Therefore, Wei Zilin and Shen Zongyi went off to get their rides, leaving the two women waiting at the front door.
Soon, a Cayenne and a Jaguar stopped at the front door next to each other. Zheng Yuntong quickly recognized Wei Zilin and Shen Zongyi’s cars.
Thus, she went for the Jaguar without any hesitation, pulled open the door to the front passenger seat, and proceeded to get into the car.
At the same time, Shen Zongyi lowered the car window and pointed at the Cayenne in front of Xu Moyan. “President Wei isn’t familiar with the route. I’m afraid you’re going to have to lead the way.”
Xu Moyan nodded. It did not sound like anything was amiss, so she walked toward the car.
Only after she sat in the car did she realize that she was alone with Wei Zilin in that tight space. Once she realized this, Xu Moyan started to get nervous.
This was different than the feeling of butterflies in your stomach when face-to-face with a crush. This nervousness was almost mixed with the anxiety and anticipation of meeting an idol.
Seated next to her right now was her idol whom she had fawned over for the past six years. It was only recently that she realized he did not just have a good singing voice, but also a personality that stood out amongst a crowd — a person whose God-like charm could make any woman swoon over him.
Under this heavily layered anxiety, Xu Moyan found her tongue all twisted up. There was a nagging feeling that no matter what she said or did, she would make a fool of herself. She had been doing so many stupid things in front of her idol that she must have left quite a terrible impression on him by now.
Her fingers fumbled to put on the seatbelt and then, she proceeded to give Wei Zilin directions to her place. “Turn right after this, then turn left at the second turning further up front.”
After this, she fell quiet and stopped talking. The car was filled with the smell of the car freshener, but it was the kind that irritated the nose. As a matter of fact, it smelled rather refreshing. Next to her, Wei Zilin wore a grey woolen sweater that still smelled like it was fresh out from the wash; this smell of soapy detergent was topped off with a hint of aftershave.
Perhaps because it was not a working day, but Wei Zilin did not apply any cologne.
Because of her extreme nervousness, Xu Moyan’s senses became even sharper. The scent he was exuding was especially intimate, while seeing him in such a casual state out of the limelight and free from the restrictions of work made him look as free-spirited as a summer breeze.
Wei Zilin gave her a silent glance. In the drowning silence, his gentle and elegant voice suddenly said, “Miss Xu, you seem to be very nervous when you’re with me.”
Xu Moyan did not expect Wei Zilin to state this so directly and was completely taken aback. She lowered her head and blushed as she replied, “Yeah, a bit.”
She did not dare to raise her head, nor was she aware of what her idol currently though of her.
At work, she was outspoken when she needed to be. However, in front of Wei Zilin, all of her outspokenness was thrown out the window and she instantly became as meek as a sheep.
She wanted to be more relaxed but she could not do so. She guessed that it was precisely because she wanted to leave a good impression on Wei Zilin and show him her best side that she was behaving as unnaturally as she was right now.
She heard Wei Zilin’s gentle chuckle. Deep-throated and wonderfully husky, it felt like her entire body softened into jelly when it graced her ears. She was so close to letting out a moan.
‘Great Lord, please stop arousing me with your sinful laughter!’ Xu Moyan thought.
“Honestly, you don’t have to be nervous,” Wei Zilin’s light voice was tinged with some humor. “You’re Lin Chu’s friend. I am too. So, in a way, we’re mutual friends.”
How in the world would Xu Moyan dare to nod to that statement? How thick-skinned would she need to be to agree with that?
“I don’t want my presence to make a friend feel uncomfortable as I’ll feel bad too.” Wei Zilin added. This time, there was a hint of guilt in his voice.
This voice was definitely Xu Moyan’s undoing. She shook her head vigorously and replied in a flustered voice, “No, definitely not. It’s just me.”
“What about you?” Wei Zilin asked gently before setting his gaze on her.
Xu Moyan became speechless. “…”
She scratched her head in a dilemma. “I’m just too nervous. I’ll deal with that as best I can.”
Wei Zilin’s gentle laughter traveled into her ears once again. As if she was suddenly experiencing an epiphany, Xu Moyan realized how nice it was to be able to meet with her idol and hear his voice all the time. It was a luxury that other fans were not afforded.
However, there was only so much she could take. She could not keep having her breath get taken away every time she heard her idol laughing like that.
As the saying goes, ‘It is hard to return a favor from a beautiful person!’
“You don’t have to worry about my identity, just treat it like a casual hangout between friends. There’s nothing to be nervous about since you don’t treat your friends this way. Even in front of Shen Zongyi, you’re not so scared that you don’t dare to utter a single word.” Wei Zilin tapped the steering wheel gently with his fingertip, highlighting his slender fingers. Like his voice, they were elegant and intricate.
Xu Moyan’s face burned as though she had a fever when she realized how obvious her behavior was. She found this to be really embarrassing.
“Alright.” She nodded intensely, looking as austere as a monk.
Unsurprisingly, she heard Wei Zilin’s laughter once again.
