Chapter 568 - A Pink Villa – 1
Chapter 568: A Pink Villa – 1
In the meantime, at the coast of Myanmar.
After Ye Jiu and the people from the International Crime Unit came out of a hotel, the 4th division brought him to the coast area.
He followed their instruction and got on a boat. Nobody knew why, but perhaps he did not have a good sleep last night, there were dark circles around his eyes.
Both captains were waiting for him by the shore.
The captain of the 4th division opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but not sure if he should say it out or not. In the end, he decided to voice out his concern as he said, “If we want to recruit Fu Zhi, wouldn’t she be not happy with it if she learns that we take Ye Jiu away for an in vivo research?”
“I think it should be fine,” the captain of the 5th division answered as he lit up a cigarette. The mask on the man’s face glinted coldly in the smoke as the last sunray shone on it before it was covered up by the rising clouds.
“Everything in this world has a price to pay. It’s exactly because they have failed multiple times that a successful specimen like Fu Zhi could be born. Besides, which experiments don’t require sacrifices? Fu Zhi is a smart person, and she should know better than we do that Ye Jiu is nothing but a failed product purchased by a buyer. What we’re doing now is just recycling someone else’s unwanted trash to get the most value out of it.”
The captain of the 4th division still looked worried.
He might not be that apprehensive if he hadn’t seen how Fu Zhi beat Matthew up, but right now, he had no idea why but he did not have a good feeling about this mission.
The members of the International Crime Unit were moving the medical equipment and medicines.
Suddenly, just when the captain of the 5th division took a look at his watch, a black kitten fell from the sky and swooshed past both of them. It claws flashed out as it charged towards the ship.
Ye Jiu took a step to the side and avoided the kitten’s attack by a hair width.
The kitten mewled after it missed its target as it stared at Ye Jiu with its pair of golden eyes. In the next second, its gold eyes shot out from their sockets towards Ye Jiu’s heart.
“Watch out!” The captain of the 4th division shouted.
Before Ye Jiu could do anything, he felt a strong tug from his back.
A fair, thin arm grabbed Ye Jiu by his collar and pulled him backward.
The incoming person was wearing black spandex. Her face was covered with a golden mask marked with the Country M’s royal crest, and only her beautiful blue eyes and bright red lips could be seen.
She pinned Ye Jiu on the mask of the ship by grabbing his neck and began sizing him up.
“So the second generation failed subject of China DNA splicing technology can’t even handle a mechanical cat?” She said, her eyes filled with compassion.
Ye Jiu could taste blood in his throat. He tried his best to break himself free from the woman’s clutches but to no avail.
The woman admired his struggle for a moment, and she only let him go after the captain of the 4th division arrived.
“You’re worried that I would kill him?”
The captain of the 4th division stared at the woman in front of him warily. “We agreed to work with Country M’s royal family on in vivo research for one requirement. That’s you guys must not harm Ye Jiu or do something against his will.”
“You’ve misunderstood,” the woman said as she picked the mechanical cat up from the ground. “I was born for love and peace. My fathers who created me has set up a program inside of me. I’m not allowed to harm humans, and Ye Jiu, with everything considered, is still a human.”
Ye Jiu’s pupil constricted. He jerked his head up and stared at the woman in disbelief.
He seemed as if he was digesting what she was trying to say.
“You’ve been genetically modified, right?” He asked.
The woman looked at Ye Jiu pitifully. “Everything that is born from genetic modification and DNA splicing technology is just a technically flawed thing developed by backward countries. That’s why your organs are failing. I’m different from you. My fathers and my country have endowed me with perfection in the true sense of the word. I embodied all of the hard work and resource packages from every genius in Country M. My life will not end, and I am a being closest to God.”
Resource package and endless life. It sounds tempting, but it’s not really human.
Compared to Ye Jiu, the two captains were not shocked as if they already knew about the woman’s existence a long time ago.
“Do you have any other questions? If no…” The woman put the kitten on the ground and turned around to the Country M’s personnel behind her, “Get all the medical equipment and operating table ready. The operation will start in another 30 minutes.”
