The white cloth wrapped around the red-tasseled spear was torn away by Gu Jiao, fluttering into the wind with a flick of her hand.
The spearhead gleamed with a chilling radiance under the blazing sun, while the braided red tassel at its base resembled the fresh blood from an enemy’s heart, so vividly crimson that it was shocking to the eyes.
Nangong Ze’s sword came slashing down directly onto Gu Jiao’s red-tasseled spear, producing a crisp and clear clash. His sword was a treasured blade forged from black iron, incomparably sharp and capable of slicing through anything in its path.
Let alone a mere red-tasseled spear, even an entire chunk of raw iron could be cleaved apart by him.
Yet to Nangong Ze’s astonishment, that hideously ugly red-tasseled spear remained entirely unscathed.
Had it actually withstood his sword?
No, more accurately, had this brat managed to withstand his killing strike?
He had exerted an immense amount of both qinggong and internal force to execute this move. He had seen Gu Jiao draw her spear to block, yet he had not cared—because he had absolute confidence that he could sever Gu Jiao’s red-tasseled spear and carve a ruthless slash across her body in the same motion.
Suspended in midair above Gu Jiao’s head, Nangong Ze pressed his longsword downward with all his strength.
Gu Jiao gazed at him calmly, her expression unruffled. Then, without warning, she leaned back sharply and swung her left leg up with force, delivering a fierce kick straight toward Nangong Ze’s head!
Nangong Ze, holding his sword in his right hand and locked in a standoff with Gu Jiao, could only raise his left hand to block. However, the position was extremely awkward, and since his left hand was not his dominant hand, his strength was insufficient. As a result, he was sent flying by Gu Jiao’s powerful kick!
He barely avoided crashing under the hooves of the Black Wind Cavalry horses. Fortunately, he managed to stabilize himself in time, his longsword striking the ground as he leveraged it to flip and regain his footing amidst the chaos.
The left arm that had taken Gu Jiao’s kick was now faintly numb.
This boy’s strength… is terrifying!
And that red-tasseled spear in his hand—what exactly is it?
Why did it seem… somewhat familiar?
"Where did you get your red-tasseled spear?" Nangong Ze asked coldly.
As he spoke, a Nangong Family soldier was struck down by the hoof of a Black Wind Cavalry horse. Seeing that he was about to be impaled through the throat by the cavalryman’s spear, he swung his sword in a backhanded slash toward the Black Wind Cavalry soldier!
Clang!
Gu Jiao’s red-tasseled spear intercepted his longsword.
The cavalryman was momentarily startled but remained unaffected in his movements, as if they had coordinated this maneuver countless times before. With Gu Jiao’s cover, he thrust his spear forward, piercing the Nangong rebel soldier’s throat in one clean motion.
There was no need to talk about how they were all from the State of Yan—rebels were rebels, and exterminating them was the sworn duty of every Black Wind Cavalry soldier!
Unlike Gu Jiao, Nangong Ze had no particular regard for the lives of his men. If they died, so be it. There were always more soldiers to replace them!
However, this only deepened his curiosity about Gu Jiao.
So young, yet how could he possess such extraordinary talent?
Gu Jiao had no intention of wasting words with Nangong Ze. The man had already recognized that the armor she wore was forged from Xuanyuan Li’s battle armor, yet he had failed to realize that the red-tasseled spear in her hand was Xuanyuan Li’s divine weapon.
His martial prowess was lacking, and his eyesight was just as useless.
What a waste of all those years spent as a spy in the Xuanyuan army!
Gu Jiao stepped onto the stirrup, leaping into the air with an agile flip onto horseback. As her body twisted midair, she gathered immense force and swung her spear down heavily toward Nangong Ze!
Nangong Ze’s pupils constricted!
Xuanyuan’s Seven Strikes!
This was… the spear technique of the Xuanyuan Family!
The weapon in this boy’s hands… was Xuanyuan Li’s red-tasseled spear!
How could this be…?
"Who exactly are you?!"
He swung his sword upward to block the descending red-tasseled spear, gripping the hilt with one hand while bracing the blade with the other. Channeling every ounce of his internal force, he barely managed to withstand the boy’s attack.
But Gu Jiao followed up instantly with a second strike, as swift as lightning.
With a crisp snap, a sharp cracking sound rang out—
Nangong Ze’s black iron treasured sword… had been cleaved in two by the boy’s red-tasseled spear!
His eyes widened in disbelief!
Yet Gu Jiao gave him no time to catch his breath, thrusting forward with the next spear strike at blistering speed!
Behind her, Cheng Fugui, in an attempt to save his comrade, was forced off his horse by a Nangong Family rebel. The enemy’s sword slashed down on his left shoulder.
"Damn you!"
He spun around and drove his spear straight through the rebel’s body!
As soon as that rebel fell, more swarmed forward.
"Kill their horses!" Someone among the rebels suddenly shouted. In an instant, all their attacks changed direction. They no longer engaged the cavalry head-on but instead slashed at the Black Wind Cavalry’s mounts.
The Xuanyuan warhorses were the fiercest and most formidable steeds across the six states. Their training instilled in them a deep sense of loyalty to their riders, making them indifferent to their own safety.
As long as their riders did not call for a halt, they would fight endlessly, never retreating in the face of blades, never faltering despite their wounds.
Watching one Black Wind Cavalry horse after another fall heavily to the ground, gravely injured, Cheng Fugui's eyes burned red with fury. "Bastards! You dare kill our mounts? Come and trade your lives for it!"
War was never an individual’s battleground. Everywhere, men fought, and at any moment, someone could be wounded or fall. The Black Wind Cavalry was at a crushing numerical disadvantage. Any small victory gained through massive sacrifices or equal losses was, in truth, a defeat.
Gu Jiao had to end this battle quickly!
Having lost his weapon, Nangong Ze vaulted onto a horse and seized a spear from a Black Wind Cavalry soldier.
Gu Jiao swiftly struck it aside. At the same time, the Black Wind King reared on its hind legs, exuding an overwhelming aura of menace, and rammed forcefully into Nangong Ze’s mount!
Terrified, Nangong Ze's horse reared up in panic before bolting in fear. Nangong Ze let out a furious curse as he was thrown off the saddle, rolling across the battlefield. By sheer luck, his gaze landed on a long sword lying nearby.
His eyes gleamed, and he hurriedly reached for it—only for Gu Jiao’s spear to stab down, pinning his hand ruthlessly to the dust-laden ground!
Gu Jiao declared coldly, "I said it before—the first battle must see blood."
Let the blood of traitors be the offering for the fallen souls of the Xuanyuan Family!
With a firm grip on her red-tasseled spear, Gu Jiao pressed it down even harder!
"Ahhh—!"
A piercing, agonized scream tore from Nangong Ze’s throat!
The red-tasseled spear, having tasted the blood of a traitor, seemed to gleam even brighter.
A surge of unrelenting battle spirit spread across the battlefield, igniting the morale of the Black Wind Cavalry to an all-time high.
Gu Jiao yanked her spear free and sent Nangong Ze crashing into unconsciousness with a fierce kick!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
