Chapter 249 - 247: All for Nothing?
Chapter 249: Chapter 247: All for Nothing?
Gu Shengsheng dragged the two of them out.
She stopped in front of Wang Biao.
"Mr. Wang." Her voice was calm. "What do you think you’re doing?"
"...Madam? Uh, these two young ladies are just a couple of girls sponsored by the foundation. Don’t misunderstand. We’re all law-abiding."
Gu Shengsheng nodded. "Oh, I just looked at the accounts. Four people were recently sponsored: two boys and two girls. The girls are named Ding Hong and Zhang Xiao."
"I presume that would be them."
One of the girls said earnestly, "Big Sister, that’s us."
"Shut up!" Wang Biao snarled through gritted teeth.
Gu Shengsheng’s face was filled with disgust. "Instead of wasting your energy coming here to disgust these children, you should be thinking more about how to atone for your crimes!"
"As for your behavior, I’ve already reported it to the police. I hope for your sake you’ll be forthcoming and confess when the time comes."
"What?" Wang Biao’s face was a mask of shock and disbelief.
"Madam! Everyone here respects you so much. Big Brother Zhai Mi and I have been treating you like a queen. But look at what you’ve done!"
He grew agitated and pulled out a steel pipe. He usually used that pipe to deal with people who didn’t listen.
Now, facing Gu Shengsheng, his face was full of malice. "Let’s see what you’re going to do now, Madam!"
"This whole area is our turf. We can do whatever we want. Did you really think this restaurant was just some ordinary, fancy place?"
"Did you really think we could have gotten this far without someone backing us?"
Gu Shengsheng glanced at her phone, knowing that Lu Shijing had already handled things on his end.
Wang Biao quickly made a call, his voice rough. "What the hell are you waiting for?! Get everyone up here right now! Top floor!"
Gu Shengsheng, however, wasn’t worried.
The two young girls tugged on Gu Shengsheng’s arm. "Big Sister..."
One of them said timidly, "Big Sister, did we get you into trouble? You should go, quickly!"
"They hit really hard!"
Gu Shengsheng patted her head. "It’s okay. He won’t be able to call anyone."
Ten minutes passed.
Wang Biao was losing his mind. "What’s going on?" he demanded repeatedly. "What the hell happened?!"
Gu Shengsheng looked at him, her voice light. "Oh, it’s nothing much. It’s just that your Zhai Mi is with Mr. Ryan."
"This place was supposed to be under your control, but now... it seems the people in control have all been rounded up."
Wang Biao knew instantly that he had lost. He immediately put on a fawning expression for Gu Shengsheng. "Madam. I admit, I’ve lost. Really, I... I had no idea about any of this messy business. Please, just let me go!"
"I’ll be forever grateful to you. I was just too agitated today, that’s why I was disrespectful. I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry."
"Look, how about I beg you? Should I get on my knees?" As long as he could save his own skin, Wang Biao sounded more sincere than anyone.
Gu Shengsheng asked, "Do you know anything about a young woman who came to make a donation yesterday? She’s a friend of mine. We can’t get in touch with her."
At first, he looked confused, but then he seemed to remember something. "Yes, yes, I know."
"That young lady is very pretty. A good girl. She’s helped our foundation out a lot."
"Right now, she’s being treated to the best food and drink. What else would we do? Miss Gu, but you probably won’t be able to find the address."
"How about I take you to her?"
"I’ve really turned over a new leaf. I don’t want to go to jail. I’ll grant you any wish, as long as you’re willing to let me go."
His face was filled with desperation.
Gu Shengsheng looked at the two young girls flanking her. They both looked bewildered, clearly having never been exposed to this sort of thing before.
Gu Shengsheng said, "Let’s go."
Wang Biao was no threat to her.
The four of them got in a car, with Gu Shengsheng in the back seat and Wang Biao driving.
"That young lady has always helped our foundation," he said. "Why would we ever harm her?"
Gu Shengsheng said nothing, simply remarking, "Well, it’s a good thing, then. In her family, she’s the only daughter, and they can casually pull out millions. Her mother is a textbook tycoon."
"If you had touched her, you probably wouldn’t have even made it to the station. You would have been dealt with out here."
Wang Biao trembled and swallowed hard.
At first, he hadn’t really been scared. ’It’s just some messy business, right?’
But now that Gu Shengsheng had said that, he was instantly on high alert.
’Thank God I saw she was a major donor and didn’t touch her.’
’Otherwise, it would have been a total disaster. The people from Beijing City really are big shots, and every single one of them is bad news!’
Wang Biao was now burning with anxiety.
Gu Shengsheng also knew that Zhai Mi was only being temporarily detained—and by Lu Shijing’s private means, at that. It was too risky.
Besides, it was just drunken rambling. A recording like that would, at most, trigger an investigation.
They had been entrenched in Rui City for so many years; they must be very good at cleaning up their messes. They probably had nothing to worry about.
Therefore, Gu Shengsheng figured hard evidence would be difficult to find.
And so, an idea came to her.
She cleared her throat and said, "My husband just told me. Zhai Mi said that you were the one behind all the filthy business with the foundation."
"And it’s true. Now that I think about it, these two girls came to you, and it seems everyone goes to you to get things done."
As Gu Shengsheng said this, Wang Biao chuckled. "I don’t understand what you’re saying, Madam."
"Anyway, I don’t know anything about the foundation. You said you want to go to the police station? I’d rather not. It’s bad for business. And these two little girls are just kids. Can you really believe a word they say?"
"It’s that simple. I don’t think I need to say any more."
Clearly, after having a moment to recover, Wang Biao realized that if this was just a matter of words, a trip to the police station was no big deal.
’Besides, my men can’t be mobilized; we’re surrounded by this couple’s people. Who’s the real gangster here, anyway?!’
He could sort things out clearly when they got to the police station.
He was acting all cocky again.
Gu Shengsheng crossed her arms, remaining composed.
She had long expected him to be the type to switch sides with the wind. For now, she just sat quietly in the car.
Gu Shengsheng said, "Which estate is it in? We’ve been driving this far and we’re still not there?"
"Don’t be impatient! We’re almost there."
"I won’t tell you the exact location. After all, this is my lifeline. I’m not going to lie to you, but I’m not going to tell you, either."
"Otherwise, your husband won’t let me off the hook."
Gu Shengsheng smiled. "And what makes you think *I* will let you off the hook?"
Her words were spoken so lightly, yet for a moment, Wang Biao was stunned.
Then he gave a helpless laugh. "You two, husband and wife, really work well together. We only let our guard down because we trusted you and your husband. So, Madam, what makes you think we could be taken down so easily?"
As he spoke, a figure appeared in front of the car: Zhai Mi.
Zhai Mi, dressed in a suit and wearing sunglasses.