After that, she jumped out of the ship and disappeared from everyone’s vision.
“Are you alright?” The captain of the 4th division approached Ye Jiu. When he saw the welt around Ye Jiu’s neck, he asked, “Do you need to apply some ointment?”
Ye Jiu lifted his hand to grab his neck and shook his head. He looked in the direction where the woman disappeared and asked, “Is she the android created by Country M’s royal family?”
The captain of the 4th division fell silent for a moment before nodding.
He shouldn’t tell Ye Jiu about this, for this was a secret mission that even the captain of the 1st division did not know about.
It was just that Ye Jiu was going to die soon.
Therefore, he said, “As early as when we started our research on the first generation of genetically modified humans, Country M has begun to prepare the development of android. It’s just that due to the underdevelopment of science and technology at that time, they have been running into a blank wall. It’s only last year that they made a breakthrough, and Aurora was born.”
Country M’s research was as difficult as their research. It was just that Country M’s research was more time-consuming and they only managed to make an advancement last year.
However, they did not have much information about this woman. All they knew was that she was claimed to be even more perfect than Fu Zhi and the others. She was born to fight for her country, and she was an existence that most closely resembled the Western gods.
When the captain of the 4th division was carrying out a mission in Country M last year, he had seen with his own eyes how terrifying the fighting power of the woman who had been fitted with a fighting resource package was.
She had gone beyond what belongs to the human perception of power.
The captain of the 4th division felt it was not fair for Country M to compare this woman to Fu Zhi.
After all, no matter how strong Fu Zhi was, there was no way she could defeat an android that resembled a biological weapon.
Besides, Fu Zhi was already 17 years old this year.
The reason she could learn something faster than other people and she had superior strength was due to the genes she got from her parents.
However, the genetic makeup of a human could not be changed anymore. It was different from the android developed by Country M’s royal family.
An android was a robot. In other words, they could update it along with the development of technology, and for each update, Aurora would become even stronger.
Initially, the gap between Fu Zhi and Aurora might not be big, but time could prove that Country M’s research on android was more sophisticated and advanced than the research in their country.
Even the mechanical cat in Aurora’s hands was terrifying!
The captain of the 4th division told Ye Jiu, “We were originally supposed to be met by the royal family’s butler and the leading experts from Country M’s research team. I didn’t expect Aurora to come in person, and I certainly didn’t expect... her to want to operate on the boat...”
In truth, it made no difference where the operation took place.
Perhaps Country M’s people wanted to avoid complications. They had their own considerations.
They were worried that Ye Jiu might slip away on the journey and refuse to cooperate with the research.
Ultimately, while Aurora pitied China’s supposedly inferior DNA-splicing technology, Country M’s experts could still recognize the enormous scientific significance of that research.
“Honestly,” the captain of the 4th division said, “if I were you, I wouldn’t be noble enough to help them conduct research on a living subject.”
Ye Jiu slowly straightened. His expression was indifferent as he said softly, “It’s different for me. I have a younger sister.”
The captain of the 4th division paused.
“When she was three, Fu Zhao brought her to the villa. She was tiny and in poor health. She didn’t even reach my knees. Fu Zhao told me she was my younger sister. I didn’t like her much. Before she came, I’d kept a rabbit. It wasn’t very healthy either, and after six months, it died.
“At first, I thought she would be like that rabbit and wouldn’t stay with me long. When Ye San and the others held her, I never did. She thought I disliked her. She would crouch alone outside my bedroom door and secretly watch me for ages, then run back to her room and cry.”
A sea breeze swept across the yacht, carrying a fine drizzle and a faint dampness.
Afraid he might never have another chance to say these things, he felt an urge to talk.
“On her birthday, Fu Zhao bought her a pink doll set, the kind with a castle. She loved it. I saw how carefully she reached out to touch the dolls inside. But the next morning, when I opened my door, the castle and dolls were sitting outside it. She was doing everything she could to win me over. I remember thinking that if I ever had money, I’d buy a pink villa and keep her there. I could look after her like Fu Zhao’s flowers, give her plenty of water and fertilizer, and maybe she would live a long time.”
