the Northeast, take care of your health.”
“Indeed, fourth sister-in-law, if the road doesn’t seem right, turn back immediately. At worst, we return to the capital and rest.” Jiang said, “As the saying goes, ‘As long as green mountains remain, there’s no need to worry about firewood’, as long as you live, the situation can be salvaged.”
“Yes.”
Lu said, “Fourth sister-in-law, take care of yourself and write often when you can.”
Niu Pan’er nodded, politely saluted them, and they hurriedly returned the gesture with a half-bow.
Song Ci then said, “It’s getting late, time to set off, lest you miss the next station and have to camp in the wilderness.”
This time heading to the Northeast in a hurry, Niu Pan’er traveled lightly, while other belongings would be slowly sent over by a convoy, and more would be brought by Song Zhiyu when he comes over in the future.
Niu Pan’er looked at Song Ci, seeing her smiling eyes, and finally reluctantly walked out, with Madam Song and the others escorting her.
Song Ci rested her hand on Nanny’s arm, walked out of the main house to see her off, her eyes glistening with tears.
With Niu Pan’er gone, she might never see this heroine daughter-in-law again.
Feeling something, Niu Pan’er turned around, knelt from a distance to Song Ci, bowed three more times deeply imprinting her image in her mind, before stepping out the courtyard gate.
“Madam, let’s return to the house too.” Nanny’s voice was soft.
Song Ci sighed, “Nanny, those who will see me off later, one less now.”
Compared to Song Ruqi in Jiangnan, Niu Pan’er is unlikely to return to the capital within ten years because Niu Shen is too young, she must wait for him to grow up.
So this farewell is a final goodbye for her, there is little chance of seeing each other again.
Nanny’s throat choked, holding her arm tightly, pretending to be cheerful, said, “So to wait for everyone, you must watch your diet and live long.”
Song Ci smiled silently, glanced up at the clear sky, knowing she probably can’t do it.
