Chapter 292: To Me, It’s Just Like Editing a Video
Gu Shengsheng had originally wanted to say, “That’s about right. You should go back and rest. We should both get a good night’s sleep.”
But before the words could leave her lips, Lu Shijing’s gaze deepened as he looked at her.
Then he asked, “Are we considered to be dating now? Or, when are we going to get our marriage license?”
Gu Shengsheng was speechless. ‘It sort of is, but it also sort of isn’t.’ She couldn’t quite explain their current relationship.
‘The ambiguous stage?’
As she thought this, Lu Shijing gave her the kind of look one would give a heartbreaker, his eyes filled with grievance.
“You don’t want to take responsibility for me.”
Gu Shengsheng: ?
“I think we need to be clear. Society is more open-minded these days. It was just a kiss that day; it’s not like… anything further happened. ‘Taking responsibility’ is too strong a phrase. Besides, I already returned the kiss!”
“It’s true that I have feelings for you, but relationships need to develop step by step, don’t you think?” she said, trying to be reasonable.
Lu Shijing looked at her without saying a word. Then, “I understand.”
Gu Shengsheng: ? ‘What does he understand?’
From Lu Shijing’s perspective, not rejecting him was as good as agreeing.
‘As long as there are no other rivals… Her career is the biggest rival, but that’s fine. It’s enough if her personal life is filled with just me.’
He would stick by her side day in and day out; he refused to believe he couldn’t secure his official status.
With that in mind, Lu Shijing looked up some relationship guides online before finally going to sleep.
Gu Shengsheng, on the other hand, wasn’t thinking about any of this and fell asleep without a care in the world.
The next day, the two of them went to the location they had arranged to meet the young girl.
It was a park. Gu Shengsheng sat on a park bench while Lu Shijing stood beside her, checking the time.
Before long, a young girl wearing a short skirt and carrying a backpack walked toward Gu Shengsheng.
She seemed shy, even a little nervous.
“Sister Shengsheng,” she said. “I didn’t expect it to be you.”
Gu Shengsheng said, “You know who I am?”
“Did you think I was just an ordinary buyer before? Now that you know it’s me, you want to leave?”
“Um… I’m not wearing any makeup.” Her face was flushed, and she was very nervous.
But her face was radiant and smiling as she looked at Gu Shengsheng.
Lu Shijing: “…” ‘Something’s off.’
Then, Xia Tian noticed Lu Shijing next to Gu Shengsheng. She said, “Are you and your ex-husband back together?” There was a hint of disappointment in her voice.
Gu Shengsheng said, “Yes, we’re dating.”
She didn’t explain further and just asked, “Did you bring the item we agreed to trade for?”
“I brought it.” She placed the item in front of Gu Shengsheng.
Gu Shengsheng looked at it and paused.
Xia Tian immediately explained, “Sister Shengsheng, this isn’t real. This is just something I sell online for fun, so it’s very cheap.”
It was a very ordinary piece of blue and white porcelain, completely different from the photo Gu Shengsheng had seen online.
She said, “Xia Tian, this doesn’t match the photo you posted. The reason I’m here waiting for you is because I’ve already made my own judgment.”
Xia Tian kept her head down. “I’m sorry, Sister Shengsheng, I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“What’s the point of you insisting this stuff is real? Whether it’s good or bad has nothing to do with you. Or what, are you planning to get your hands on the real thing and report me to the Da Ying Museum?”
Xia Tian was clearly emotionally unstable.
She rarely socialized with friends and was used to being a loner.
As a result, she wore her emotions on her sleeve.
Both Gu Shengsheng and Lu Shijing could see that she was agitated.
Lu Shijing said directly, “The goods you have are all real, aren’t they?”
“I’m just a young girl, an ordinary international student. If you’re going to talk like that, I’m not selling. It’s just a few dollars’ worth of stuff. I already agreed to meet in person, and now you have such high demands.”
Then she hurriedly turned to leave.
Gu Shengsheng said, “Xia Tian, you’re a good kid. Don’t let this mess up your future.”
“A student should focus on their studies, not get involved in things like this.”
“I’m not here with any ill intent. If you’re in some kind of trouble, we can solve it together. And I need to be clear about something: if you have all the artifacts, how do you plan to ship them back to the country?”
“Right now, so many people are watching like hawks. Eagle Country won’t let a single artifact be shipped out. Without help from Huaxia, without help from cultural heritage organizations, do you really think you can get them out?”
Gu Shengsheng’s tone was earnest and pleading as she said this.
Her face was filled with exasperation.
Xia Tian froze for a moment. Seeing Gu Shengsheng’s concern, she carefully spoke up, “Don’t worry, Sister Shengsheng. I have money.”
“I have more money than I can spend, so I won’t go to jail.”
Gu Shengsheng: “…”
Lu Shijing: “…”
The corners of their mouths twitched. ‘Is she flexing on us?’ It was rather unexpected.
But in doing so, she had also admitted that she was behind it all.
Since the matter was confirmed and they had found the culprit, this was no longer a good place to talk.
Xia Tian, with her backpack on, followed behind Gu Shengsheng.
When she heard Gu Shengsheng say they were going to a hotel, she got a little excited. “Sister Shengsheng, if we go to a hotel, does that mean I can stay with you?”
“I really admire you! I watch your livestreams all the time. You’re the inspiration for my future.”
Lu Shijing’s icy voice cut in, “No. Can’t you sleep by yourself?”
Xia Tian: “…” Later, the three of them finally talked things over in Gu Shengsheng’s hotel room.
At first, Gu Shengsheng assumed Xia Tian had used her “money power” to hire a lot of people.
But Xia Tian said very seriously, “I only hired people for the moving and for grabbing the goods from inside. There are professionals you can hire for that kind of work here. If you pay them well, they’re very efficient.”
“But the planning, the actual strategy, that was all me.”
Gu Shengsheng looked at this delicate-looking young girl, still just a student, and found it incredible.
“How did you do it?”
“Security has been on high alert these past few days, and everyone is desperately investigating. But you managed to take things time and time again, right under everyone’s noses.”
“How did you bypass the surveillance and all the different systems?”
Because every artifact would trigger an alarm if it was moved, let alone taken away completely.
The museum staff aren’t idiots. They wouldn’t just leave the artifacts sitting there for Xia Tian to come and take!
So Gu Shengsheng didn’t understand how she could have planned it all by herself.
Xia Tian said, “I started planning a long time ago. The first time I came here, people were discriminatory toward me, and I was obviously not happy about it.”
“I controlled all this because I know a thing or two about computers. I’m a homebody, and I like tinkering with this stuff.”
“As for the surveillance cameras, that’s actually not hard. I just spliced and switched the feeds, just like editing a video.”
