Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
However, it was no ordinary arrow. In the instant it broke, it suddenly exploded, releasing a swarm of poisoned needles. In that split second, Xuanyuan Qi swiftly swung his longsword, using the blade like a shield to block every single needle that came flying toward them.
From behind came a crisp, bell-like laugh belonging to a woman. “Hehehe... Remarkable... Truly remarkable…”
That voice…
It belonged to Yue Liuyi, the only female general under Gongsun Yu’s command, famed for her mastery of concealed weapons and formation tactics.
She was the same age as Gu Jiao, sixteen this year.
No one had expected her to pledge loyalty to Gongsun Yu’s camp so soon.
She was of Turkic descent, possessing a pair of beautiful light-brown eyes, with striking features that radiated both elegance and the pure vivacity of a young maiden.
Dressed in a flowing pink outfit, with a slender waist and graceful figure, she moved like a spirit of the flowers fluttering through the misty forest.
She sat astride a beautiful white steed, both horse and rider so aesthetically pleasing that they seemed utterly out of place amidst the blood-soaked chaos of the battlefield.
“Young Miss Yue!” a Jin soldier exclaimed in recognition.
At this time, Yue Liuyi was not yet an official general of the imperial court, but merely a highly skilled expert recruited into Gongsun Yu’s residence.
But just because she wasn't formally a general yet didn’t mean no one else was.
A burly man on a tall, powerful horse charged toward them, his rough voice bellowing, “Little Liuyi, this is a battlefield for real men. You’d better stand aside, lest you get hurt. If His Lordship blames me, I’ll be the one in trouble!”
Yue Liuyi replied with utter nonchalance, “Hah, His Lordship would blame you, not me. Why should I care what happens to you?”
Another Jin soldier cried out with excitement, “General Zhu! It’s Great General Zhu!”
Indeed, the man was none other than Zhu Zhangkuang, the fierce warrior under Gongsun Yu, known across the land as the Iron Palm.
His military rank far surpassed that of General Di, and his arrival instantly revitalized the morale of the Jin army.
Yue Liuyi beamed at one of the trio and said with a playful grin, “The fat one! Yes, you! You’ve been struck by my poisoned dart. Without the antidote, you’ll be dead within half an hour!”
Tang Yueshan exploded in fury. “Fat?! The hell you say, I’m built! Built like a yak, dammit!”
With the arrival of Zhu Zhangkuang and Yue Liuyi, the Jin army surged with renewed vigor and charged forward, surrounding Gu Jiao and her companions in an impenetrable formation.
If things continued like this, the three of them would surely be worn down and killed...
Xuanyuan Qi glanced toward the road ahead. At the far end of the official route stood a mountain pass. Once they broke through it, they would be able to see the towers of Quyang City.
“No more fighting. Go full speed. Escape.” He said calmly but firmly.
“Got it!” Gu Jiao nodded. “Big Boss!”
The Black Wind King sprinted forward with a speed it had never achieved in its life. Countless swords and blades slashed at its body along the way, yet the beast didn’t hesitate for a moment, charging ahead with Gu Jiao straight toward the pass.
Zhu Zhangkuang led his men in hot pursuit, while Yue Liuyi bombarded them with her concealed weapons from a distance.
Xuanyuan Qi’s horse was struck by one of Yue Liuyi’s poisoned darts, the venom rapidly spread to its internal organs, and the steed could no longer run.
Gu Jiao extended her hand toward Xuanyuan Qi. “Get on!”
Xuanyuan Qi reached toward her, but not to take her hand. Instead, he pressed his palm against the Black Wind King, unleashing a surge of internal force that propelled both the horse and Gu Jiao forward like an arrow from a bow!
Gu Jiao’s brows furrowed tightly as she looked back at him. “Xuanyuan Qi!”
Xuanyuan Qi then delivered another powerful palm strike, this time sending Tang Yueshan and his horse flying after them.
This wasn’t because he had lost his mount. From the very moment he had ordered the charge toward the pass, he had already made up his mind.
His life was nearly at its end, and he still didn’t know what his true purpose was.