Xu Moyan could not help thinking that everything she did was amusing to him.
Similarly, Wei Zilin could not help thinking about how much he laughed or how amicable he felt when she was with him.
Xu Moyan finally mustered up the courage to raise her head to look at the road. Then, she recalled their previous plan and said, “Mister Wei, when we’re near to our place, we’ll pass by a supermarket. Can we make a stop there? I have to quickly grab some ingredients. Initially, I planned to buy some on the way back with Yuntong 1and make lunch.”
“Sure.” Wei Zilin gave a nod and paused before continuing, “Since we’ve reached an understanding that we’re friends, can you not call me something as distant as Mister Wei? You can just refer to me by my first name.”
Xu Moyan looked at him hesitantly.
Wei Zilin continued to focus on driving and did not allow himself to get distracted and look away. Even so, he could feel her gaze on him.
The corner of Wei Zilin’s lips curled up slightly. “Xu Moyan. I can call you that, right?”
“Ye… Yes.” Xu Moyan nodded obediently. Although she had not said his name out loud, the tip of her tongue had repeatedly twisted around the pronunciation of his name in silence.
Wei Zilin.
To her, the three words in his name 1 were very unfamiliar to her. This was not something she could easily get used to.
Upon reaching a red light, he stopped the car. Then, Wei Zilin turned around and looked at her with a smile, as though he was expecting an answer from her.
Xu Moyan had a slightly confused expression since she did not feel like there was anything else to say.
“I’ve called you by your name. Shouldn’t you try to call me by my name too?” Wei Zilin smiled patiently.
It was not that Xu Moyan had never said his name out loud before. In her conversation with Zheng Yuntong over the past few days, many of their topics had surrounded Wei Zilin, so his name had escaped her lips quite a number of times.
However, when facing Wei Zilin, she could not make herself utter his name.
It was at the tip of her tongue, yet she could not make herself say it out loud no matter how hard she tried. At that moment, those three syllables became foreign to her. The uneasiness of having to say her idol’s name out loud to his face made Xu Moyan’s heart palpitate rapidly.
Wei Zilin continued to wait quietly for her. He said nothing but his eyes remained fixed on her. Because of this, Xu Moyan found it impossible for her to hide away from his intense eyes, as though he would be extremely disappointed if she did not call out his name.
The last thing Xu Moyan wanted was to disappoint Wei Zilin.
Thus, she mustered up her courage and said, “Wei… Wei Zilin.”
Her breath was caught the moment those words escaped from her mouth, as though she had just completed her goal in life.
Wei Zilin let out a gentle chuckle, causing an elegant and beautiful melody to ring out. “Isn’t that nice?”
As he said this, the traffic light turned green, so Wei Zilin shifted his gaze back to focus toward driving. He drove with the corners of his lips still curled upward, and the smile on his face did not fade away until after a long while after.
He seemed to have made a discovery—every time he laughed, she would look like her soul had left her body and she would become extremely agreeable.
It seemed like she had zero immunity toward his laughter.
Meanwhile, Xu Moyan shifted her gaze away and turned to look outside the window as she smiled silently to herself.
…
When they reached the supermarket, Wei Zilin turned the car into the indoor parking lot.
At the same time, Shen Zongyi continued onward without any intention of turning into the supermarket.
“They’re headed into the supermarket.” Zhen Yuntong reminded him.
“I know. Two people is enough for a trip to the supermarket.” Shen Zongyi explained. “We’ll head back first.”
Looking at Zheng Yuntong’s confused expression, Shen Zongyi continued, “We’re giving your friend an opportunity.”
Zheng Yuntong looked at him in shock. “What opportunity? What did you find out?”
“…” Shen Zongyi threw her a scornful glance.
There was no way Zheng Yuntong could keep pretending to be clueless as she already felt like she was the epitome of stupidity in Shen Zongyi’s eyes. At this rate, it would not be long until he would think of her as a retard.
“You saw through it, huh?” Zheng Yuntong asked in a weak voice.
Shen Zongyi gave her a simple “mmhmm”. Suddenly, Zheng Yuntong jumped and said, “If you noticed it, then I wonder if President Wei noticed it too.”
Shen Zongyi thought it was inappropriate to admit that he did and simply replied, “He didn’t. But that’s just my hunch.”
Zheng Yuntong believed him and breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good, then. Don’t go around telling President Wei about it.”
“Now why would I do that?” Shen Zongyi replied indifferently.
…
Xu Moyan got down from the car without realizing that Shen Zongyi and Zheng Yuntong had npt followed them in. She even planned to wait for them.
However, Wei Zilin took out his phone and glanced at it before putting it back into his coat pocket. Then, he said, “Let’s go. Shen Zongyi said they’re heading home first.”
Xu Moyan was slightly taken aback. After she replied a simple “oh”, she followed Wei Zilin into the supermarket looking as though she was still unable to process what was going on right now.
After everything that had happened, they were actually going into the supermarket together?!
Xu Moyan wanted nothing more than to find a hidden place for her to leap in joy and release her excitement to her heart’s content.
