Chapter 1669 Secret Actions Uncovered

Chapter 1669: Secret Actions Uncovered Chapter 1669: Secret Actions Uncovered Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation The Northern Army’s quota was going for 100 million star coins each.

“No,” Tobey Lapras shook his head firmly.

“The price has gone up.” “The price has gone up?” The old man’s heart sank.

Tobey looked him in the eye and stated, “200 million star coins.

Pay in full, and I guarantee you a spot in the Northern Army.” “This…” The old man hesitated, suspicious of Tobey’s demands.  They hadn’t even discussed any specifics, and now he was being asked to pay upfront.  What if he paid and Tobey disappeared?

Seeing the doubt in the old man’s eyes, Tobey sneered, “Are you worried I’ll run off with your money?” The old man felt embarrassed but remained uncertain.

Tobey turned away, dismissing him.

“Go back.

You clearly don’t know who I am or my connections.

How dare you approach me like this!” “If I didn’t know about your connections, I wouldn’t dare come here.

I’ve heard that the Northern Army’s commander is your uncle…” The old man’s words trailed off nervously.

“What did you say?” Tobey erupted, his temper flaring.

“The commander of the Northern Army is your uncle?” Colton Jansky echoed, stunned.

Who started this rumor?

“Tell me!” Tobey demanded angrily.

“Who spread this lie?

I’ll march my troops and hunt him down!” The grey-robed elder looked confused.  Had he been misinformed?

Colton intervened, “Spread whatever rumors you want.

If you want to join the Northern Army, it’s 200 million star coins.  “Can you really guarantee I’ll get in?” The old man remained skeptical.  Nearby, a hundred-strong black-armored squad approached.  At its helm was Ryker Schatzman, Luke Yates’s top general.

Tobey and Colton had dragged Luke into this mess.  When the truth came out, no one would believe Luke was innocent.

Ryker approached and bowed slightly.

“Hmm?” Tobey’s expression darkened.

Noticing the presence of outsiders, Ryker quickly adjusted his words.

“Boss Lapras, Boss Jansky, these are the nine gentlemen who have just paid their star coins.

I’ve brought them here to meet you.” With that, the nine elderly men were ushered forward.  They appeared remarkably aged, one even balding, worried he might pass away peacefully in bed shortly after joining the Northern Army—a notion that seemed absurd in their martial culture.

In the Northern Army, warriors rarely met their end in such passive circumstances.  Today, however, Tobey and his associates were setting a new precedent, possibly assembling an entire legion of elderly recruits, a prospect that would surely provoke fury from their superiors upon discovery.

“Boss Lapras!” The nine men bowed respectfully, hands cupped.

They were not naive; their years had honed their shrewdness.  Ryker’s reference to “Boss Lapras” had startled them—they knew him as the lieutenant commander of the Northern Army.

Prior to this meeting, they had thoroughly researched the Northern Army.  Its commander was a pivotal figure, and beside him stood the lieutenant commanders wielding significant authority over 100,000 elite soldiers—an influential role.  Unbeknownst to them, the two standing before him were lieutenant commanders, and Ryker was a regimental commander.

Tobey, seemingly indifferent, lazily commanded, “Show me your aura.” “Yes, sir!” The nine men released their formidable auras.

Among them, three were in the sixth realm, five in the ninth, and one in the twelfth of the life and death realm—an impressive lineup of cultivators.

Tobey recorded their names and kept a list for himself.  “Now, head to the Meteor Sea.

I’ve arranged for someone to assist you at the conscription office.” “Thank you, Boss Lapras!” The nine men expressed gratitude, knowing they now held guaranteed positions in the Northern Army, regardless of the time it took to arrive.

This was called securing a reservation in advance!

“Do you think Brother Braydon will let us off if he finds out what we did?” Colton muttered.

“At most, he’ll give us a beating.

What’s there to fear?” Tobey shrugged nonchalantly.

Braydon Neal hadn’t specified not sending over a batch of near-dead old men when he requested recruits for the Northern Army.  However, as Tobey and Colton’s operation expanded, they refined their approach.

Their reputation grew.

Thousands flocked daily to their modest shop, all elderly men eager to secure a spot in advance, some traveling from the far reaches of the universe.  Colton and company reaped the benefits—starting at 200 million star coins per head, the daily income quickly reached astronomical figures.

The Northern Army couldn’t ignore it forever.

News spread like wildfire.

In the main hall of the Northern Army Military Headquarters, Luther Carden’s face flushed with anger.  He slammed his palm on the table upon receiving the report from the imperial guard.  “Bring Tobey and Colton back.

If they resist, inform Deputy Commander Lazlo Abbott to apprehend them!” “Yes, sir!” The imperial guards departed swiftly.

To the Northern Army, the arrival of the imperial guards signaled serious business.

Reluctantly, Tobey and Colton complied with the summons.

Unbeknownst to them, they weren’t alone this time.

Luke, having woken up earlier, strolled in lazily with a cucumber in his mouth.

“Luther, what’s with the summon?” he grumbled.

“You’re not off the hook either!” Luther glanced at Luke, knowing he had only recently awakened and was likely innocent in this matter.  But Luke, ever the troublemaker, wasn’t having it.

Leader of the infamous three great calamities, and freshly endowed with a Cosmos Bank card containing a staggering 10 trillion star coins courtesy of Tobey upon his awakening, Luke was ecstatic over his newfound fortune.

Today, the trio assembled, fully aware of Luther’s intentions.

Colton stood behind Tobey, who stood behind Luke—the three brothers lined up in solidarity.

“Tobey, Colton,” Luther questioned coldly, “Are you two selling spots in the Northern Army’s recruitment?” “What nonsense!” Luke retorted immediately.

Even if faced with undeniable evidence, Luke wouldn’t confess, much like the time he secretly devoured the ashes.  During his tenure as commander, whenever complaints arose, he adamantly denied any wrongdoing to the governor office.  And he wasn’t about to change his stance now.

Luther slammed a list of names on the table, over 100,000 strong.

“The evidence is clear.

You three troublemakers still won’t own up to it?” “Hmph!

I won’t admit it.

Go ahead, hit me!” Luke began to act defiantly.

Luther snorted coldly.

“I’ve already reported this to Big Brother and informed Frediano.

The three of you can expect severe consequences.” “Since you’ve brought up my big brother, let’s have a proper discussion.

I am the Heavenly Son of the Northern Army, second only to my brother.

Everyone else must obey my commands!” Luke, ever the troublemaker, began spouting nonsense with a straight face.

After so many years of tomfoolery, Luke suddenly remembered he was Luke Yates, the Heavenly Son of the Northern Army.  Wasn’t it a bit too late for that realization?
