Chapter 335: The Amnesia Trope Really Is a Cure-All
Shen Lu was truly flabbergasted. She couldn’t understand how the owner of Jiaoyao Garden had the nerve to say something like that.
‘Who runs a business by having to carry everyone else along with them?’
‘She wasn’t the president of the Commerce Association. All she had to do was manage her own affairs.’
‘The guy was probably still holding a grudge because she hadn’t saved him any face and had thrown him out directly last time.’
‘Talk about being petty.’
‘Besides, wasn’t he the one who started running his mouth first?’
Shen Lu scoffed, deciding not to reply to anyone’s messages. She set her account so that no one could add her.
How could she possibly lend out the military armored vehicle that Fu Cheng had gone to so much trouble to get for her?
It was a no-brainer. What did other people’s business success have to do with her?
‘If their businesses took off, it’s not like they’d give her a cut of the profits.’
[DING! 520/520 three-star reviews have been received. Mission complete. Reward: 1000 reputation value.]
Hearing the reward notification, Shen Lu’s small bit of unhappiness instantly vanished.
Shen Lu said, “Tongzi, you guys really can grant wishes!”
‘It was a little on the low side, though.’
But Shen Lu was already very satisfied. It would have taken her a whole month to save up 1000 reputation value on her own!
[( ̄▽ ̄)~*]
[Happy birthday, Host~]
Tongzi didn’t say it outright, but its thoughtful intentions were clear in the reward.
If the system had a physical body, Shen Lu would have given it a big hug and patted it firmly on the back a few times.
Wang Daguo drove back at around two in the afternoon.
He came back alone; Xin Yu had gone home.
“Everything go okay? No major problems, I hope?” Shen Lu asked.
“It was fine, but some people tried to take advantage of the situation and falsely claim the deliveries.” Wang Daguo scratched the back of his head. “Good thing Xin Yu was with me. He’s quicker on his feet than I am, so we didn’t make any mistakes.”
“Then you two should partner up for deliveries next time, too. You can look out for each other.”
“Alright.” Wang Daguo paused, then brought up something else. “Boss, on my way back, a bunch of people wanted to hitch a ride, but I didn’t let any of them on.”
“Of course you couldn’t let them on. Our vehicle is for making deliveries. Under normal circumstances, it’s not to be used for anything else.”
Shen Lu preferred to have vehicles for dedicated purposes. She didn’t like one vehicle taking on too many tasks, as it could easily lead to chaos.
Shen Lu only planned to use this military armored vehicle for picking up produce and making deliveries. Unless it was an emergency, it would stay put outside the backyard wall.
After discussing these matters, Shen Lu told Wang Daguo to hurry up and eat lunch, as everyone else had already eaten.
Shen Lu sat behind the front counter and opened the mini-program’s backend to do some maintenance. It was the first day of the trial run, so a lot of bugs were bound to pop up. Now was a good time to fix them.
“Boss Shen, I think you should have let Wang Daguo agree to help those people.” Sang Yue seemed to appear out of nowhere. She stood outside the front counter, her large, earnest eyes fixed on Shen Lu.
Shen Lu clicked her tongue. “Miss Sang, do you have any idea how much a liter of gasoline costs right now?”
“I saw on the news that it’s 39 Star Coins a liter.”
“This military armored vehicle uses two liters of fuel per kilometer. I’m running a small business; I can’t afford to be that charitable.”
“But couldn’t you have them pay for it? I just think that harmony brings wealth, and being kind to others could make your restaurant’s business even better.”
Shen Lu felt a headache coming on. ‘Isn’t she overstepping? She’s only been working here for a day and she’s already questioning my business methods?’
“You eat a meal one bite at a time, and you build a business one step at a time.”
At this point, Sang Yue knew she couldn’t convince Shen Lu.
She bit her lip and left, looking a little disappointed.
Shen Lu didn’t let Sang Yue ruin her good mood, because Bai Wanwan had sent her a huge red envelope with ten thousand Star Coins, and Bai Lei had also been generous, sending her 5,000 Star Coins.
Bai Wanwan: Sorry, I can’t make it to your birthday party.
Shen Lu: It’s okay. Take good care of your family, and more importantly, take care of yourself. We’ll get together again after everything has passed.
Bai Lei: Boss Shen, happy birthday.
Shen Lu: Thanks~
Bai Lei: Seeing as I’m being so sincere, can I order specific dishes next time I come to your restaurant?
Shen Lu: Depends on your luck.
‘Her shop’s defense rating was almost max level. Once it was maxed out, she would immediately open up the booth seating and start offering à la carte service.’
A little while later, Bai Wanwan started spamming her with messages.
Bai Wanwan: I haven’t been on Dou Dou all day. I just found out you actually started offering delivery?!
Bai Wanwan: Damn it, you didn’t even tell me in advance!
Bai Wanwan: Why is the entire menu grayed out when I click on it???
Bai Wanwan: Why is the delivery range so small?
Bai Wanwan: Shen Lu! Do you even know how to run a business?
Bai Wanwan: Say something! Answer me!
A drop of cold sweat trickled down Shen Lu’s forehead. ‘What was there to say? Of course the Upper City District wasn’t in the delivery range. It was so far away, the cost of fuel alone would make her lose money like an idiot.’
‘Only someone like Zhao Qian could afford to be that extravagant without a care in the world.’
Shen Lu: It’s too far. I have to consider the costs…
Bai Wanwan: Then I’ll have my driver come to your restaurant for pickup. Damn it, didn’t you say you’d never do delivery before?
Shen Lu: There’s no business during a strong sandstorm. I was forced into it.
Shen Lu: You have a car that can travel in this weather?
Bai Wanwan pouted unhappily. Her family indeed didn’t have one. When the weather was bad, she would stay at the hospital.
In the afternoon, Shen Lu didn’t assign any more work to her employees. They gathered around the stove to brew tea and watch a movie in the fast-food area, just like last time.
The Deng sisters, Ying and Xuan, didn’t join them. Deng Xuan was still unconscious, and Deng Ying was too worried to leave her, staying in the dorm to take care of her.
Sang Yue glanced several times at the earthenware pot and tangerines on the charcoal fire, a strange feeling rising in her heart.
“Boss Shen, where did you learn all this?” she finally asked, unable to hold back her curiosity.
Shen Lu answered casually, “It’s on Dou Dou. You don’t have a Light Brain, do you, Miss Sang?”
Sang Yue nodded. Jiang Gong had offered to give her one, but she hadn’t accepted.
‘A Light Brain was too expensive; it wouldn’t be right for her to accept it.’
She was planning to figure out a way to buy one for herself after a while.
“Miss Sang, where are you from?” Shen Lu asked suddenly.
Sang Yue paused for a moment. “I don’t know either. I was in the desert when I woke up. I don’t remember anything from before.”
This was, of course, a lie.
But Sang Yue couldn’t tell anyone that she was from another planet in a parallel universe. The only welcome she would receive would be dissection or being raised in captivity for research.
‘The amnesia trope really is a cure-all,’ Shen Lu mused internally.
She reflected on this silently, not pressing the matter further, as if it had just been a casual question.
The movie they watched this afternoon was a comedy, but Shen Lu didn’t really get the humor. Ultimately, it came down to cultural differences.
So, as she watched, she started secretly scrolling through Dou Dou. Before long, she dozed off.
Sang Yue, who was from the same place as Shen Lu, didn’t get the jokes either. She forced herself to watch for a while but found it too boring, so she got up and went back to her dorm.
She didn’t go back to her own room, however. Instead, she knocked on the door of Room 3.
