Chapter 1099: Fight With The Guards Part Two
Chapter 1099: Chapter 1099: Fight With The Guards Part Two
The first guard tried to capitalise on Ning Shoukai’s extended posture, slashing his sword toward the back of his neck.
Fortunately, Ning Shoukai’s sharp instincts kicked in. He snapped his head back just in time, feeling the wind of the blade pass inches from his skin.
Realising physical strikes were not working, the guard channelled his water elemental attribute, manifesting several sharp, floating ice-water arrows in midair! He flicked his hand, sending the projectiles shooting straight toward Ning Shoukai!
Seeing the elemental attack, Ning Shoukai instantly ignited his own spiritual energy, erecting a roaring wall of crimson fire before him! The sharp water arrows evaporated into harmless clouds of white steam the second they touched the intense flames!
Through the screen of steam, Ning Shoukai hurled his spear forward like a javelin!
Thump!
The guard did not even have time to react before the heavy spearhead struck him square in the centre of his chest, pinning him against a wooden pillar. He slumped dead on the spot.
"Ha! I have got two down now!" Ning Shoukai shouted victoriously.
"Don’t get distracted, idiot!" Xie Zixin’s sharp warning rang out from behind him!
Ning Shoukai instinctively ducked his head down. A gleaming sword sliced through the air directly above his scalp, cutting a few loose strands of his hair!
"Whoa! That was way too close!" Ning Shoukai gasped.
Thwip!
Behind him, Xie Zixin pulled back his longbow string and released an arrow. The shaft flew with terrifying velocity, striking the sneaky assassin directly between the eyes before he could recover from his missed strike. Infused with Xie Zixin’s wind elemental attribute, the arrow had moved far too fast for the man to even register, dropping him instantly.
While Ning Shoukai and Xie Jingguo were occupied on the main line, three opportunistic guards attempted to circle around their flank to reach Zhang Zhenyu’s vulnerable carriage!
Xie Qingge spotted their trajectory instantly.
"They are making a break for the carriage!" Xie Qingge shouted.
She and her twin brother, Xie Fengge, moved in perfect tandem. The twins stepped up directly in front of the carriage wheels just as the guards charged them.
Xie Qingge raised her delicate palm, unleashing a massive wave of raw wind force from her body!
BOOM!
The lead guard was hit by the atmospheric shockwave, sent flying backwards into the dirt before he could even get within five feet of her.
Xie Fengge moved like a flickering shadow! Utilising his wind attribute, he materialised beside another guard like a ghost, striking his shoulder joint with a precise palm thrust. The guard’s arm went completely numb, dropping his weapon. Before the man could process what happened, Xie Fengge swept his legs out from under him!
Thud!
The guard slammed hard onto his back, gasping for air.
"Don’t let a single one of them breach the perimeter!" Xie Qingge called out, her hands gathering glowing wind energy.
"I have got it!" Xie Fengge yelled, crossing his sword to block another heavy sword strike.
Clang!
The impact reverberated down his arm. This particular guard captain was physically stronger than the rest, pushing forward with heavy brute force and forcing Xie Fengge backward step by step! Xie Fengge gritted his teeth, holding the line.
Suddenly, Xie Qingge appeared at his flank! She delivered a swift wind-infused palm strike directly to the guard’s elbow, forcing his tight grip to snap open!
Taking instant advantage of the opening, Xie Fengge lunged forward, thrusting his blade straight through the captain’s chest! The guard slumped lifelessly to the cobbles.
Having cleared the rear guard, Xie Zixin surveyed the battlefield with analytical eyes. Unlike the hot-headed Ning Shoukai and Xie Jingguo, Xie Zixin had not rushed blindly into the fray. He was carefully tracking the guards’ tactical movements. There was something undeniably deliberate about how they fought. They were far too organised for common thugs.
Even though their individual cultivation bases were not particularly high, they were moving in a disciplined, interlocking combat formation. Whenever one guard was knocked out, another immediately stepped into the exact spot to fill the defensive gap.
"They are utilising an army battle formation!" Xie Zixin called out loudly to the group.
Xie Yanlin instantly caught his meaning. "Break their coordination nodes!"
"Leave it to me!" Xie Zixin sprinted forward.
He deliberately targeted the weakest link in their tactical line. As a guard swung a heavy sword at his shoulder, Xie Zixin tilted his upper body at an impossible angle, dodging the edge before slamming an elbow straight into the man’s sternum! The guard stumbled back in agony, disrupting the line.
"Just as I calculated!" Xie Zixin smirked.
He shifted his footing rapidly. This time, instead of striking the replacement guard who rushed up to cover the gap, Xie Zixin fired an explosive wind arrow directly at the cobbles between the replacement guard’s feet! The sudden explosion of dirt and stone destroyed the guard’s balance, causing him to fall backwards into his comrades.
The entire formation instantly collapsed into utter chaos!
"Now! Strike!" Xie Zixin yelled.
Xie Yanlin reacted instantly! He lunged straight into the gaping hole in their defences, his weapon sweeping outward in a wide, lethal arc that forced five guards to scatter in complete panic. Seeing the golden opportunity, Ning Shoukai charged straight into the centre of the broken squad with a boisterous laugh!
"Hahaha! Man, this is so much easier!" Ning Shoukai shouted, spinning his spear like a deadly vortex.
"Don’t get careless, Shoukai!" Xie Zixin warned again.
"I know, I know!" Ning Shoukai yelled back over the noise.
However, the exact moment the words left his mouth, a veteran guard materialised directly from the dust behind him, his heavy blade raised high for a backstab!