The captain of the 4th division was moved. “What happened then?”
“I pulled up every rose in Fu Zhao’s flower bed, dug a hole, and planted her in it. I watered her, loosened the soil, and even added fertilizer. She seemed a little upset and uncomfortable, but she was afraid I’d get angry, so she stayed there all day. In the end, the one who needed the family doctor to prepare medicine and provide emergency treatment that night was me. Fu Zhao had beaten me half to death.”
The captain of the 4th division chuckled.
Ye Jiu smiled too. “When I was little, I was really afraid she would die. After all, the very first time I saw her, she was still in the nursery, just a tiny little bundle. All the experts said she was in critical condition. But later I thought, everyone dies eventually. At first, I raised her like my rabbit. I’d tie cords around her neck and wrist and take her out to play. Later, I came to see her as my sister. And then, like some twist in a tragic drama, I turned out to be the one who wouldn’t live much past twenty.
“But that’s all right. She has plenty of older brothers. I don’t really think of this as a sacrifice. Once the research on the human body produces results, there will still be someone in this world to take my place and love her.”
The captain of the 4th division fell silent for a moment, then could not help asking, “Have you ever thought that she might not be able to live without you?”
“I did when I was little. But really, it’s not that she can’t live without me. It’s that I can’t live without her.”
Ye Jiu’s eyes stung.
He had only one younger sister.
That sickly rabbit had never survived the winter. Fortunately, Fu Zhi had.
He had no regrets.
It was just hard to let go.
When they were little, it had always been his sister who stepped forward to hug him and care for him.
This time, he wanted to do something too. Like a proper older brother, he wanted to leave something behind for her.
Even if it cost him his life.
The captain of the 4th division said nothing more, regret in his expression.
He had no younger sister and could not fully understand those feelings.
But he knew the defiance that ran deep in Ye Jiu’s bones. The International Crime Unit’s equipment had detected his antisocial personality. Rebellious to the core, he should have been the last person to sacrifice himself for someone else.
Yet for Fu Zhi, he was willing to stake his life on giving others a one-percent chance of survival.
—
Meanwhile, on Xiangyun Street.
Nearly twenty-four hours had passed since Ye Jiu left Yuanshi Villa.
Fu Zhi’s heart suddenly began pounding, and a terrible foreboding seized her.
Her intuition had always been accurate. For no apparent reason, she felt agitated. Every call she made went unanswered.
Fu Yuan noticed her mood and asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Holding her phone, Fu Zhi walked toward Wang Rao. “Can you find out where the International Crime Unit is? I can’t get in touch with my brother.”
“Give me a moment. I’ll have their location traced.”
Fu Yuan called the staff working behind the scenes.
They were highly efficient. “International waters. The International Crime Unit’s people are heading into international waters.”
Fu Zhi had Wang Rao get out and took the driver’s seat herself.
“Ye Jiu has a tracking chip implanted in his body. I don’t have my computer. See if you can help me track his location.”
As Fu Yuan issued the instruction, he watched Fu Zhi speed toward the coast and asked, “You think Ye Jiu is with the International Crime Unit?”
“It’s not just a feeling.”
The emotion sweeping through Fu Zhi was so intense that it left her deeply restless.
Just then, Wang Rao’s phone chimed. He opened the message. “Miss Fu, a delivery for you has arrived at Yuanshi Villa. Ye Jiu is listed as the sender.”
Fu Zhi’s fingers paused.
At that same moment, the call to Ye Jiu, which she had kept trying with one hand, finally connected.
She pulled the car over to the roadside.
Looking down at the blue-lit screen, she saw the coastline behind him.
Dark clouds crowded the sky. He smiled at her.
“I bought you a pink castle.”
He said, “There are dolls, a rose garden, and those pink plush toys I like. It’s big, and the scenery is beautiful. There’s room for lots of people you love.”
“What about you?”
