The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 573 - 571: Confession Letter

Chapter 573: Chapter 571: Confession Letter

Wang Dahai helped open the package, pulling out one small bag after another.

This particular package was filled with tasty treats: shredded squid, fish fillets, shrimp crackers, and other delicious snacks.

There was an especially large amount of the shredded squid and fish fillets, which were also the tastiest.

Xie Yun opened another package, which was full of clothes.

They had no brand labels, but the styles were excellent.

Xie Yun asked curiously, "Ye Ling, the workmanship and materials of these clothes are top-notch. Where did you have them made?"

Ye Ling chuckled. "My sister-in-law bought them for me directly from the clothing factory, so they didn’t put any labels on."

Xie Yun nodded. "I see. They’re probably made for export. But these clothes are definitely very trendy."

"Not necessarily. Sister Lingling’s factory also makes clothes for the domestic market. They sell very well in Shencheng," Ye Ling replied. "Fashion is starting to take off here in our country now. It’s only a matter of time before we catch up. It’s not like everything from overseas is better."

"Come on, have some snacks! Everyone come and try some. Oh, right, if you’re allergic to seafood—if you get itchy skin or little bumps—then you can’t eat these. So just be careful."

Some people were indeed allergic to seafood and couldn’t eat them.

As it happened, Wang Dahai was one of those people.

After eating some shredded squid, his lips swelled up.

Xie Yun roared with laughter, bending over. "Wang Dahai, you’ve got no luck with food! You can’t eat seafood."

Wang Dahai, with his sausage-like lips, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "But it’s so delicious, and I can’t eat it! Sigh, it’s my first time trying it. I just found out I’m allergic."

Just then, Ye Ling pulled out a bag of beef jerky from the bottom of the box. "This is beef jerky. You shouldn’t be allergic to this."

Hearing this, Wang Dahai’s eyes lit up. "I’ve eaten beef before. I’m not allergic to this."

The guys in the dorm were all curious.

"Ye Ling, aren’t you from Beijing? Why are your brother and sister-in-law sending you seafood snacks from Shencheng?" Wang Dahai asked while munching.

Ye Ling answered, "My big brother and his wife work in Shencheng. We only get together for the holidays. We don’t see each other often, but we’re very close."

"Shencheng, huh? That’s a huge city," Wang Dahai said with feeling. "I’ve never been. I’ll have to go check it out when I get the chance."

Ye Ling smiled. "You’ll have plenty of chances in the future!"

Just as he said that, a guy from the next dorm handed him a letter. "Ye Ling, a letter for you?"

Ye Ling was surprised and looked confused. "I just got back from the mailroom. How come I didn’t see a letter?"

The guy winked. "This is from Chen Mingzhen, the campus belle of the School of Economics. We’re from the same hometown, so she asked me to give it to you."

Hearing this, Ye Ling froze again. "Actually..."

Before Ye Ling could finish, the guy shoved the letter into his hand, turned, and left.

Ye Ling held the pink envelope, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

’Am I being confessed to?’

He knew Chen Mingzhen. He’d seen her at an open lecture at the School of Economics.

A girl had arrived late, come in through the back door, and sat in the back, right next to Ye Ling.

At the time, though, he was focused on the lecture and didn’t pay any attention to Chen Mingzhen.

When the class ended, Chen Mingzhen asked to borrow his notes.

Ye Ling hadn’t wanted to lend them out because he had other classes, but Chen Mingzhen had already taken them.

She later found him based on the name, department, and class written in the notebook.

After Chen Mingzhen returned the notes, they got to know each other through a few more encounters.

He never expected Chen Mingzhen to confess her feelings to him like this.

Actually, Ye Ling had a good impression of the pretty and poised Chen Mingzhen, who had a lively and cheerful personality.

However, it definitely wasn’t at the level of a confession.

Seeing Ye Ling staring blankly at the letter, Xie Yun hurried over. "Chen Mingzhen wrote you a letter? Is it for real?"

Wang Dahai asked enviously, "Can we open it and take a look?"

Ye Ling quickly put the letter away. Whether he accepted Chen Mingzhen’s feelings or not, he had to respect her and not let anyone else see the letter’s contents.

"No way!" Ye Ling chuckled, tucking the letter away safely.

Xie Yun said regretfully, "I can’t believe the first person in our dorm to start dating is actually Ye Ling."

Wang Dahai smiled. "It’s actually pretty normal. Ye Ling is handsome, gets good grades, has a good temper, and is great at basketball. It’s totally normal for girls to like him!"

Ye Ling frowned slightly. "Alright, stop talking nonsense. We’re just friends, not a couple. It’s not good for her reputation if you guys talk like that."

Wang Dahai nodded. "You’re right. We really shouldn’t spread rumors."

Ye Ling gathered his books. "I’m heading to class. Are you guys coming?"

"Yeah!" Wang Dahai and Xie Yun said quickly, and they all headed to the lecture hall together.

A few moments later, they arrived at the lecture hall.

When Chen Mingzhen saw Ye Ling, she immediately waved. There was an empty seat next to her. "Ye Ling, over here!"

Everyone else in the classroom turned to look at Ye Ling.

Ye Ling froze. He didn’t want to go over with so many people staring at him.

Just as he was about to head to the back, Xie Yun and Wang Dahai pushed him over to the seat next to Chen Mingzhen.

"You guys..." Ye Ling was exasperated, but since he was already there, it would be awkward to just walk away.

That scoundrel Xie Yun even pulled a pack of eel fillets out of his bag. "These are Ye Ling’s snacks. Have some."

Chen Mingzhen didn’t stand on ceremony and accepted them. "Thanks!"

Ye Ling sat down and started taking out his books.

Chen Mingzhen tore open the package and, while eating the eel fillets, turned her head to ask, "Did you read the letter I wrote you?"

"Not yet!" Ye Ling really hadn’t read it. After all, with those animals in his dorm watching him, he was too embarrassed.

Chen Mingzhen looked a little disappointed. "Since you haven’t read it, I’ll just say it to your face. I like you. I’m confessing to you. Will you be my boyfriend?"

Ye Ling froze, his face growing warm and beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

But he quickly calmed down and looked at Chen Mingzhen with a serene gaze.

"Chen Mingzhen, I’m very grateful for your affection. However, I don’t feel like I know you very well, so I think we should get to know each other first before deciding whether to become a couple."

Hearing this, Chen Mingzhen looked puzzled. "Isn’t dating the process of getting to know each other? It’s not like we’re getting married right away!"

Ye Ling chuckled softly. "It’s different. At the very least, you need a basic understanding of each other—whether your personalities are compatible, if your values align, your future plans... these are all things to consider..."

"Huh?" Chen Mingzhen was dumbfounded. "We’re just talking about dating. Does it have to be so complicated? Isn’t it as simple as me liking you and you liking me?"

Hearing her say that, Ye Ling became even calmer.

Her words made it clear this was just an impulsive act, a moment of infatuation.

"It’s not complicated, it’s fundamental," Ye Ling finished as the class bell rang.

The professor came in, and Ye Ling began to focus on the lecture.

Chen Mingzhen kept getting distracted, thinking, ’Ye Ling is clearly the same age as me, so why does he act like a stuffy old official?’

During the class, the professor asked students to stand up and answer a question, which happened to be about their future plans.

As luck would have it, Chen Mingzhen was called on.

Chen Mingzhen stood up gracefully and spoke about her plans. After graduating from university, she would apply to a foreign university to pursue a master’s degree, with the goal of working for a Fortune 500 company in the future.

The pen in Ye Ling’s hand paused for a moment. He had made a decision.
