Chapter 243: Can I?
Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Can I?
Witnessing this scene, most of the crowd marveled at the tacit understanding between the two. However, there was one person who was filled with bitterness, feeling increasingly that his physical limitations were restricting his performance. If it weren’t for his condition, he could have charged out to fight alongside Xu Qingsui. Shen Yan silently faded into the crowd, his eyes filled with disappointment as he watched the two of them.
With their seamless cooperation, the Shadow Mermaids were quickly taken down. The chaos finally came to an end. Even so, significant damage had already been done. Shen Yan finally emerged from the crowd and began instructing others to clear the battlefield.
Xu Qingsui noticed the shift in Shen Yan’s demeanor and walked straight over to him. "I can help you shield your spirit body now!"
Since Xu Qingsui had mentioned this to him before, Shen Yan understood exactly what she meant without needing any further explanation. His previous disappointment was instantly replaced by hope. He looked at Xu Qingsui, his eyes sparkling. "Then help me quickly!"
After what had just happened, Shen Yan had been suppressing intense emotions. Now that he heard it was possible, he didn’t want to wait a single minute longer.
Understanding his urgency, Xu Qingsui nodded. "I can, but shouldn’t you take control of the situation here first?" She pointed at the surrounding chaos.
Shen Yan glanced around, hesitated for a moment, and immediately called over a few subordinates. "Take some men and handle the cleanup here. I have something to take care of. If there’s anything you can’t resolve, come find me."
The subordinates received their orders and went to carry them out. Shen Yan turned back to Xu Qingsui, urging her to help fix his condition. Xu Qingsui said nothing more and followed him away.
Lu Jingyu, who had been keeping an eye on the two of them, immediately followed behind. He didn’t want to give them a chance to be alone together, and he also had something he wanted to ask Xu Qingsui.
Seeing Lu Jingyu approaching, displeasure immediately flashed in Shen Yan’s eyes. "Captain Lu, your people have taken over District 27 now. Given the current situation, shouldn’t your men be doing something?"
"Don’t worry, they’ll bring people to help clear the battlefield. I’ll accompany the two of you; perhaps I can be of some help." Lu Jingyu made it sound pleasant, but Shen Yan didn’t believe a word of it. He knew that Lu Jingyu simply didn’t want him to be alone with Xu Qingsui.
Annoyed, Shen Yan was about to say something else, but Xu Qingsui spoke up first. "Just let him come with us! When I’m dealing with the issue inside your body, it’ll be good to have someone keeping watch, just in case something goes wrong."
Since Xu Qingsui had put it that way, Shen Yan naturally couldn’t object anymore. He lowered his head in frustration, while Lu Jingyu held his head high like a victorious rooster.
The three of them soon found a nearby place. Xu Qingsui asked Lu Jingyu to stand guard outside; she absolutely could not be disturbed while helping Shen Yan resolve his issue. Lu Jingyu nodded, though he looked at Xu Qingsui as if he had something to say but was hesitating. Noticing this, Xu Qingsui figured he still wanted to ask her about what had happened. Since her secret had already been exposed anyway, it was impossible to keep hiding it. She decided to fix Shen Yan’s problem first and confess to him afterward.
She immediately entered the room and began treating Shen Yan. When Xu Qingsui’s spirit body entered Shen Yan’s Sea of Consciousness, she began constructing a barrier using her Spiritual Power. With the help of this barrier, Shen Yan would no longer succumb to frenzy so easily.
The improvement in her abilities this time had indeed exceeded her expectations. Something her abilities were previously insufficient to accomplish was now effortlessly easy to do. She could see the barrier being constructed bit by bit before him.
Shen Yan’s spirit body hadn’t appeared initially, but when she was halfway through building the barrier, the Flying Dragon showed up as well. It hid behind the barrier, watching Xu Qingsui. Although it didn’t know what Shen Yan was doing, it knew Xu Qingsui wouldn’t hurt it. The two gazed at each other through the barrier as it was fully established between them.
She had originally thought her abilities were more than enough to complete this task with ease. However, once it was over, Xu Qingsui realized that she had expended a great deal of her Spiritual Power. It seemed her strength was still somewhat lacking, and her desire to improve herself grew even stronger.
Xu Qingsui then withdrew her spirit body and returned to reality. Sensing the change, Shen Yan slowly opened his eyes.
"Am I fine now?" He was a bit surprised; things had gone much smoother than he had imagined. He couldn’t help but worry—was it really that simple?
Xu Qingsui nodded. "There shouldn’t be any issues. You can test it out first."
Still half-doubtful, Shen Yan tried to channel the power within his body, and soon his eyes lit up. It actually worked! In the past, the moment he channeled his power, the Frenzy Factor would surge out. This time, there was no reaction whatsoever. This meant that in future battles, he would be able to charge in and fight without holding back.
"It really succeeded! Qing Sui, from now on, I can finally fight without any reservations, and I can protect you too."
"You don’t need to trouble yourself with protecting Qing Sui. As long as I’m here, I’ll take good care of her." Lu Jingyu, who was outside, had already heard their voices and knew the treatment was a success. Hearing Shen Yan’s words, he barged right into the room.
Shen Yan frowned, ready to charge forward and fight Lu Jingyu.
Seeing the two of them at each other’s throats, Xu Qingsui hastily intervened. "Shen Yan, you can fight freely now, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely immune to frenzy. If your condition deteriorates and the Frenzy Factor reaches its peak, it can still break through the barrier and cause a frenzy."
Shen Yan paused for a moment but nodded gratefully. "I’m already very satisfied just reaching this point. It just means I’ll go into a frenzy if I lose control, exactly like anyone else. In my eyes, this means I’m back to normal."
Shen Yan was quite open-minded about it. Xu Qingsui nodded, preparing to come clean to both of them and address the questions Lu Jingyu had been holding back. But right at that moment, Lu Jingyu beat her to the punch.
"Qing Sui, if you can shield his spirit body for him, could you do the same for me? Would that lower my chances of going into a frenzy in the future?"
Xu Qingsui froze. So this was what Lu Jingyu had been keeping to himself all along? She couldn’t help but chuckle.
"I really don’t recommend doing that. Shen Yan needed it because of his physical limitations, but you’re perfectly normal.
"Especially with regular spiritual guidance, your spirit body will naturally become increasingly stable. There’s no need to take extra measures.
"Otherwise, it might actually hinder your development."
Taking her advice to heart, Lu Jingyu nodded and abandoned the idea.
