No one dislikes a compliment, and she was no exception.
"You worked hard for it, too." Shen Lu set up the small table. "I didn’t make steamed egg with clams tonight."
Hearing this, Fu Cheng felt a little disappointed.
If Shen Lu hadn’t said yesterday that she would make him steamed egg with clams again, he wouldn’t have been so expectant.
Still, he wouldn’t blame her for not making it. He was just a tad disappointed.
"I made steamed egg with shrimp instead. This is delicious, too."
Shen Lu placed the food tray on the small table. Fu Cheng’s eyes were immediately drawn to the bright yellow steamed egg. The tender, smooth surface was dotted with several pinkish-orange shrimp, a sprinkle of fragrant green onions, and a few drops of soy sauce for seasoning.
Fu Cheng’s sunken spirits instantly soared. His right eye was fixed on Shen Lu, filled with an indescribable joy.
"If conditions allow, I’d like to change up the menu every day." Shen Lu sat down on the edge of the bed. "I made sure to chop tonight’s dishes extra fine, so it’ll be easy to eat with a spoon."
Tonight’s menu was steamed egg with shrimp, stir-fried minced pork with sour long beans, and spinach egg drop soup. The spinach was chopped very finely, making it easy to scoop up.
A faint smile touched Fu Cheng’s lips as he picked up his spoon and started to eat.
For a moment, the only sound in the room was the tireless drone of the television broadcast.
Because she was cooking for one of her own, Shen Lu used only ingredients from the shop—fresh vegetables and meat. Combined with her perfect cooking, it was hard for the food not to be delicious.
As the two were eating, Fu Cheng’s Light Brain suddenly vibrated.
Shen Lu pointed to his wrist. "You’ve got a call."
Outwardly, Fu Cheng showed nothing, but in his mind, he had already beaten the person who dared to interrupt his meal to a pulp.
Fu Cheng answered the call. It was Li Zexing.
"I’ve sent you the list. You can handle the rest yourself."
Without waiting for Fu Cheng’s reply, he hung up.

Fu Cheng continued to slowly eat his steamed egg with shrimp while sending Shen Lu a message. ’He probably hasn’t been beaten up by his brother in a long time.’

Shen Lu waved her hand dismissively. "It’s fine. Just having a list has already saved me a lot of trouble."
Fu Cheng did well today. Except for the soup, which Shen Lu fed to him, he ate the rest of the meal by himself.
When Shen Lu went downstairs to put away the dishes, Cai Su approached her to share what she had decided.
"Boss, Xiao Lang and I talked it over. Do you think we could trouble Ye Fan or Lin Zhou? They’re Superpower Users and handle security for our restaurant. If they just keep a close eye on Xiao Lang, it should be fine, right?"
It was Xiao Lang who had come up with the idea. If he hadn’t mentioned it, Cai Su would have completely forgotten about the two security guards who basically only showed up at mealtimes.
Shen Lu thought it was a good idea too and immediately sent a message to Ye Fan to tell him about it.

Lei Li let out a seductive huff. Before anyone could see how she moved, she had already lunged at Xue Can.
Xue Can instinctively summoned his Fire Needles, but a second later, Lei Li had tackled him onto the sofa.
The Fire Needles let out a SIZZLE as they sparked, but they couldn’t pierce Lei Li’s skin.
"Save it, Xue Can. Your Fire Needles can’t hurt me." Lei Li draped herself over Xue Can’s shoulders, pressing her cheek against his chest. Her movements were ambiguous, her tone intimate. "Not unless you use lethal force. But then again, I’d gladly die by your hand."
Everyone present simultaneously averted their eyes with pained expressions, though they couldn’t resist sneaking frantic glances out of the corners of their eyes.
It was no secret that Lei Li was in love with Xue Can. Everyone in both Mercenary Corps knew.
For the most part, the members of the Gale Mercenary Corps were supportive of the idea.
If Xue Can were to actually marry Lei Li, the two Mercenary Corps would merge. They would become the number one Mercenary Corps in the entire Imperial City, with a bright future ahead of them.
Unfortunately, Xue Can refused, no matter what.
Many corps members lamented this and were more than willing to take Xue Can’s place in the "marriage alliance." Alas, Lei Li was hopelessly devoted to Xue Can and wouldn’t spare anyone else a second glance.

Lei Li crossed her legs, folding her arms across her chest. "I’m not sad."

"I was just thinking how manly he looks when he’s angry." Lei Li licked the corner of her lips. "I just love the cool, aloof types who play hard to get!"
