“Wait a moment!” In a flash of inspiration, Wang Xu suddenly had an idea. He raised a hand to signal both of them to stop. “I just remembered something. When I was teaching the Eldest Imperial Grandson martial arts at the imperial mausoleum, he once tried to curry favor with me so he could do fewer horse stances. To bribe me, he told me a secret about Your Majesty.”
Both the real and fake Emperor turned their heads toward Wang Xu in perfect unison.
Wang Xu let out a slightly awkward cough. Forcing himself to continue, he braced himself and said, “His Majesty has… a hairy mole on his right buttock!”
Pfft—!
Somewhere in the crowd, someone failed to hold back a laugh.
Immediately, all eyes turned toward the person.
It was one of the Wang Family’s archers.
Within a second, the archer’s expression switched to one of absolute seriousness. His bow was drawn to its full extent, taut and unwavering, as if he had never been the one to laugh in the first place.
The Emperor clenched his fists tightly, his teeth grinding together in fury, the corner of his mouth twitching violently.
Shangguan Qing, Zhen is going to beat you to death!
A flicker of panic flashed across the fake Emperor’s eyes. Back when they discussed this, no one had mentioned that he needed to disguise himself to ‘that’ extent.
What now? Was he supposed to grow a hairy mole on his butt?
Han shi frowned slightly.
Despite being husband and wife with the Emperor for so many years, the lamps were always extinguished when they shared the bed, and she had never paid close attention to such a detail.
But seriously, what kind of brat was Shangguan Qing that he could just blurt out something like that so casually?!
This was a miscalculation!
Han shi, of course, understood Wang Xu’s character. He was honest and straightforward to a fault. There was absolutely no way he would make up something like this out of thin air.
So it was real. The Emperor’s rear area really did have… that kind of thing.
Han shi closed her eyes for a brief moment.
Stay calm. I must stay calm. There has to be a way to turn this situation around.
When she opened her eyes again, her gaze fell upon Wang Xu’s slightly awkward expression. Letting out a soft, mocking laugh, she said, “Lord Wang, when you were teaching the Eldest Imperial Grandson at the imperial mausoleum, he was still just a child. Children tend to speak nonsense; how could you possibly take his words seriously?”
Han shi had originally wanted to say, I have been the Emperor’s wife for so many years; would I not know whether he has such a mole on his body?
But if she said that, Wang Xu would undoubtedly insist on summoning the other imperial consorts and concubines to verify the claim.
After all, just because she had never noticed it didn’t mean the others hadn’t. If, by some unfortunate chance, one of them confirmed Wang Xu’s words, then the fake Emperor would be completely exposed.
Thus, her only option was to insist that Shangguan Qing had been just a child, talking nonsense!
With a half-smiling, half-skeptical expression, Han shi said, “Lord Wang, could it be that you’re actually working with them? Are you deliberately using this ridiculous claim to prove that His Majesty is a fake Emperor?”
Wang Xu responded with utmost seriousness, “I am not working with anyone! My loyalty is to His Majesty alone!”
Han shi let out a cold laugh and said, “But His Majesty’s body clearly does not have what you claim! And I may as well tell you this, that Crown Prince is a fake! First, they impersonated the Crown Prince, and now they have found someone with a similar appearance to impersonate the Emperor as well! You must not let yourself be deceived by them!”
Gu Chengfeng bristled with anger and snapped, “Hey! The only reason I pretended to be the Crown Prince was to infiltrate the imperial palace and take you down! You old witch, you’re the one pulling tricks and swapping real for fake, yet you have the audacity to play the victim first!”
Han shi said, “Lord Wang, you heard him—he just admitted it! The words of the Eldest Imperial Grandson are unreliable, so you’d best hurry and arrest these rebels before they cause more trouble!”
Wang Xu’s expression grew increasingly complicated.
Gu Chengfeng, hearing the ominous sound of his own impending doom, felt a chill run down his spine.
It was over.
Wang Xu was about to fall for that old witch’s lies.
“If the words of the Eldest Imperial Grandson are unreliable, then what about mine?”
Just then, a deep, refined voice, both noble and smooth, rang out as a strikingly handsome man, dressed in a flowing silver robe, strode forward with confidence and authority.
Han shi’s expression changed instantly.
How could it be him?
The newcomer was none other than the Emperor’s own younger brother, the Little County Princess’s very own father—Lord Yanshan!
This invisible war, fought without smoke or fire, had both sides struggling to keep up. If the Emperor, in a moment of impulsiveness, had momentarily forgotten Wang Xu, then Han shi had likewise, in a brief lapse of attention, overlooked Lord Yanshan.
She had been too preoccupied with guarding against Shangguan Yan, Shangguan Qing, and the Imperial Advisor's Hall.
As for why, it was partly due to her own negligence, and partly because Lord Yanshan was rarely in Shengdu. Even when he was, his presence was exceedingly low-key.
Though he was favored by the Emperor, he had chosen to build his residence in the outer city. Was there ever such a reclusive and free-spirited imperial prince?
A flicker of panic swept through Han shi’s heart.
The situation was beginning to slip beyond her control.
If she had been able to successfully frame Shangguan Yan for colluding with the Imperial Advisor's Hall due to her carefully arranged witness testimonies, then what about Lord Yanshan?
He was innocent.
Even if she were to open her mouth now and accuse Lord Yanshan of being in league with Shangguan Yan and her son, Lord Yanshan could just as easily turn around and accuse her and the Crown Prince of harboring ulterior motives.
Lord Yanshan had always been indifferent to power and fame, never involving himself in court disputes, yet he was deeply trusted by the Emperor. Precisely because of this, his words often carried even greater weight.
No, don’t panic…
Lord Yanshan had no evidence. At worst, this would end in both sides holding their ground with conflicting claims.
There was still a chance to turn the tables.
Han shi shot a glance at the fake Emperor. The fake Emperor understood her meaning and immediately put on an expression of pleasant surprise, exhaling in visible relief. "Chen'er, you’ve returned at just the right time!"
"You dare call him 'Chen'er'?" The Emperor shot the fake Emperor a cold glare before turning his gaze lightly to Lord Yanshan. "You brat, surely you wouldn’t fail to recognize your own brother?"
"Well..." Lord Yanshan scratched his head.
Although he was already past thirty, in the eyes of many, Lord Yanshan still carried an air of immaturity. Otherwise, he wouldn't constantly abandon his daughter to wander off on his own.
He let out an awkward chuckle. "You two look exactly the same, your voices and mannerisms are alike as well. It’s genuinely difficult to tell the difference. But Wang Xu did mention a mole..."
The fake Emperor, unruffled, responded, "Chen'er, you might not be aware, but a few years ago, Zhen was injured, coincidentally right in that very spot. The mole is long gone."
His words were meticulously crafted. Wang Xu’s account of Shangguan Qing mentioning the mole had been from several years ago. Since that time had long passed, it made sense that things might have changed.
The fake Emperor’s supposed injury had occurred years ago. Given the Imperial Advisor's Hall’s top-tier restorative medicines, it was hardly difficult for a wound to heal so cleanly that no trace remained.
As for when Lord Yanshan had last seen the mole, that would have been before he moved out of the imperial palace to build his own residence. Since then, he hadn’t lived in the palace for over a decade.
The fake Emperor sighed. "Because of the location of the wound, Zhen ordered the imperial physicians to remain silent about it. If you don’t believe Zhen, Chen'er, you may summon Physician Liang."
That Physician Liang was one of Han shi’s people—he would undoubtedly provide false testimony!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
