Chapter 306: Luck
Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Luck
Fortunately, Shen Lu had bought plenty of saline solution when she stocked up on medical supplies, so they weren’t about to run out.
Cai Su carefully cleaned the blood from Xiao Lang’s nose. Meanwhile, Fu Cheng pressed his index finger to the center of Xiao Lang’s forehead and sent a sliver of spiritual power into him.
Many newly awakened Superpower Users, thrilled by their new abilities, would often recklessly push themselves beyond their limits.
If Xiao Lang had been born into a prominent family, he would have had dedicated tutors to watch over him, teaching him what to do and what not to do. Even if he acted impulsively, there would have been people to handle the consequences.
Unfortunately, Xiao Lang came from a humble background, and Xue Can himself was self-taught. He didn’t know how to properly guide a fledgling, which led to this situation.
Fu Cheng had just omitted a few facts. While it was common for new Superpower Users to overuse their powers, most would just faint. They wouldn’t start bleeding.
For Xiao Lang to be in this state, he had clearly pushed himself far beyond his limits. His Spiritual Sea had likely gone into a rampage.
But fortunately, Fu Cheng was just able to bring Xiao Lang’s spiritual rampage under control.
Sometimes, it just came down to luck.
If Xiao Lang’s Superpower Level had been any higher, or if Shen Lu had abandoned Fu Cheng to his fate in the past, Xiao Lang’s end would have been tragic. Even if he survived, he would have been left an imbecile, unable to care for himself.
Half an hour later, Fu Cheng withdrew his finger.
He had to help Xiao Lang control his rampaging Spiritual Sea without overexerting his own superpower. The half-hour ordeal had drained nearly all of Fu Cheng’s mental fortitude. He closed his eyes in exhaustion, his lips a shade paler than before.
"Give him some water. He’ll be fine after a good rest."
"Thank you, thank you so much." Cai Su was crying with relief, thanking Fu Cheng profusely.
Too tired to speak, Fu Cheng simply nodded.
Cai Su carried her son into the bedroom. Shen Lu pressed her lips together, then redeemed a bottle of milk from the System Mall. She put a straw in it and pressed it to Fu Cheng’s lips.
"Drink up."
Fu Cheng didn’t refuse. He desperately needed something to replenish his energy.
He drank the entire bottle of milk while Shen Lu held it for him. The tightness in his mind eased considerably.
"Open up."
Without hesitation, Fu Cheng obediently opened his mouth, and Shen Lu fed him a grain bar.
As he finished the bar, he accidentally bit down on her soft fingertip.
The two teeth that made contact tingled, and he instantly stopped chewing. Shen Lu seized the opportunity to pull her hand away.
"If it was going to take this much out of you, you could have had Wu Jun or Huo Qian do it." Shen Lu wasn’t blaming him, but seeing him in this state left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Fu Cheng had recovered slightly. "They couldn’t have done it."
Wu Jun is an Earth Ability User and Huo Qian is a Water Ability User. Neither could have stopped Xiao Lang’s Spiritual Sea from rampaging.
Shen Lu glanced toward the bedroom where Cai Su and her son were, then started pushing Fu Cheng’s wheelchair out. "So, was the situation just now very dangerous?"
"Yes."
’Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come down myself. I would have just notified you.’
’The main issue was the weather. It’s too severe to take Xiao Lang to a hospital.’
Shen Lu pushed him back to the spare bedroom on the second floor. "Do you feel unwell anywhere else?"
He still looked pale.
"I have a headache." Fu Cheng hadn’t planned on saying anything, but he suddenly found himself craving Shen Lu’s concern.
’He knew she was done with her tasks for the day and had some free time. He wanted her to stay with him a little longer.’
Shen Lu didn’t overthink it. "Is it your Spiritual Sea? Is there anything that helps? Should you eat something?"
’Aren’t the ingredients from the mall supposed to soothe and heal the Spiritual Sea?’ Shen Lu opened the System Mall and began searching for a suitable food item.
"’It’s not enough,’ Fu Cheng said softly, a hint of a plea in his voice that neither of them consciously registered. ’Could you massage my temples?’"
"Okay, I can do that."
Shen Lu moved behind him, her cool fingers gently resting on his temples as she began to massage them.
"Is this pressure okay?"
"Perfect."
Fu Cheng took a deep breath, relaxing even further into the back of his chair.
’In reality, her massaging his temples had no direct effect on his Spiritual Sea.’
’But the headache was real, and the fact that it miraculously subsided under her touch was also real.’
’Fu Cheng couldn’t understand why, but his intuition told him the most important thing was to simply enjoy this moment.’
After ten minutes, Fu Cheng, worried she might be getting tired, told her to stop.
"Does it not hurt anymore?" Shen Lu asked.
"’It doesn’t hurt anymore,’ Fu Cheng lied. The moment she moved her fingers away, a dull ache returned to his temples."
"That’s good. But you still look pale. Do you want to lie down for a bit?"
"Okay. I might need a little help."
Shen Lu paused, not suspecting he was faking, but simply double-checking his condition.
"Fu Cheng, are you sure you don’t need to go to a hospital?"
Fu Cheng paused for a moment. "I don’t. I’m just a little drained."
Shen Lu wrapped her arm around his waist, and together they managed to get Fu Cheng settled back onto the bed.
She tucked him in, poured a glass of warm water and set it on the nightstand. A glance at the clock told her it was already past five. She had to go downstairs to make dinner.
With two people out of commission, Shen Lu decided to make a lighter dinner.
She simmered a pot of congee with century egg and lean pork, steamed some shrimp and egg custard—Fu Cheng’s favorite—made sweet and sour pork ribs that all kids loved, and stir-fried a couple of vegetable dishes. That should be enough.
For those who preferred stronger flavors, there was no shortage of things to eat with their rice. The shop had plenty of small pickled side dishes; she just had to bring some out.
At the shop’s entrance, Wang Daguo was putting on his gear piece by piece—clothes, helmet, and all. Finally, he tied a large stone to his waist and prepared to charge outside.
Xin Yu grabbed his arm. "Wang Daguo, wait for me! I’m leaving with you."
Wang Daguo’s voice came out muffled from inside his helmet. "Are you trying to get yourself killed? You got lucky this morning. The wind is even stronger now. You’ll never make it home. The second I let go of you, you’ll be blown away."
"’You said it yourself, I was lucky. Maybe my luck tonight will be even better than this morning,’ Xin Yu said with a grin. ’Just take me part of the way. Dropping me off near your place is good enough.’"
"’You’re completely nuts.’ Wang Daguo shook off his hand. Catching sight of Shen Lu out of the corner of his eye, he called out, ’Boss, talk some sense into this idiot! He’s still trying to go home!’"
Shen Lu frowned. "Xin Yu, didn’t we say you were staying in the dorm tonight?"
"Boss, I... I have to go back."
Shen Lu set the dishes on the table and walked over to him. "Fine. Give me one good reason why you have to go back. Otherwise, you’re staying put."
Xin Yu scratched the back of his head. "Boss, can I not say?"
"’You can,’ she said. ’In that case, don’t bring up going home again. Come help serve the food.’"
Xin Yu pouted and followed dejectedly behind Shen Lu to help with the dishes.
"’You let Wang Daguo go home, so why can’t I?’ Xin Yu muttered, disgruntled."
"What does Wang Daguo weigh, and what do you weigh? Are you even half his size? Besides, his house is just a few steps away. Even if he’s slow, he’ll be home within the hour. Before the sandstorm, it took you an hour and a half to walk from home to the shop, right?"
Shen Lu shot him an exasperated glare. ’He was in his late twenties but still acted like a child every day.’
