The Emperor was sitting in front of Shangguan Yan’s bed at this moment. The Little County Princess had already gone off with Little Jing Kong to cause trouble for Little Eleven, leaving the room with only three people: the Emperor, Shangguan Yan, who was lying with her eyes closed pretending to be unconscious, and Xiao Heng, who stayed quietly by her side.

One was unconscious, and the other was not expected to live much longer... Neither of them were outsiders.

The Emperor’s face darkened as he asked, “What’s going on, why the panic?”

“It’s... it’s...” Zhang Dequan hesitated, unable to speak the words.

The Emperor spoke in a deep voice, “You are pardoned. Speak!”

“Yes!” Zhang Dequan finally steeled himself and explained the whole situation.

It turned out that today, the Sixth Prince had been flying a kite in the imperial palace. As he was flying it, the kite’s string snapped and the kite flew into Imperial Noble Consort Han’s palace chambers.

The Sixth Prince went to retrieve his kite.

Being an imperial prince, of course, he couldn’t just stand outside, so he entered and paid his respects to Imperial Noble Consort Han.

Later, while searching for the kite, the palace servants unexpectedly found something strange among the flowers.

The Sixth Prince, being young and curious, ran over and had the servants dig it up.

To their shock, it turned out to be a small figurine pierced all over with silver needles!

From the scene, it appeared that the figurine had been buried underground, but the heavy rains of the past few days had washed away the soil, causing the figurine to be exposed.

A figurine pierced with needles…

A dangerous glint flickered in the Emperor's eyes as he commanded, "Return to the imperial palace!"

Xiao Heng stood up, looking at the Emperor with concern, “Imperial grandfather, I’ll go with you to the palace to take a look.”

The Emperor thought for a moment and did not refuse.

“Take care of the Little County Princess.” The Emperor left Zhang Dequan behind and headed back to the imperial palace with Xiao Heng.

The matter had caused quite a stir, and the area had already been cordoned off by Imperial Consort Wang and her people. Although Imperial Noble Consort Han held the phoenix seal and was in charge of the inner palace, this incident was crucial to her future, so Imperial Consort Wang had directly called for the people from the Commandery Office.

The Commandery Office was the most special office in the outer court, directly under the Emperor’s command. Though they were not allowed to enter the inner palace casually, if the Emperor’s safety was threatened, they could enter first and report later.

When the Emperor arrived at the scene, some of the imperial concubines had also gathered to watch the scene unfold.

Xiao Heng did not bow to these imperial concubines. Whether Shangguan Yan was the Crown Princess or not, he was now the only Eldest Imperial Grandson of Empress Xuanyuan, and aside from the Emperor and Empress, he need not bow to anyone.

“Where is it?” The Emperor asked.

Imperial Consort Wang gave Grannie Liu a glance, “Grannie, present it to His Majesty.”

“Understood.” Grannie Liu respectfully held a handkerchief with both hands, upon which the small figurine dug out from the flowers was placed.

The Sixth Prince, frightened, clung to Imperial Consort Wang’s embrace. He couldn’t understand how a simple kite search had turned into such a big incident.

His imperial father didn’t look happy at all.

“Imperial consort mother, I’m scared.” He whispered.

“Don’t be afraid.” Imperial Consort Wang comforted him, gently stroking his head.

But in her heart, she thought to herself that thankfully, she had chosen Shangguan Yan. The Sixth Prince was too timid; he would never be able to bear great responsibility.

Of course, she didn’t despise the Sixth Prince either, since she had no son of her own. Having a well-behaved Sixth Prince around wasn’t so bad.

Xiao Heng took the small figurine directly.

“Your Highness!” Grannie Liu exclaimed in shock.

The Emperor also furrowed his brows. “Don’t touch such ominous things.”

“It’s fine.” Xiao Heng said nonchalantly.

“Eh?” He seemed to casually flip the figurine over, and on the back of the cloth, there was a line of writing. With a puzzled look, he asked, “Imperial grandfather, isn’t this your birth date and time?”

The Emperor had of course seen it.

His face darkened to the utmost, “Where was it found? Who discovered it?”