He often wondered if he would ever live long enough to find out.
Yue Liuyi scoffed in disdain. “Humph! You think you alone can stop my Jin army of ten thousand? What a joke!”
She leapt into the air, her weapon, a folded war fan, slashing sideways in a deadly arc toward Xuanyuan Qi!
A spray of silver needles burst forth like petals in the wind, flying straight at Xuanyuan Qi. But his figure flickered and vanished from Yue Liuyi’s sight in the blink of an eye.
“What incredible speed!” Yue Liuyi’s expression changed instantly as a chill ran down her spine. She spun around to defend, but she was a step too late, as Xuanyuan Qi’s sword had already pierced her right wrist!
“Aaah!” A searing pain erupted from her wrist as blood gushed out. Her folded fan slipped from her fingers and dropped to the ground. Her face turned pale with shock and pain.
“Picking on a young girl, what kind of hero are you? If you’ve got guts, fight me!” Zhu Zhangkuang roared as he struck out with a fierce palm toward Xuanyuan Qi!
With a single mighty palm strike, he actually forced Xuanyuan Qi to retreat several steps backward.
Zhu Zhangkuang gave a snort of triumph and called out arrogantly, “This general does not kill nameless nobodies! Who are you? State your name!”
Xuanyuan Qi’s eyes were as cold as ice as he responded, “Vermin like you are not worthy to know my name!”
Though he appeared to be pushed back, it was actually a feint. This distance was precisely what he needed to unleash his Ghost Mountain sword energy at full force.
In the next moment, Xuanyuan Qi struck with his sword, sending Zhu Zhangkuang flying and crashing heavily to the ground, where he immediately coughed up a mouthful of blood!
Yue Liuyi snarled viciously, “Attack together!”
Zhu Zhangkuang barked an order, “What are you all standing there for? Kill him! Whoever breaks through that pass today will be rewarded with a thousand taels of gold!”
With such a heavy reward on the line, bold warriors stepped forward without hesitation; the Jin troops surged like a tidal wave toward the mountain pass.
But Xuanyuan Qi, wielding his three-foot longsword with unshakable dominance, stood firm at the entrance of the pass, holding the line with the strength of one man, repelling thousands with the might of an army!
Meanwhile, the poison in Tang Yueshan’s body was spreading rapidly. He lay slumped over his horse, vomiting blood uncontrollably, his strength completely sapped, unable to fight any longer.
Behind them, the sounds of brutal combat echoed closer.
But the Black Wind King didn’t look back. It had exhausted every ounce of its strength, charging forward heedless of life or death.
Gu Jiao gripped the reins tightly and shouted desperately, “Xuanyuan Qi… hold on… the Black Wind Cavalry is almost here…”
“Jin troops approaching!” A lookout on the city tower cried out, spotting distant figures racing toward the city gate. “Wait. Something’s not right!”
“Open the gate!” Gu Jiao shouted with all her strength.
The general guarding the east gate that day was General Ji. He recognized her voice instantly. “Commander Xiao! Commander Xiao has returned! Open the gate at once!”
“Black Wind Cavalry——” Gu Jiao shouted again.
What had happened?
Why was the Black Wind Cavalry being summoned so suddenly?
Could it be that——
“General Ji! Look there!” one of the guards pointed toward the distant pass. It didn’t align directly with the city tower, it required a sharp turn to the right.
The mountain obscured most of the Jin army from view, and also blocked sight of Xuanyuan Qi, but the number of enemy soldiers behind the mountain was visibly decreasing.
They were charging into the pass, but none of them were coming back out. It was as if… the pass itself had devoured them all.
General Ji said, “Notify the Black Wind Cavalry to engage!”
One guard hesitated. “But only the reserve battalion of the Black Wind Cavalry is available for combat now…”
General Ji replied firmly, “They weren’t sent to the reserves because they were weak. Certain missions require people of resolve to carry them out. Never underestimate any soldier.”
“Yes, sir!”
Two hundred meters… one hundred and fifty meters… one hundred meters…
I’m almost at the city…

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
