The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1117: The Attitude Changed

Chapter 1117: Chapter 1117: The Attitude Changed

"What nonsensical rubbish are you babbling about?!" Another elder chimed in harshly, glaring at him. "She is clearly an exceptionally powerful high-tier cultivator, not a cripple!"

Before anyone else could argue further, Bai Xifeng calmly joined their conversation.

"Well, that was indeed me. I am that exact same Bai Xifeng, the good-for-nothing cripple who was incapable of cultivation." Bai Xifeng offered a faint smile. "Honestly, it has been nearly two whole years since I last heard anyone use that title."

The entire crowd went utterly speechless once again. That included Zhang Zhenyu and Ma Ruoxi, who stared at her in complete disbelief. They had never imagined that this formidable young woman, who had just effortlessly paralysed an entire room of cultivators with her sheer presence, had once been labelled a hopeless cripple.

"Are you truly that Bai Xifeng?" Zhang Wunjin asked, needing to confirm the truth for himself.

"Of course. Do you know of anyone else who dares to share my exact name?" Bai Xifeng countered playfully.

"No... certainly not." Zhang Wunjin murmured.

Then, to the shock of everyone present, the grand Patriarch bowed his head deeply toward the young girl.

"Your Excellency, I offer you my grandest gratitude for saving my grandson and his family. I am deeply, endlessly appreciative of your noble assistance." Zhang Wunjin said earnestly.

"There is really no need for lavish thanks." Bai Xifeng waved her hand nonchalantly. "It was simply a fair business transaction. I escorted Sir Zhang and his family safely back to your city, and he promised to pay me handsomely for my services."

Zhang Wunjin raised his head, a wry smile touching his lips.

"Hmm... be that as it may, I still owe you a massive debt of gratitude." Zhang Wunjin insisted warmly. "Were you satisfied with the food tonight? If it was not enough, I can immediately order the kitchens to prepare another feast for you."

"Hey everyone, do you want anything else to eat?" Bai Xifeng turned to consult her friends.

Her friends quickly shook their heads, completely stuffed and satisfied with the meal.

"We are going to head back to our guest courtyard to turn in for the night." Bai Xifeng said, pushing her chair back.

"Yes, of course. Please go and have a wonderful, peaceful rest." Zhang Wunjin nodded respectfully.

Bai Xifeng and her friends stood up together, offering a polite, proper bow to Zhang Wunjin before turning to leave the dining hall. As they walked past, the Zhang Family members who had been spouting vulgar, arrogant insults just minutes prior shrank into their seats, not daring to make even the slightest eye contact with any of them.

Once the young guests had departed, Zhang Wunjin turned his gaze back to his grandson, his face becoming intensely serious.

"Did you truly encounter a group of trained assassins on the road?" Zhang Wunjin asked softly.

"Yes, Grandfather. Not just once, but twice." Zhang Zhenyu stated with complete gravity. "The first time, Lady Bai wiped them out entirely on her own. The second time, her friends dealt with the threat instantly without Lady Bai even needing to lift a single finger."

He paused, casting a stern look around at his quieted family members before adding, "As I warned you all earlier, you must never judge others strictly by their youth. Every single one of those young travellers is far stronger than any of us."

"No one in this family is allowed to disturb or provoke their group under any circumstances! If you get caught offending them and end up getting beaten half to death, don’t expect me to step in and save you!" Zhang Wunjin shouted, his booming voice ringing through the silent dining hall.

"By the way, Grandfather, I have something crucial to discuss with you in private. Do you have some time right now?" Zhang Zhenyu asked, stepping forward.

Hearing the heavy, serious tone in Zhang Zhenyu’s words, Zhang Wunjin immediately nodded. "Follow me to my study."

Zhang Zhenyu turned to his wife, his expression softening slightly.

"Ruoxi, you can head back to our courtyard to rest after you finish eating." Zhang Zhenyu said gently.

"Hmm... I will." Ma Ruoxi responded with a reassuring nod.

Zhang Zhenyu stood up and followed Zhang Wunjin out of the dining hall. Seeing them leave, one of the senior elders instinctively stepped forward to follow them, but Zhang Zhenyu paused and held up a hand to stop him.

"I would like to speak with my grandfather alone." Zhang Zhenyu stated plainly.

"There is no need for any of you to follow us." Zhang Wunjin added, waving the elder back.

The elders nodded submissively and stayed behind, not daring to press the matter further against the Grand Patriarch’s order.

Moments later, Zhang Wunjin arrived at his private study room and pushed the heavy wooden doors open. Zhang Zhenyu followed him inside, closing and locking the doors behind them to ensure absolute secrecy.

"Alright, tell me. What is it that you wanted to discuss with me so privately?" Zhang Wunjin asked, taking his seat behind the grand desk.

Instead of answering immediately, Zhang Zhenyu reached deep into his inner chest pocket, pulled out a small item, and placed it firmly on the wooden table right in front of his grandfather.

The moment Zhang Wunjin’s eyes landed on the item, he froze in sheer shock. His eyes widened, and he instinctively leaned forward across the desk to get a closer look at the damning object.

"Y-You... You... Where on earth did you get this thing?!" Zhang Wunjin asked, his voice visibly trembling with disbelief.

"I took it directly from the corpses of the assassins." Zhang Zhenyu stated coldly.

"Impossible! How could common assassins possibly have an item like this in their possession?!" Zhang Wunjin blurted out, shaking his head.