Grannie Liu pointed to the nearby patch of grass, which had been cordoned off by people sent by Imperial Consort Wang, and respectfully said, “It was discovered there! The Sixth Prince’s kite fell over there, and Zhang En, who was with the Sixth Prince, along with Little Sheng from Guoyi Palace, went to look for the kite. They were the ones who found it together.”

One was Imperial Consort Wang’s person, and the other was Imperial Noble Consort Han’s.

There was no possibility of anyone framing someone else at the scene.

The Emperor coldly looked at Imperial Noble Consort Han, “Imperial noble consort, what else do you have to say?”

Imperial Noble Consort Han, who had been limping ever since Little Jing Kong stepped on her foot a few days ago and still hadn’t recovered, staggered her way in front of the Emperor. She knelt and bowed, saying, “Your Majesty, this consort is innocent, I didn’t know anything about this! Your Majesty!”

Xiao Heng didn’t rush to interrupt.

He had great faith in his grandfather’s ability to piece things together in his mind. He knew that his grandfather’s deductions would be far more brilliant than anything he could say.

The Emperor’s gaze was cold as he stared at her, “Are you implying that someone infiltrated your palace quarters and framed you for practicing forbidden arts?”

Imperial Noble Consort Han gritted her teeth and glanced at Imperial Consort Wang standing nearby, “It must be!”

Imperial Consort Wang raised her hand to shield the Sixth Prince, who was trembling in fear and clinging to her, and calmly said, “Imperial Noble Consort Han, why are you looking at me and the Sixth Prince like that? Are you implying that it was this consort who framed you?”

Imperial Noble Consort Han sneered coldly, “What a coincidence that the Sixth Prince’s kite happened to land near my palace gates! And what a further coincidence that its string broke right in my garden!”

Imperial Consort Wang maintained her calm demeanor, showing no sign of guilt, “Who doesn’t know that your Guoyi Palace is heavily guarded? Even if this consort wanted to, I wouldn’t have the ability! Imperial Noble Consort Han, I advise you to admit your guilt quickly. With so many people in your palace, surely not everyone is tough as steel. In the end, they will be able to extract the truth. Rather than suffer in the dungeons, it’s better to confess now. Perhaps His Majesty will show mercy and deal with you lightly.”

As she spoke, the Emperor’s gaze casually swept over the room, and he noticed a trembling figure hiding behind others.

The Emperor raised his hand and pointed, “Bring him to me!”

The guards from the Commandery Office stepped forward, pulling out a eunuch.

The eunuch knelt on the ground, trembling uncontrollably.

The sight of his fearful trembling made it hard for anyone to believe he wasn’t guilty.

“Speak the truth!” The Emperor commanded sternly.

“Yes... yes... it was this servant who buried it...” The eunuch stammered, “It... it was the imperial noble consort... she threatened this servant with my family... This servant... this servant didn’t dare to refuse...”

Imperial Noble Consort Han’s face turned pale with rage. She knelt on the ground, straightened her back, and pointed at the eunuch with her hand holding a handkerchief, “Feng Yousheng! This imperial consort has treated you well! Why are you slandering me?”

The eunuch, named Feng Yousheng, repeatedly kowtowed to her, crying out, “Your Highness, please spare my family... I beg you... this servant is willing to die to atone for my sins! Please spare my family!”

Before Imperial Noble Consort Han could respond, he suddenly stood up and threw himself headfirst into the rocks of the artificial mountain, ending his life.

Of course, he had to die. Otherwise, once he was taken to the dungeons and tortured, he would reveal everything about Imperial Consort Wang, which would be disastrous.

Imperial Consort Wang couldn’t hide her disappointment as she said, “Imperial Noble Consort Han, after all these years with the Emperor, do you really hold a grudge against him for deposing the Crown Prince, and now you resort to forbidden arts to curse him? Imperial Noble Consort Han, your heart is too cruel!”

Xiao Heng: These women of the harem really know how to act.

Speaking of which, among all the figurines they distributed, was Imperial Consort Wang’s the only one to succeed?

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
